Once Upon A Dream - Fictional Character Reincarnation

Have you ever dreamed you were someone else and it was so vivid that, for a moment, you were convinced you were that person. It couldn't be, of course. That person isn't even real and dreams are just dreams, right?

Or, maybe not.

A series of people, all around the world, are experiencing that very thing and, as it turns out, there's much more to it than it being just a dream. Those people are all reincarnations of fictional characters - imaginary people from literature, mythology, nursery rhymes, fairy tales, etc. They don't have conscious memories of their past lives, but, boy, do they dream about them. Some of them even have special abilities related to their former selves.

The dreams can be good or bad, but the one thing they all are is vivid. Those affected might feel like they're going crazy at first, at least until they begin to discover that there are more people like them, that these aren't just random, recurring dreams.

Salem Academy - An American Magical Boarding School

In 1693, the Salem Witch trials came to a gruesome conclusion with the arrest of over 150 people, 29 of whom were convicted, and at least 25 died. All had been accused of witchcraft. Most were hanged, some died in prison. Contrary to popular belief, none were actually burned. It was a sign to witches and wizards everywhere that the Muggle world was not prepared to deal with the presence of magic, of things they could neither control nor understand.

But Muggles knew nothing true, nothing real about witches. Few of the men and women killed had any magical ability at all, but it still served as a lesson. The true witches and wizards of pre-Revolutionary America retreated, hiding in the midst of those that had hunted them. Salem. Roanoke. Sleepy Hollow. All of them home to a hidden Wizarding culture. But the Salem witches and wizards were the ones who knew the best way to avoid a repetition of the past was to teach, to learn. So by the end of 1693, the Salem Academy of Magical Edification was founded, nestled and hidden within the Salem woods. Housing students from junior high up through high school, SAME followed in the footsteps of the magical schools that had come before it. Hogwarts. Beauxbatons. Durmstang. These schools already had long and successful careers. The founders of Salem Academy were determined to accomplish the same on the other side of the Atlantic.

Over four hundred years later, SAME is still matriculating. Some of its graduates in the past few decades left America to join the war in Europe, most to fight on the side of the Order of the Phoenix, and Dumbledore's Army. But most of the student body, and American witches and wizards in general, were left unscathed by war. Until now.

News of the war spread from country to country, and when the newest president of the United States was sworn in, the first thing he learned of was the existence of the American Bureau of Magic, and its leader, Daniel Burroughs. President Obama was clued into the biggest secret in American and world history: the presence of witches and wizards. But he isn't the only one who knows. There's a traitor in his cabinet, one who's uncovered information about the ABM and is spreading the word about magic to Muggles.

Right now, students at Salem Academy are still safe. No one has revealed the school's location, but that may be only a matter of time. The Muggles aren't happy, and history may repeat itself. And maybe this time, they will burn the witches.

Uber Alles - A Durmstrang Game

The Durmstrang Institute was created by German scholars for the magical instruction of Eastern European wizards sometime after the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was established. In its inception, Durmstrang accepted all promising students who had magical aptitude. However, the rise of the wizard Grindelwald and increasing tensions between the social classes resulted in the expulsion of any non-pureblooded students. Now, known Muggleborns and halfbloods are no longer accepted, and the school is known for pureblooded wizards, study of Dark Arts, rigid social classes, and tradition.

Students are ingrained with a sense of superiority or inferiority, a respect for tradition and appropriate social behavior, and most importantly, a strong desire to succeed. Failure is not a fate worse than death; failure often does lead to death. Students who fail are subject to ridicule, injury, and in some cases, even death -- Potions exams require students to drink their own products. Combative Magic classes pit student against student; duels can result in the weaker student being killed. If someone is badly injured or killed, it is simply because he or she was too weak; the school takes no blame.

Durmstrang students, however, are given an incredible measure of freedom. They are allowed to break curfew: if they stay up late to smoke with their friends, teachers won't say a word. It is however, the student's fault if they fail the next day's lesson. Responsibility is thrust even all students regardless of age; by sixth year, Durmstrang students should all be strong and knowledgeable enough to be fully functional individuals.

But that's not all. Secrets roam the Durmstrang hallways, secrets that can only remain in the dark for so long. Everyone's got something to hide: a Squib sister, a failure for a brother, a homosexual in the family, tainted or otherwise unpure blood. What's the student next to you hiding? What are you hiding?

But the biggest secret of all is yet to be revealed. Deep in the heart of Black Forest is where fairy tales were born. Where storytellers get their inspiration, and where some of the most beautiful and the most deadly creatures are found. Students have always been safe inside the school walls. Until now. With an unseen threat looming ever closer, students are in danger, and not just from each other.

How do you fight something when you don't even know what it is? And are you strong enough to survive?
