Overwhelmed with the Ordinary

And cue the snow... @ 09:17 am

Current Mood: cold

Started just over an hour ago and there's probably half an inch already. Snow in Astoria - that's the Oregon Coast and the mouth of the Columbia River. Snow on the coast is unusual...USUALLY.

Jayne is out in it already, the other two are eating first and waiting for there to be more.

We're meant to see anywhere from one to six inches today. And the wind is blowing so it could be downright blizzardy.

The news crews are all out as they do when a single flake is even hinted at, but with all our hills and valleys, things can be very very different in just the distance of a few miles. I-5 Southbound at Barbur Blvd has a spinout and now cars are backed up more than a mile already. Getting them all going again will be the trick - yet another hill. We're full of hills, which is why we tend to close schools so quickly. No one wants to see a big yellow bus sliding down a hill towards kids waiting for it, or off into a ditch with kids on it, or other cars losing control when a group of kids are standing there. For us, it's far, far safer to close school than risk it. We simply don't get this weather enough to be super-skilled in driving it, and some folks from the warmer ends of the country who have moved here really show they have NO clue.

I was GONNA go shopping today, but I think mainlining Merlin episodes by the fire is a better way to go. :D

Boy, am I glad the furnace is working. And blessed that we have a house to be in during weather like this.
