IC.

Name: Parvati Karisma Patil!
Age: 16.
House/Year: Gryffindor / 12th.
Social Status: The Patils aren't one of England's age-old aristocratic families, and it is perhaps this very fact that makes their overall mentality so very different from the rest of the elite society they commonly associate with. While the Patils do indeed have money (and quite a bit of it), they have not been a part of Britain's history for nearly as long as families such as the Malfoys - however, their money does not come from business, but is rather money acquired generations ago in India; thus, the Patils are decidedly not nouveau riche, and their standing as a family of old money, albeit not of England, has earned them the grudging respect of the social elite that comprises England's aristocracy.

Appearance: Parvati is a rather pretty girl of Indian descent; she is petite, standing at only 5'1'', and has the curves that are so characteristic to both her own family, and to Indian women as a whole. She wears her thick, dark brown hair long and usually in a simple braid, although she loves to adorn her hair with little ornaments (such as her beloved butterfly pin, a present from her maternal grandmother). While her features are all quite attractive, her eyes can be said to be the true key to her beauty, due to their rich brown color and ever-mischievous twinkle, and her long, thick eyelashes only serve to make her appear that much more flirtatious. Parvati, when not in her standard-issue Hogwarts College uniform, has a liking for the colour pink, a hue which decidedly compliments her dark skin. Overall, she has a playful, happy appearance, always friendly and usually quite approachable.

Personality: Parvati is regarded by most as a pretty, yet hopelessly airheaded girl; this perception of her stems from her inherently girlish - and often naive - tendencies. While she does indeed enjoy doing stereotypically feminine things such as shopping and flipping through the latest copy of Elle Magazine, this is certainly not all there is to the girl's personality. Yes, she likes to gossip(how could you not?!), and thus, her affinity for secrets and talking about others often gives off an aura of mean-spiritedness; however, Parvati tries fairly hard to be nice to most of her classmates. Unless they're complete berks (ie: most Slytherins), she isn't entirely averse to conversing with others.

This in itself is a major facet of her personality: Parvati loves to talk. She can go on for hours if not stopped, about anything at all, and if her parents let her have one of those fancy new cellphones? Why, they would go utterly mad trying to keep their phone bill from rising to astronomical proportions. As a Gryffindor, she does indeed have a tendency to rush into things without thinking, although this trait of hers is usually displayed by her near-complete inability to keep a secret. She does have a good head on her shoulders, however, and thus can be trusted to keep silent if the secret is one of great importance (such as the DA in her fifth year).

Parvati is, at her very core, a fun-loving girl who adores being the center of attention - and she'll manipulate matters to make sure she is. Thus, Parvati can sometimes come off as bossy; when things aren't going exactly to her liking, she'll try to take charge to make sure they do. She knows she's attractive (although, like any girl, she has her share of insecurities), but she doesn't flaunt it, persay (that'd be terribly obnoxious, didn't you know?). To sum it up, Parvati is the type of girl who knows what she wants, and she really will try to do whatever she can to attain it.

She's a friendly girl, and one who, if you succeed in earning her trust, will defend you to the very end. A Gryffindor to a T, Parvati has her share of self-righteous attitude and can become affronted rather easily if insulted - at which point, she'll attack you with her own share of insults. No, they won't be wonderfully witty or clever, but they'll be from the heart, and she'll mean them. If Parvati says she'll get revenge? Yes, she'll do everything within her power to make sure she does.

Defining Characteristics: Parvati is, although she doesn't really take note of the fact, a rather adept writer. Despite her often airheaded comments and attitude, she can be rather shrewd; unlike her best friend, Lavender, Parvati is able to actively take notice of her surroundings (and the people in them), and is a fairly good judge of character. However, being a Gryffindor, Parvati is predisposed to jumping to conclusions, whether she have solid proof or not. Although it is difficult for her to become truly upset, when she does, her temper is one to be reckoned with. She despises when situations don't go completely to her liking; thus, she'll often try to control things to make sure they do, which makes her appear rather bossy. In truth, she's just a girl who knows exactly what she wants!

Likes:
• Art, of course! I'm going to be a fashion designer one day.
• Boys. Boys, boys, boys! You can't live without them, you really and truly can't.
• The colour pink. It's the queen of all colours, how could you pick any other?!
• Fashion. A girl should always try and look her best!
• My sister, Padma. She's one of the loveliest people in the world, and so smart, too.

