Overwhelmed with the Ordinary

Current Mood: tired

And that's Pirate Day for ya.

I'm supposed to be at PT in half an hour, but I cancelled it. Last night I found myself really hungry and I made a bit of spaghetti with a very tasty jarred sauce.

Except my stomach isn't very fond of tomato sauces these days. I kinda forgot that. Reflux/heartburn ALL night. I've not even eaten anything yet today, I feel so blah - partly from the burning, partly because I didn't get much sleep, waking up all night...

Last night Roy and I went to Katie's Back To School night. Met all her teachers, learned all the expectations, found out her Language Arts teacher is also one of her PE teachers, lol, and found that she hasn't turned in a few things.

Harrumph. Well, now. She knows I will talk to each and every teacher every day to find out homework, if that's what it takes.

In Social Science, we looked in vain for her personal timeline - I know she'd worked on it because I'd seen it, but it got "lost" somewhere. And in Algebra 1, she's at a C+ right now - got stymied by something early on, and this is only based off two assignments, so we're not too worried. But we reassured her that we and her teacher are here to HELP and to please not struggle through something alone. *whew* this parenting gig is hard.

Katie is off to do the Race for the Cure with my mom on Sunday, joining my sister's work team, like we did last year. I opted out this year; so much else going on that one more thing was going to break me.

Tomorrow is the 60th birthday party for my mom - damn, I need to wrap up that Mariners jacket we got her...

I've got that horrible stomach clenching feeling - too many deadlines, not enough brainpower or time.

Time to eat something and start in on work. I have a piece of art to go get framed too. Probably this afternoon.

Turned on Turner Classic Movies. The Fastest Guitar Alive. Roy ORBISON! OMG.

Took my treasured art drawing to the framers'. @ 07:22 pm

Current Mood: enthralled
Current Music: Fly Like an Eagle - "I Love the 70's" on UrgeRadio cable

They still had the record for when they framed my Hutch drawing by Marion so they were able to repeat the same mat and moulding. Photos when I get it back.

[info]enednoviel, both ladies who were at the counter were extremely complimentary - said the art was very very good, they were impressed! Not a word was said about the subject matter, heh. Just quiet regard. Yay! Due back to me October 3, I believe they said.

I'm hoping it's saying something positive that I can show that drawing to my son and his reaction isn't "oh, mom, that's two GUYS", and instead only recognizes the artist who drew it.

And then he turned around and said he wanted a PINK hoodie from school. Uh....

My kids also adore a particular band that Marion turned me on to - Poets of the Fall. They particularly like "More":

You know it isn't particularly funny
Killjoy walks in just when it's turning sunny
Killjoy lives like it's all about the money
All about the money, all about the money
All about the money, all about the money

And lastly (maybe), here's a fic rec. [info]ancastar recced it last month on [info]crack_van, and this was my first chance to read it. Exactly the Contents of One. If you like, or have been curious about angsty!Hutch, this is a good story to read. It's not super long, and is broken up into nice snack-size sections.

And if you want a longer fic, one that will take you a nice afternoon of reading to get through, there's [info]racric's latest: All That Glitters. Case story, true feelings, lies, and sex, baby.
