drawing rooms
Naturally within the Black Manor, there are two sitting rooms, both on the first floor, one for the men and one for the women. The men's drawing room is decorated in a lavish blood red, with chess tables and hunting trophies as pieces of interest. The men's drawing room is also available as an office to any guests who insist on conducting their very important business while on vacation. The men's sitting room also comes complete with its own liquor cabinet and billiards table, for unwinding or entertaining through business talk. Books of particular interest to only the male population at the Manor take up a small bookshelf to the right of the door. Pulling one specific book, however, will open one of the few documented secret passages in the house, this one leading through the walls to the women's sitting room, where the men enjoy eavesdropping. Meanwhile, in the women's sitting room, the fairer sex is free to pursue their hobbies and talents away from the men. Located beneath a private sun room, the women's drawing room contains a white piano, painting supplies, baskets of needlework, and, thanks to the dumb-waiter that leads down to the kitchens, a never-ending supply of tea and teacakes. In a curio against the far wall rests the Noble and Most Ancient Black Family China, the tea set that is the subject of constant warfare between the elder Black women. This room acts as the woman's escape from the pressures of being a wife and mother and the doors are charmed to refuse entrance to men or children.
dining
The formal dining room is also located on the first floor. It is here that all the planned meals occur. Breakfast is open ended, and available until 11:30 in the morning, so all those who enjoy their lie-ins while on vacation may. Lunch is also prone to drop ins and walk throughs, considering the important and busy lives that all the Black family and friends lead. Dinner, however, is served promptly at 7:30 each evening, and all the guests are expected to be in attendance so as to inform each other of their day's adventures. Exceptions are made for the infirm or the called away. Formal dress is preferred but not mandatory, although you run the risk of being subject to the most vicious, but always well-intentioned, gossip at the mouths of the Black women should you show up in less than your evening best. In the event you miss a meal, however, or find what's being served not to your liking, the kitchens are located downstairs in the basement, where another team of house elves is ready and waiting to take short orders. They have all received stern instructions not to dish out sweets at the whims of children, but of course, the house elves are easy to wheedle, threaten, or beat into submission. The hired human help makes grocery runs into town roughly once a week and, like the house elves, are under strict instruction not to allow children to sneak along, but, also like house elves, are easily beaten until giving in.
library
Apart from the private, specifically chosen collection of books within each of the drawing rooms, there is an expansive library taking up the entire second floor of the manor. Organized into sections by topics, and with several small reading rooms, the library is a favourite retreat of Blacks of the more intellectual inclination. It is quite easy to get yourself lost amongst the maze of shelves, or sunken too far into the comfortable plush furniture to ever want to leave this part of the home. However, one look at the family ghost, Faustus Black (died a proud 100 years ago, as he will be glad to inform you) will warn of what happens when one delves too deeply into knowledge.
bedrooms
Bedrooms and suites are located on the third floor. Families vacationing at the Black manor all receive a suite of apartments to themselves, whereas the actual family members all have rooms either to themselves, or to share with a sibling. Boys and girls may not share rooms unless they are married -- in fact, the men's and women's rooms are located on opposite sides of the floor to prevent misbehaviour, although Missus Druella will kindly attest to the rule's spotty enforcement. Within the rooms, fireplaces are kept roaring and beds are turned down by industrious house elves, always available to fulfil any other requests guests may make.
