OOC INFO
NAME: Lena
AIM: macgirl50
E-MAIL ADDRESS: lenabee@me.com
TIMEZONE: EST
EXPERIENCE: several years of journal based RP; current active games/chaarcters are at [info]lena

Basics
FULL NAME: Sophia Louise Fawcett
NICKNAMES: Sophie, Soph
AGE: 20
BIRTHDAY: November 5
Curiosity killed the cat; satisfaction brought it back. If ever a wizard exhibited a danger of self destruction from too much knowledge, surely it was a Ravenclaw Scorpio. It doesn't matter whether the pet obsession this week is botany, Muggle pop music, or the history of the Necronomicon, if a Ravenclaw Scorpio wants to know about it, then he will, and damn the consequences: full speed ahead. Indeed, just mention that a subject is "forbidden" and you'll see a peculiar light shine in their eyes. They sneak into locked rooms after dark, and forge passes to the restricted library sections. The lust for arcane knowledge is both the greatest strength of these wizards, and the Achilles heel. It's best to indulge them whenever possible and let the obsession burn itself out; and, when this is not possible, to explain in great detail and absolutely *no* patronizing why the subject must not be explored. These Ravenclaws are quiet and secretive, but don't be fooled by that calm and placid exterior; they have hidden depths.
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Ottery St. Catchpole
BLOOD STATUS: Half-Blood, technically, though she was raised as a Muggleborn and did not learn of her magical relatives until after she received her Hogwarts letter.
PROFESSION: Research Assistant at the Ministry

Magic
HOUSE & YEARS ATTENDED: Ravenclaw, 1991-1998
CLUBS/AFFILIATIONS: Prefect, if possible, please.
WAND: 11 1/2 inch Reed; Kelpie Mane Core
BOGGART: an empty bookshelf - crazy, yes, but her greatest fear is all of her books being suddenly gone.
PATRONUS: Otter - a symbol of laughter, curiosity, mischievous, feminine power, grace, empathy, joy, play, helpfulness.

Family/Relationships
PARENTS:
Samantha and Edmund Fawcett. She's a schoolteacher and he's a novelist. Neither side of their family has a drop of magical history and finding out that Sophia was "special" was a bit of a shock for them all. There's always been the pair of odd aunts that no one had paid much mind to, but until that moment, they were never aware they were witches. Edmund's mother had failed to mention that her mother was magical and that she had been born a squib and chosen a Muggle life when she'd fallen in love with a Muggle man in her late teens.

SIBLINGS: Sophia is the first of three kids. She has two younger brothers - twin boys who are three years younger than she - whom she adores more than anything in the world.
EXTENDED FAMILY: (if important to in-game situations)
SEXUALITY: bi-curious. While she does prefer boys in the end, Sophia's curious nature extends to every facet of her personality and she's not remotely opposed to a little experimenting.
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: No one serious, but she's done her share of casual dating.
CHILDREN: None
PETS: None

Appearance
APPEARANCE:
Small and petite with pale skin, dark brown hair and dark green eyes. Her eyes have little flecks of brown in them and can sometimes actually appear more brown than green, depending on the lighting.

Soph LOVES to wear Muggle clothing. She's never really liked wizarding robes and and now, especially, since she's living at home, she prefers to dress in Muggle clothing, opting instead for a well-worn pair of jeans and a tshirt or sweater whenever she can get away with it.

PB: Camilla Belle

Personality
PERSONALITY IN FIVE WORDS:
curious, friendly, logical, artistic, acrophobic

DETAILED PERSONALITY:
Most of Sophia's hobbies are a throwback to her muggle upbringing. She loves to draw and paint, she enjoys muggle photography, she's an enormous film buff and loves classic muggle literature. The girl nearly always has a novel of some sort with her, even if she's heading into town to do some shopping or down to the dinner table. Sometimes it's a bit of Dickens or Shakespeare, sometimes it's The Portable Dorothy Parker. But there's always something literary in tow when it comes to her.

Sophia really missed her Muggle things when she was in school: her portable computer, her ipod, her dvd player... all the things that Muggle children rely on for entertainment. She never fully understood why these things didn't work at Hogwarts, despite having asked every single person she thought might know the answer, multiple times. It was a good thing she could at least paint and draw at school or she might have gone mad and she's definitely been happy to have those items accessible to her again since leaving school.

