Abilities: Kyle has an unusually strong constitution. He almost never gets sick and he doesn't injure easily. He's a little more resistant to the abilities of others and possesses more strength than you would expect from someone of his age and build.
Personal History:
Kyle was born into a typical middle class family - if you call having parents who were constantly at one another's throats typical, anyway - on a cool fall night in New York City. He was a good baby, quiet and not very temperamental at all and his parents learned to get along for awhile for his sake. They still bickered, but it was easier to put that aside when they had Kyle to consider.
That peace didn't last very long, though. Kyle grew old enough for school and friends, sports and music lessons, and as he spent more and more time out of the house, the bickerments grew. It certainly didn't help that Kyle's dad couldn't seem to keep it in his pants. Once the truth about an affair he was having with a model half his age came out, the marriage was over. Honestly, Kyle was kind of relieved. Even at the age of 10, he could recognize that his parents really didn't belong together.
Soon after the divorce, his father married the model and moved to LA so that she could pursue her acting career. It was a move Kyle and his mother both rolled their eyes at, even though Kyle did miss him. His mom eventually started to date, but the men who drifted in and out of her life over the years certainly couldn't replace his father's place in his life. A few weeks in LA every summer didn't really make up for it either, which is probably why to this day Kyle is much closer to his mother. He visits his dad when he can, but they'll never have the same kind of bond.
Kyle started taking music lessons when he was 6. He played sports, too, but he never loved sports the way he did music. He learned to play the piano and the guitar very well and even then he thinks he knew music was his calling in life. It's the only thing he's ever wanted to do more than casually. Sure, he'll play a pickup game of basketball in the park with his friends, but he doesn't love it the way he does music.
Money has been tight since his parents split up. His mom does the best she can, but Kyle has always had a strong sense of responsibility and he always did what he could to help out. He got jobs babysitting when he was younger. He had a paper route for a couple of years after her turned 13. Shortly after his 16th birthday he scored a job waiting tables at some crappy diner down the street. It didn't pay very well, but it was better than nothing and eventually that job led to a slightly better one. Now he's working at a much nicer restaurant, one that more than pays the bills.
It was while they were still in high school that Kyle and his best friends Dex, Kenny, Perna and Bee decided to form a band. They busted their asses practicing and even managed to get a few gigs. Kyle was pretty sure they were going places before Kenny took off. Needless to say Kyle was pissed. He didn't care about Kenny's reasons for leaving. This was his dream he was fucking with.
His parents wanted him to go to college, but Kyle insisted on not wasting their money on something he saw no real benefit in. There was a lot of arguing, but he finally persuaded them to let him at least take a year off. Not being in school gives him a lot more time to work and all of his free time is devoted to Highway 21. He still hasn't given up on his dreams, not even after Kenny bailed on them to go home to Chicago. Kyle was more determined than ever and set to work trying to find someone to replace Kenny. It hasn't been easy going, of course, but there's no way Kyle is giving up.
Personality:
Kyle is, by and large, a very friendly young man. He's outgoing and energetic. His manner could almost be described as flirty, though it's rarely intentional. Kyle isn't usually one to sleep around, but he's also not exactly gung-ho about relationships in general. He hasn't exactly had the best examples to look up for - his parents were completely dysfunctional, his mom has horrible taste in men and even his friends seem to have some pretty screwd up relationships. As far as Kyle is concerned, it's better to focus on his music.
That's not to say he hasn't fooled around with his share of girls or that he's never had a one night stand. Kyle isn't a guy who goes out of his way to get laid, but he's still a guy and he's not always in the mood to reject the advances of an attractive girl who thinks his musical ability makes him sexy.
Most of the time, though, Kyle is a responsible guy who tries to do the right thing. He's dedicated to his music, his band and his friendships and those come first with him. Screwing some girl isn't nearly as important as the band or the people he cares about and on those occasions when he does let his hormones drive, he's extremely careful. He's not going to screw up his future over a moment of teenage stupidity.
As much as he tries to do the right thing, Kyle can hold a grudge forever. His trust is easily gained, but once it's lost, it's nearly impossible to get it back. When Kyle is pissed, he'll stay pissed for a really long time. He still hasn't quite forgiven his father for moving to the other side of the country, even now. He'll visit the man and he still loves him, but he still carries a lot of anger over him leaving.
Holding grudges aside, though, Kyle is pretty easy going and laid back. When he's not working or practicing, he's lounging around listening to music, playing video games or hitting a nearby park for a game of one on one. His bandmates are his best friends, but he has plenty of other friends outside of the band and he still tries to keep in touch with the buddies he had in high school.
Physical Description: Kyle has the appearance of the mostly cleancut boy next door and for the most part he fits that. He dresses in jeans and t-shirts most of the time, though occasionally you'll catch him wearing something a little nicer than that. He has a warm and friendly smile and gives off that general "big brother" vibe. The overall first impression most people get is that he's a responsible and trustworthy young man.
