Creativity and dowsing. Users of these wands tend to be very intelligent and creative. Teachers and artists use Hazel a lot; Jobberknoll feather - Jobberknoll feathers are good wand cores for charms, advancing along with its owner through time. Appearance PB: Zac Efron Physical description: Alan is of average height and build for his age, with a vaguely athletic frame, but nothing resembling bulging muscles. He's toned, but not anywhere close to looking like a bodybuilder. Al keeps in shape naturally with the various sports he enjoys, but he doesn't do a lot of excess working out on top of that. He has wavy brown hair and blue eyes. His style of dress ranges from casual to perfectly pressed, depending on what it is that he is doing. He's less concerned about his appearance if he's just chilling on his own or playing a pickup game of something or other on the grounds, but when the occasion calls for it, he does know how to dress to impress. Alan is definitely clean cut, with no tattoos or piercings of any kind. The idea of marring his perfect body with such things? Inconceivable. Personality Likes: horses, sports, flying, charms, lazy weekends, letters from home, random games of.. almost any sport, competition (when he wins... he's not a great loser) Dislikes: bees, "chick flicks," losing, people he views as "lesser" Quirks: he bites his nails, one of his only tells when he's nervous or worried. Secrets: + He had genuine feelings for Maggie. He can't say whether he was in love with her, but he does know he's hurting and he wants her to pay for causing that. + He's a big homophobe. This isn't something that has been made obvious, yet, but I expect that will change in the future. + He still keeps the blanket his parents wrapped him in as a child. It's one of the few sentimental items he'll allow himself. Strengths: athletic, charming, intelligent Weaknesses: spoiled, vindictive, egotistical, bigoted, snobbish Detailed Personality: Alan is perceived as many different things depending on his relationship with the person in question. To his sister, he is kind, playful and affectionate. To those he views as his inferiors, he is an arrogant asshole. To the girls he is involved with, he is charming and passionate - unless you count his ex-girlfriend, who probably views him as a complete and utter jerk at this point. On the surface, Al appears to be the perfect guy. He's rich, he's handsome, he's athletic. He knows how to make a person feel like the center of his world if that is what he wants to do. He's good at manipulating people and he has carefully cultivated the good reputation he has with his teachers and those he views as his equals. He isn't nearly as concerned with how certain other people see him. Alan can be a spoiled little snob and he happens to believe that he is better than those who were born to a lower class than him. He has little tolerance or patience for those who have less mainstream or traditional lifestyles or views of the world. He's all about conformity and blending in and he has little patience for those who blatantly rebel against societal norms. If it's not obvious, the boy has something of an ego and he likes having it stroked. He prefers to participate in activities he excels at and he's a part of the student council not as much because he cares about his school, but because it's just another way of feeling somehow above everyone else. History The Marstons are an old wizarding family. Early immigrants to the New World (where they hoped to escape persecution), they settled in the Salem area and lived simply but happily for several generations before witchcraft hysteria once again reared its ugly head. They hoped to be left alone, but to no avail; Mary, wife of John was caught and tried. However, since the couple were not only actual witches but quite accomplished, they were able to convince the judges that Mary was not guilty. As soon as she was permitted to go, they fled to Philadelphia, where they lived for several years. After the school was established, especially since Mary was pregnant with children who would benefit from a good wizarding education, they deemed it both safe and wise to return to Salem and live among the wizarding community there. Since then there have always been Marstons in the Salem area; the family has been noted for its accomplishments (in particular Orville Marston, the celebrated wandmaker, and Healer Dora Desmond-Marston, who discovered the magical cure for polio), and Marstons in several generations have taught at Salem Academy. Jasper Marston and Alienor Corellis had a classic romance. They were high school sweethearts who started dating in their sophomore year, but reluctantly split on graduation; Jasper had governmental aspirations and needed more education, while Alienor returned home to her family in Washington state, where she learned animal Healing from her father. However, after two years there, she was sick of being isolated from other wizards and decided to return to Salem. There she and Jasper reconnected and before another year was up they were married. Shortly afterward, Alienor gave birth to twins. the above shamelessly lifted from his twin sister's journal Alan and Jen have been practically inseparable since birth, always wanting many of the same things, always serving as a constant companion to the other. Jen is the person Alan is closest to in the world. She is the one person who knows nearly every side of him and one of the few in this world that he will willingly confide in. The twins were pushed to learn and grow from the time they were small and that bred a competitive streak into Alan. Surrounding by many cousins in addition to his sister, he has always felt the need to be the best, if only for the prestige of knowing that he's better. With the way the twins were always spoiled, he's come to believe that he truly is better than others, especially those who have not had a similar upbringing. Upon starting school, his natural competitiveness extended to sports. He loves Quodpot because he knows he's amazing at it. It certainly doesn't hurt when it comes to attracting girls, too, which has become a major interest since hitting puberty. Alan quickly decided that he really enjoyed spending time with the fairer sex, especially once he began to find it easy to charm some of them into getting a bit more.. physical with him. As his interest in sports increased, Alan started to rely more and more on his natural intellect to get him by, preferring to put more of his effort and focus into the things he enjoys. He manages decent grades in most of his classes, all the time, but he only really excels in the areas that interest him. Currently, Alan is in a slightly less social phase, trying to recover from a broken heart wounded ego. The girl he had been seeing for months recently dumped him - and unfairly, if you ask him. Sure, he was pressuring her for sex, but who wouldn't if he'd been with a girl for that long? He had needs, after all! The truth is that he did really care for her, more than he is now willing to let on to more than his closest inner circle of friends and family. He masks that by being a complete ass to her whenever their paths cross and spends far too much time brooding over her when no one else is looking. Of course, this doesn't stop him from hitting on other girls. It might be a ploy to make her jealous and win her back, but he's not above manipulation, especially if it earns him some short term physical gratification in the meantime. Samples Journal Entry: I've been having a really good weekend! Dari and Jeremy came home yesterday and they brought the girl they're adopting - Remy - home to meet everyone. We all had dinner together and then I dragged her out to this party. It was a lot of fun it sucks that my boyfriend has a job and Ben even met us after he got done working! Anyway, thanks Trick and Ethan and everyone for helping me keep her entertained! I'm not sure how I feel about her, but she's important to Jeremy and Dari, so I want her to like me I have to admit that watching Annie hunt for Easter Eggs was kind of fun. She kind of sucked at it, of course, but she's only, like, two, so you really can't expect her to be an expert or anything, yet. Dinner was SO good, too. I'm completely stuffed.
