Home Security: What You Need To Know
Securing your home can seem overwhelming and confusing, especially if you have never dealt with home security companies before. That said, it can also be quick and easy. Read the following article for some great tips on how to properly secure your home. home security tips

You do not want to use spring latch locks. They are simple to open if you have a credit card. Intruders can pick these locks by wedging a credit card in between the latch and the door. If you've already got spring latch locks, you can put in a deadbolt for additional security.

Before you give a security company employee access to your home, make sure they're in uniform and that they present acceptable identification. Burglars are creative, and they often pose as a member of the security team to get inside. This proves rather dangerous for both your family and also your valuables. Be cautious to stay away from those potential dangers.

You don't want to have toys lying around in your yard if your children aren't using them. This makes the burglars suspect that women live there, and they are viewed as easy targets. Because they tend to own valuable jewelry that's ripe for stealing, women make a house into a more attractive target for burglars.

A great protection against burglars is owning a dog. Dogs protect their territory diligently, and tend to make noise if something goes awry. There is no need for a guard dog. Even small dogs can keep intruders away since they don't want lots of noise when committing crimes.

Be sure no rooms inside your house are visible outside. If you're able to see a computer or TV in a house, a thief may see it as well. Window treatments are a wonderful way to maintain privacy in your home. If this is not a possibility, keep really valuable stuff in interior rooms.

Don't forget to secure your skylights too. Skylights have a good function, but unfortunately they also often provide a way for a burglar to enter. Keep them secure with heavy duty hardware that closes them off to potential thieves.

Consider installing a surveillance system. Video camera installation can effectively make your home secure. Visible cameras can scare intruders, and hidden ones can catch them in the act. A lot of surveillance cameras could be accessed through your phone, giving you the chance to check it even when you're away.

Use your dog as the protector of your spare key. This only makes sense if your dog is outdoors a lot or you have a pet door. Put a key on the dog's collar so you have access to it when necessary!

If you have a garage, increase your home security by using it to house your car, rather than just for storage. Keeping the car in the garage can keep thieves from vandalizing or stealing it. Keeping your car out of sight is also a good way to prevent intruders from determining whether or not you are home.

Ask the security company if they're currently offering an motion sensitive lighting. Many providers can supply this, and it switches exterior lights on whenever anyone comes near a point of entry. This will ward off thieves and make you feel safe when you come home.

A home security system may be the right choice for you and your family. It may be, however, that you simply need to start doing a few things differently around your house. Research all options thoroughly to make an informed choice.
