Gaultier was right: Cygnus wasn't acting like himself -- at least, not his current self. Rather, the hesitancy in his words and the caution with which he watched the other man was reminiscent of his sixteen year old self, unsure and -- although he would never, ever admit to it -- overwhelmed by Gaultier. Had he been blushing, he would appear entirely as he did the morning after that first fateful encounter, disorientated from the attention Gaultier had shown him -- and still showed him, only now, Cygnus was pale-faced.
But Gaultier had given him a command, and with a start, Cygnus realized he was staring at his lover. Again, he cleared his throat and, with a small nod, closed his eyes and extended a hand, palm upturned and held mid-air. "This is all very unpreced--" he began before interrupting himself for the second time as the key was dropped into his hand. Disbelievingly, he closed his fingers around it, judging it for what it was by touch alone, before finally opening his eyes to look at this most unexpected of objects. Brows knitted briefly together as he stared at the key, only blinking and lifting his gaze slowly to meet Gaultier's piercing one when he felt his fingers on his cheek.
"This is a key." Surprise was evident in his voice, and he sucked briefly down on his lower lip before repeating, "A key, Gaultier. I..." A short, sudden laugh escaped him, and he held up the item in question, peering at it in genuine astonishment. "This I did not see coming. I.. Merlin, Gaultier, I do love how your mind works." With his free hand, he reached up and covered Gaultier's on his face, interlocking their fingers and dragging it down to his mouth, lips that were already curved in the beginnings of a smile parting as he bit lightly down on his knuckles.