Soph has the longest fuse of just about anyone you'll ever meet. She almost never loses her temper, which is probably infuriating if you are trying to get a rise out of her. No matter how you insult her, how you bait her, she remains calm and logical. It keeps her out of trouble, though, and eventually most people just give up trying to piss her off.

Things that Soph dislikes? Turnips, ignorance, people who constantly whine, but never do anything about their problems. She very much believes that we all have a brain and should therefore use it - to better ourselves, to take care of our own problems. There's no logic in complaining about things you refuse to change and Sophia doesn't like or understand anything that cannot be explained away by logic.

Sophia is curious about everything. This is both a strength and a weakness, because while it served her well in her studies and motivates her to learn things, her curiosity can lead her into situations that are not necessarily good. She hasn't really learned that there is a line between good and bad kinds of knowledge and the more a subject is "forbidden," the more she wants to know about it. This could potentially get her in trouble later on, if she manages to get her hands on something she really shouldn't be reading.

History
DETAILED BIOGRAPHY:
Sophia has had quite the happy childhood. Her parents are very obviously just as much in love as they were as teenagers, which sometimes embarrasses their children. Mostly, though, Sophia adores how her parents are with each other. It's given her a bit of a romantic streak, a desire to find someone who understands her they way her parents seem to understand each other.

Soph's two favourite people in this world are her younger brothers - twins Alexander and David. She loves them more than anything and is extremely protective of them. She's actually quite glad they turned out "normal," though, because her parents dote on the twins quite a bit and she likes feeling like she's special, somehow.

Being special does make her feel a bit out of place with her family sometimes, though. She finds that she can't really talk to her parents or brothers about the magical world, because they don't understand about OWLs and spells and all the things a magical kid has to worry about. And she doesn't dare tell them any of the history about Voldemort or the Death Eaters or anything else that might make them think her school could be dangerous at all.

Still, Sophia's family is very loving and supportive and she doesn't want for much of anything. They're not rich, by any means, but they do alright and she loves them to pieces.

Like many stereotypical Ravenclaws, Sophia was always a fairly studious girl. She has a natural curiosity and from the very moment she received her letter, she began to read and learn everything she could about magic. She'd about memorised Hogwarts, A History by the time she boarded the train her first year and she attacked each of her schoolbooks with such voracity that she had very little time for making any good friends in that first term.

Luckily, her excitement waned just enough for her to find a balance. She settled into a routine that allowed for socialising while still giving herself plenty of time to learn about all the different kinds of magic, all the things she could do and see that no one else in her family could.

Sophia isn't loud or overly outgoing, but nor is she shy. She's friendly to just about everyone she meets, at least until she gets to know them well enough to form an opinion. She has very little tolerance for ignorance, though, nor does she waste time trying to impress those who obviously look down on her bloodline. Soph has always been proud of who she is and how she grew up and she sees anyone who would judge her upbringing to be nothing more than a small-minded idiot.

She quickly found a niche for herself at Hogwarts, making a few close friends and many friendly acquaintances. She managed to find a good balance between her studies and making time for a social life and she was just as likely to be caught making out with a cute boy in the stacks as she was to actually be studying in the library. She attended the Yule Ball in her fourth year and was having a fine time making out Stebbins until they were busted by Snape and the reprimand (and loss of 10 house points!) didn't seem to deter her from finding herself in similar situations with others in the future.

Two years after graduating from Hogwarts, she doesn't seem to have settled down much. Sophia has casually dated a handful of people, but she hasn't found anyone to be truly serious about.

JOURNAL ENTRY:
I've just gotten back from my first summer in America since I was.. like eight, which means everyone is looking at me like I've grown horns or something, because I'm talking funny. It also means I have a whooooole lot of loot from Disneyland, which is just as much fun as people make it sound.

It was a fun holiday, but it's really cut into my summer reading time. I picked up a few things in California, though, and I was able to read most of Far from the Madding Crowd on the flight back across the pond, which is really fantastic, but there is so much I wanted to read that I haven't gotten a chance to.

Sixth year. Wow. It'll be strange to not be obsessing about OWLs all year. It'll also be strange to only be taking six classes, but from what I hear about the workload, I think I'll be grateful for the extra spare time.

[note: this was from a game where I played her younger, but she's still the same basic character]
