Part of that could just be her childish nature showing through in her appearance, though.

DETAILED PERSONALITY: Melly is a bubbly, vivacious girl with a heart of gold. It sounds trite, but she's your stereotypical small town girl, complete with a slight naivety that comes being overly sheltered by her parents and living in a good neighborhood where nothing exciting ever really happens.. Not much, anyway.
Growing up, she was a fairly popular kid. Melly has always been extremely friends and outgoing and add to that her easygoing nature and she made friends pretty easily. It was always unusual to find her not surrounded by a group of giggling girls or even some of the more popular boys in school. Someone was nearly always vying for her attention and she has quite a few friends and acquaintances.
Melly is a flirt, to be sure, but she's not one to be super serious about a boy. The way she sees it, she's young and now is the time to be having fun and enjoying life. She'll settled down with a boy and have some babies once she's done with school and all of that. For now, she's just trying to enjoy life and have a good time - life's too short for anything less.
HISTORY: Melly grew up in a small, friendly neighborhood where everyone knows everyone else and it's nearly impossible to keep anything a secret. Her parents didn't have a lot of money for the bulk of her childhood and even though she always had everything she absolutely needed, Melly grew up knowing that you had to work for things. She did chores around the house and as she got older, she babysat and did other odd jobs to earn spending money for those little extras she wanted to have. To Melly, they were never poor, because she had everything she needed and two amazing parents and that was what mattered.
As an only child, she was a little spoiled in terms of her parents' attentions. She often wished for a sibling, but luckily she was able to live vicariously through her childhood best friend who had plenty of siblings. Despite sometimes yearning for a little brother or sister of her own, though, she was really happy with what she had as a kid. Melly was lucky and she knew it.
Starting school was like an adventure for Melly, but she was a little nervous about meeting new people. After all, she was mainly just used to her parents, Abbie, and the other kids in her neighborhood and school was going to be something completely different.
It took some time to settle in and make friends, of course, but she had Abbie and that helped a lot. The girls were as inseparable as ever; it was rare to see one without the other. Eventually, though, she did start to branch out and make friends of her own. Now, she's one of the more popular girls in school and she's definitely looking forward to the start of her junior year.
