Cygnus was as quick to release him as Gaultier was to be free of him; they sprang apart as though burned, Cygnus letting his arms settle in a deceptively relaxed fold across his chest as his gaze steadied on Gaultier, taking in the overbearing, imperious, egomaniacal sight of him, and then drifted down as the other man's shoes received his narrowed stare.
"Just as much as you cannot be bothered with a Black." The flat-toned murmur was followed by a stretch of silence as Cygnus considered exactly what the 'word' he wanted with Gaultier even was; the corner of his mouth tightened in a small tic that twisted it until a grimace replaced the slate that had been his expression until now. The twitching of a muscle indicated only too plainly that he was grinding his teeth -- and then suddenly, his eyes snapped up to Gaultier's.
"This is a sick joke at my expense and I've had enough. Enough of the fighting, enough of the jealousy, enough of this. Obviously you care fuck-all for my earlier apology, and now you're just stringing me around -- tormenting me until we're even, is that it?" His tone had dropped and acquired a harshness that was very similar to Gaultier's, and he paused for a steadying breath before finishing with: "I swear to fucking Merlin, Gaultier, we are finished if we don't fix this -- what do you want me to do?"
Beneath the anger, unbeknownst to him, lay a quiet note of pleading.
