Halloween is only a couple weeks away – plenty of time to put together an inexpensive costume.

For the next two days only, all Halloween costumes are 50% off with a student discount at Shindigz,

Spirit Halloween Stores are also offering 10% cash back on all purchases made through Student Rate.com

If you want to do it yourself, here are some ideas for costumes you can make with recycled or inexpensive materials. Get a start now so you don’t have to do emergency management at the last minute.

Scarecrow - Borrow some clothes from a larger friend including a shirt and blue jeans or overalls. Cut patches from an old flannel shirt or blanket and tape them to the clothes. Use rope for a belt, and to tie the ends of your sleeves and pant legs. Fill up the baggy clothes with newspaper, grocery bags or other clothes. Stick some straw out of the cuffs, wrists and neckline. Top it off with an old hat.

Static Cling - Wear jeans or sweatpants and a sweatshirt. Use safety pins to attach socks, underwear and dryer sheets to your clothes. Gel or spray your hair so it sticks up.

Mummy - This one is really easy. Wrap yourself in gauze or toilet paper.

Mother Nature - Collect flowers, leaves, branches, rocks, etc. Use a glue gun to attach them to your clothes. Make a wreath of twigs or leaves for your head. Carry a  plush bird or squirrel.  Add a construction helmet to be an environmental engineer.

Cereal Killer - Gather empty cereal boxes. Cut slits in them and glue plastic or butter knives in the slits. Use red paint or lipstick to look like blood running from the cuts. Then attach the boxes to your clothes.

Balloon Grapes - Attach green, red or purple balloons to your clothes with safety pins. Paint your face brown.

Black Eye Pea - Wear all white. Cut out black letter Ps from construction paper or felt and pin them to your clothes. Paint a black ring around one eye. This is a great group costume.

Laundry – Find an old plastic laundry basket and cut a hole in the bottom so you can wear it, sitting on your hips. Fill the basket with laundry.

Rubicks Cube – Find a large cardboard box you can wear. Tape squares of different colors of paper  to the sides in the pattern of a Rubick’s cube.

Dice – This one is great for a couple. Paint or cover wearable boxes with white. Cut out black circles from construction paper or felt and glue them to the sides.

Clothesline –This is another great group costume. Attach a rope to one person’s shoulder with a safety pin, drape it across their front and pin it to the other shoulder, then drape a couple of feet of the rope and attach it to the next person in the same way.. Use clothespins to attach pieces of clothing to the pieces of rope in between each person.
