OUT OF CHARACTER Name: Lena Did you have any holds? Cinderella's Prince Way of Contact: AIM - macgirl50 or email macgirl50@mac.com
IN CHARACTER Name: William Alexander Dupree Age: 169, but he appears to be in his mid-twenties Profession: Lawyer Location: New York City
Fairy-Tale Character: Cinderella's Prince Ability: He is able to cover any surface with a sticky, gummy substance at will. Evolution of the Tale: William received his tale completely by accident on the battlefield. He is the fifth reincarnation of the Prince and as the fourth lay dying during the final battle of the war, he reached out and grabbed William's ankle, the Tale transferring to William with the boy's dying breath. How open is your character about their tale? Not at all. No one knows, not even the wife he left behind.
Personality: William has been around for a long while and, as such, he is pretty old fashioned in his beliefs and actions. He's chivalrous and kind and he has a tendency to speak like he is from another time, no matter how he tried to blend him with the current century. He's learned to enjoy the more modern sports like football and baseball, he's learned to eat and drink the things that have become popular in this century, but you can't take the man completely out of the century in which he was born.
As such, he might come off as a bit of a chauvinist. William has trouble wrapping his mind around the fact that women can work and drive and vote and do various other things they didn't do in his time. Luckily, his old-fashioned attitude doesn't make him a complete pig. He still holds doors and treats the women he encounters with respect. He just doesn't know what to think when he encounters women filling a traditionally male role. That confusion increases tenfold when a woman is so bold as to proposition him. William literally will lose his ability to sleep or otherwise function, because he doesn't know how to properly react to such boldness.
He doesn't tend to wear his heart on his sleeve and he can come off as relatively closed off and cold. He's not very open at all, especially with people he doesn't know very well. It's not like he can tell them who he really is, anyway. They would probably have him committed or something!
Sexuality: Quite heterosexual, thanks. History: William Alexander Dupree was born in in 1839, the eldest child of Alexander and Gabrielle Dupree, whose families had migrated to the States from France when they were both still children. The Duprees relocated to Charleston, South Carolina shortly after William's fifth birthday from Boston. Charleston had already started to become a bustling trade center by the time William was born and it was easily the cultural and economic center of the South. William's family was fairly well off, with business being so good, and he never wanted for much of anything.
It was 1860 when South Carolina seceded from the Union and William was just 21 years old. He'd followed in his father's footsteps, getting into the shipping business, but when war broke out, he felt a stronger pull to serving his country. The Duprees were one of the few families in Charleston who didn't support the South in the war. They didn't make this fact widely known, of course, but when it came to actually going to war, it was the Union's army that William signed up with, rather than the Confederacy.
A few years into the war, William met the woman who would eventually be his wife. He was with a troupe of Union soldiers, weary and hungry from a battle in North Carolina, when they stopped to demand hospitality from a plantation in Monticello. William was almost immediately impressed by this young woman who so effectively ran a full plantation on her own and he couldn't help seeking her out during their stay. To say he was enamored of her would be an understatement. Within moments of knowing her, he found himself promising to keep her safe and when the soldiers finally left again, he promised to return to her when the war was over.
It was nearly two years later when William did return, as promised, bringing with him Josie's brother Thomas. He was appalled to learn she was being kept locked up in her room and met with the cook, asking her to get Josie into her nicest dress and informing her that he would kidnap her if that's what it took to keep her from being locked away like that. It wasn't an easy battle to win, but William was determined and in the end, Josie was his. They were married the following month and the next three years can only be described as pure bliss. They were completely happy and completely in love.
One evening, though, his wife expressed concerns about having not become pregnant, yet. She was anxious to start their family and William couldn't bear to tell her it simply wasn't possible. He'd gotten his Tale just a few months before they'd married and as much as he'd loved her, he just hadn't been ready to give that up. Realizing that he was fooling himself, being with her, that he could never be a proper husband when he couldn't give her children, when he'd never grow any older than he was right then, he slipped from the bed after she'd fallen asleep, leaving her with a note of apology.
William made his way north and across the sea. He spent countless years in London where he studied and eventually became a lawyer. He moved around every few years, always changing his identity with each new place. The news that he was assumed dead in America only helped with his charade and it was nearly a century before he returned to his home.
He traveled the country upon his return to the states, traveling from place to place, city to city, state to state. He never stayed in one place for more than a few years and over the past fifty decades, he was resided in every state in the Union.
William's latest move has brought him to New York City, where he's landed a position with a prestigious law firm. Freshly moved into his Park Avenue apartment, he's beginning to explore the city - it's very different than it was when he first came off the boat in New York's harbor several decades ago - intent on taking in all it has to offer for at least the next few years before he will need to move on again.
Chosen Portrayed-By: Callum Blue Sample Journal Entry: [private to self] How is it possible I still think of her after all this time. I could have sworn that I saw her just down the street from the bakery the other morning, but that's impossible. She looked just as she did then and she's long gone by now. My mind was obviously just playing tricks on me. [/]
I absolutely detest moving. Granted, I've done very little of the work myself, but there are boxes and I still need to get some more furniture and I can't seem to locate my favorite sweater. |
