Awakening of The Bride
Tyler had tracked the cultists to this graveyard in the middle of nowhere. He didn't know why they were there, but he wasn't going to let them do it. This assholes had been responsible for several kidnappings already. They were on his list for a serious ass-kicking. He maintained a discreet distance as they began to speak.

"This where she's supposed to be at?"

"According to Lord Keyral, yes."

"Why does he want her?"

"Who knows and I certainly have no desire to question him!" scolds the other cultist. "Summon up a few workers."

"Right," mutters the second. He takes some small bones out of a bag and throws them to the ground. The two then chant a few words, causing the bones to vibrate and multiply. Before long they build-on and transforms into several animated skeletons. One cultist points to several shovels. "Start digging!"

The lifeless skeletons hobble over, pick up the tools, and get to work.

More than seventy years ago, the so-called "Bride" had tracked a rather brutal vampire named Deacon Frost to this city, a stopover on the way to some other nefarious scheme. But in the middle of extracting information from one of Frost's mortal agents, she had been attacked by a monster hunter, one whom wasn't interested in explanations (not that she would have felt like explaining herself in the first place), and having thus been taken by surprise, beaten and injured to the point where she could not function.

Buried, alone and forgotten, and as nearly dead as a creature like her could be. It was a dreamless, timeless state...

Tyler had been tempted to just go in there and clean house, though part of him also wanted to see just what they were digging up.

The skeletons continued digging tirelessly until they reached some manner of container.

"There it is! Lift it up while we prepare our spells!"

It was a simple wooden coffin, the kind the poorest of the poor were buried in, already the wood rotting and breaking away already. The lid slid off on its own from time and age, revealing a corpse-like figure, a pale woman that was a patchwork of scars... and oh yes, an additional set of arms, dressed in dark leathers.

The body seemed remarkably untouched, as though even the lowliest of creatures had been afraid to consume it.

"Damn," one said, looking over the body. "That is one messed-up looking chick."

"Maybe, but she's anything like the male Monster, then she'll be a valuable weapon to have." He pulls out a medallion, which starts to go. "Let's bind this thing to our service and get out of here."

"I don't think so!" Tyler leaps from his position, managing to clear the skeletons before bowling over the cultist with the medallion. While the spell wasn't started, a hint of magic had escaped it.

There was a sudden... let's call it a spark. And dark eyes snapped open for the first time in over seventy years, focusing in with uncanny clarity on her surroundings.

"Ungh..."

The Bride struggled to her feet, her vocal cords not yet up to the task of forming actual words.

"The Bride is ours, hunter! Lord Keyral demands it! Kill him!"

The skeletons move with surprising quickness as they move toward Tyler. He's forced to abandon his attack on the cultist as one skeleton swings a shovel at his head. He grabs the makeshift weapon before it can hit. However, this distracts him from a second skeleton who swung with its own shovel, connecting with his side.

"She's awakening!" cried the second cultist.

"Damn it! We must act quickly. Begin the binding spell!" The two pull out matching medallions and begin to chant in an obscure tongue.

The Bride's upper arms struck out, smashing in the skulls of the skeletons that had still been near the coffin, while her lower arms crossed her body, reaching into the holsters hidden in her long coat.

Pistols were drawn and fired at the nearest cultists. The bullets were silver, meant for killing the undead, but a bullet was a bullet, no matter what it was made of.

The skeletons' skulls imploded into dust, dropping the now inanimate things to the ground.

The cultists had enough knowledge of the Bride to be prepared for this. They muttered an arcane syllable, bringing a mystic shield up, causing the bullets to impact harmlessly. Then then began to cast a new spell, causing roots to erupt from the ground in an attempt to ensnare the Bride's limbs.

Tyler allowed himself to go feral, his strength and speed increasing. He grabbed a shovel and with a blow to the handle, snapped it in half. He then brought the metal end into the skeletons face, shattering the bone. He dodged a strike from the second before halling off and caving in its skull with a straight right punch.

He then turns back toward the two cultists and begins to run toward them.

The Bride struggled against the bonds, tugging with all the strength all four limbs could present.

"Ugnh.... Unnnhnd...mmmme!"

"No! You belong to us now, creature! Now just stand still and..." The cultist is interrupted by a backhand that sends him flying to the side. The second turns and fires off the syllables of a fire spell. Tyler leaps out of the way as the ground at his feet erupted into flames. However, now both mystics had their attention away from the Bride.

Fire! Instinctively, the Bride flinched, momentary fear filling her. It was one of the few forces in the world that could do her true and possibly lasting harm.

"Ahhh blnnng t n'nne...!"

Blast it! Her vocal cords were healing, but far too slowly.

Her lower arms, freed now, reached into her coat and holstered her guns, pulling out wooden stakes instead. With super-human force, she threw them.

The mystic who had thrown the fire spell turned, but not in time to avoid the stake as it impaled the man, sending him flying..dead before he hit the ground. The other cultist had more presence of mind and managed to just barely dodge out of the way of the second stake. He looks from Tyler to the Bride, and decides discretion is the better part of valor. He begins to cast a telportation spell. Tyler races toward the man, but the spell is completed, transporting the man to only he knew where.

Tyler slowly turns around to face the Bride. He raises his arms, palms out. "I'm not here to hurt you." He wasn't sure who this was, but clearly she wasn't with the cultists.

She fixed her attention on the one she'd seen fighting, her lower hands going for her pistols again.

He wasn't human, that was clear, but...

"What... what are you?" Her voice, returning, was still rough, but contained a clear Eastern European accent.

"That's not an easy question to answer," he replies. "And it's one I could ask you," referring to her multiple scars and her lower pair of hands. "It's a long story that I'm not sure we have the time to discuss, but I will say I inherited a little something from my father."

The lower hands rested on the handles of her pistols, but she didn't draw them yet.

The Bride decided the question did not require an immediate answer. "Who... were... they?" she asked instead.

"Demon-worshiping cultists. Their organization has been kidnapping people for their rituals. I've been trying to locate their headquarters, though I suspect they are larger than I originally thought."

Her features twisted in a scowl. "They were seeking to use me for their own purposes," she said. It was a statement, not a question, and dripping with disgust.

"And if they are dabbling with demons, then they doubly deserve death."

"Dealing death to cultist assholes will have to wait for now. It's almost sun-up, and no offense Miss, but you'd be hard to hide in the sun." "I have a ca..um, vehicle near-by. I can give you shelter, catch you up on things until night. What do you say?"

"I know what cars are," she told him. "But that would be appreciated."

She cleared her throat again, shaking more dust from her vocal cords. "What year is this?" she asked.

Sorry," he says sheepishly. "Not sure how long you were in that thing."

He pauses. "It may be a lot to believe, but..the year is 2012.

"It all seemed... but a moment."
