CHARACTER THE BASICS NAME: Dorottya "Dora" Ilona Kováts NATIONALITY: Romanian AGE & BIRTHDAY: 16, July 10, 1992 YEAR: 6th Year PATH/MAJOR: Grey Path, Practical Studies WAND: 12 inch Oak with a phoenix feather core + Oak/Duir(D) represents power. The classic Dianic grove was composed of oaks. It was the residence of the heaven god who controlled thunder and lighting.The oak also stood for Diana and her lovers the kings of the wood. The oak has strong associations with weather magic. Moon of Strength security Bear moon, the Oak symbolizes positive purposes, magic for men, fidelity. Tree of endurance and triumph. APPEARANCE PB: Anna Lutoskin PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Dora is tall and thin, standing at 5'9 and weighing about 130lbs. She eats like a pig, but she also works out a lot and between quidditch and regular runs, she manages to stay in shape. She's athletic, but not in a bulky way and while she can be considered a bit of a tomboy because of her involvement in Quidditch, Dora can be just a girly as anyone else. She just chooses to focus on other things most of the time and can commonly be seen dressed casually. Her most striking features are her bright red hair, which hangs past her shoulder in natural waves (though sometimes when she is feeling ambitious, she will charm it either completely straight or extremely curly) and her bright blue eyes. She doesn't smile often and getting a genuine out of her is even more rare when it's not tied to some form of academic achievement. PERSONALITY LIKES: reading, quidditch, potions, learning new things DISLIKES: vegetables (she eats them because she has to, but she hates them), ignorance, inflexibility, laziness, impropriety QUIRKS: she is constantly playing with her hair and she also has a bit of an oral fixation, often chewing or sucking on some bit of candy or even the end of her quill when she is working. it seems like she always has to have something in her mouth. She also really likes the smell of Potion ingredients. A lot of people seem to think that's weird. SECRETS: » Dora has a secret curiosity about the Dark Arts. She's chosen the Grey path for her official studies, but she could easily be tempted to conduct her own studies in the darker areas. » She doesn't understand all the Muggle/Mudblood hate. She's intelligent and practical enough to keep this to herself, of course, but she sees no reason not to befriend one of them and she doesn't understand the offense of a wizard falling in love with a Muggle, etc. » She sucked her thumb until she was 5. It's completely embarrassing and her older brother has pictures to prove it. Thankfully, he's been kind enough to not actually show them to anyone. STRENGTHS: Potions, Anything that requires a lot of study and understanding of theory, Transfiguration WEAKNESSES: Simple wand work. Dora tends to overthink things and it leads her to occasionally mess up the simplest spells. Odd as it sounds, the more complex something is, the easier she finds it to master. She struggles at slowing her brain down long enough to master the mundane. DETAILED PERSONALITY: Dora is a practical, level-headed girl who is intensely responsible and rarely shows genuine emotion unless she's on the Quidditch Pitch. She flies with a passion that doesn't seem to be present in her every day life, though perhaps it is merely that no one has brought that passion out in her, yet or had occasion to witness it. The truth is that Dora merely keeps her emotions hidden. She was raised to believe showing emotion is showing weakness and this is something that has only been emphasized in her studies at Durmstrang. She is focused and determined and she knows that giving in to any doubts or feelings she might have, especially at the way things are around her school, would only get in the way. She's free on the Pitch, though. That is part of why Dora loves Quidditch so much. As a Chaser, she is free to give into passion and let herself genuinely enjoy something. The feeling of superiority and triumph when she scores is pretty amazing, too. Dora loves her older brother more than anyone else in this world. He's in his 8th year now and she does not know what she will do without him next year, but this is not something she has confided in anyone. She knows it would be unwise to project the image of a girl who is unable to take care of herself. HISTORY: While the home that Dora and Luk were raised in was stable, it could hardly be considered loving. Their parents were both largely unemotional creatures who pushed their children to value duty, honor and knowledge over all else and these were lessons Dora fully took to heart. From a young age, she learned that showing extreme happiness or sadness would not be looked kindly on and it was Luk she sought out as a small child when she needed any form of comfort or advice. While he was just as loyal to their family's teachings as she was, he was also her big brother and a much more reliable source of affection in the moments she needed it. Dora hated it when Luk went off to Durmstrang two full years before she did. He wrote her regular letters, however, about what an amazing school it was and with each one she grew more and more excited for her turn. She had never been a very patient child and her parents often had to scold her, telling her that it was useless to dream about something that was so far off. She reread each of his letters over and over in secret, though, growing more and more anxious for her first year. Being away at school with her brother proved better than she could have imagined. Dora quickly immersed herself in everything that Durmstrang had to offer. She begged and pleaded for a broom and was finally given one for her thirteenth birthday, partly a reward for her exemplary marks. She was in the air nearly every day after that, never neglecting her studies, of course, but eager to practice her flying. Dora soon discovered that passion was encouraged in Quidditch, making her favorite sport all the more attractive to her. She felt free in the air and her dedication to practicing soon made her an excellent player. She tried out for a spot on the team and she was ecstatic to be made Chaser. As much as she enjoyed playing just for fun, playing competitively this year has been another kind of rush. While she still schools her emotions off the Pitch, she feels free to give in to her excitement in the air. She has always been drawn to the darker arts, but it's more of a curiosity than anything else and when it came time for Dora to select a major, she decided that Grey Arts was the safer, more practical path. She's chosen to focus on Practical Studies, expecting to be a researcher once she finishes school, just as her parents expect of her. Dora is an intensely curious child, however, and she's taking every opportunity to learn things in other areas.