Dislikes:
• Most Slytherins! I am a Gryffindor, after all. And most of them really pay no attention to their appearance whatsoever; it's so unfortunate.
• The idea of aristocratic superiority! Have you met Hermione? Yes, her hair may be rather horrendous, but she's the smartest girl in the school, so there.
• Physics. Professor McGonagall simply doesn't UNDERSTAND artistic sensibilities, so she MUST have completely skewed priorities!
• Mummies. I know they don't exist, but I once saw this film, it was utterly terrifying. Oh Lord, let's not talk about this.
• Chipped nails! I try my very hardest to make sure mine are looking perfect.

Inside Scoop:
• I snore! It's so unladylike, I know, and I was completely appalled when Lavender told me, but I have no idea how to STOP.
• I once tried to copy Scary Spice's hairstyle, but I ended up with this big, poofy mess on the top of my head. I faked sick that day! I just COULDN'T go to class looking like, I don't know, some sort of ungroomed dog.
• I still talk to Claude occasionally - if you don't know (which, oh, obviously you wouldn't, since no one knows!), Claude was the boy from Beauxbatons that I met in fourth year. We're not dating, of course, but he's so nice to talk to! French boys are so much more mature.
• I love to write! I have a diary of my very own, not a public one like this journal here, and I often come up with ridiculous editorial ideas that I could one day write as a journalist at Vogue.
• I once I had a nightmare, a completely awful nightmare, in which a murderer came and killed the rest of my family. When I woke up, I crawled into Padma's bed, because I just couldn't stand being alone. Of course, I told her that there was this unbearable draft in my room, and I needed to sleep somewhere else for the night.

History: Parvati Patil comes from a fairly old aristocratic family, although her lineage can't be traced nearly as far back as some of the other, more prominent ones, such as the Malfoys. Despite their old money and respectable standing in England's elite society, the Patils aren't quite intimate with prestigious Pureblood families such as the Malfoys or Parkinsons, namely due to their blatantly neutral stand on the Prime Minister and the shady Voldemort, Inc. However, this does not mean that the Patils are looked down upon by the others, and Parvati was acquainted with students such as Pansy, Draco, and Theodore long before attending Hogwarts College.

Parvati, when not at boarding school, lives with her mother Nikita and father Bankim in a select area fairly close to the city of London. Their house, not a mansion by any means, is nevertheless spacious and welcoming. Thus, Parvati does not have to share a room with her sister Padma, and nor is she ever left wanting for any materialistic object. Her parents, being the fairly well-off folk that they are, provide their daughters with everything they may need - resulting in Parvati often having some of the best, most expensive robes money can buy.

Parvati and Padma were born on August 18th, 1980. Since Nikita and Bankim had not wanted to have any prior knowledge about their children, they were rather surprised (happily, of course) when the twin girls were born. They were determined not to fall into the common trap of treating their daughters the same, and would often talk to Padma and Parvati seperately to build up a sense of individuality in both. This 'experiment' was hugely successful, as Parvati and Padma became two very different people who were nevertheless quite close, sharing that special bond that only twins have.

Nikita and Bankim were loving parents who constantly doted on their children, and their love did not wane in the slightest when Parvati's younger sister, Prathna, was born. The Patils endeavoured to teach their children both educational and moral lessons throughout their childhood, continuously trying to instill the right values in all three.

When the twins were sent off to Hogwarts College, neither Nikita or Bankim anticipated Parvati being placed in Gryffindor - Nikita herself had been a former Slytherin, while Bankim had been a Ravenclaw. This isn't to say they held any sort of grudge against their daughter for being sorted into Gryffindor; they were quite proud of her all the same. Parvati herself was rather upset over being seperated from her sister, and for being so blatantly different from the rest of her family in terms of Sorting, although she eventually found her niche in Gryffindor with the help of her new friend, Lavender Brown. Parvati had always been rather outgoing, a fact which her reserved sister found wearisome at times; however, in Gryffindor, Parvati fit right in, as many of the other students were also quite outspoken. She met Lavender Brown in her first year, and the two became fast friends almost immediately, bonding over their shared love for Barbie dolls and ElleGirl magazine.

Most of Parvati's years at Hogwarts weren't all that eventful - yes, there was all that unpleasant business with Harry and the stone, Harry and that secret chamber, Harry and -- well, the list does go on. But in the end, none of it really concerned her, did it? It was a good bit of gossip for a few weeks, of course, but Parvati wasn't one who desired to live vicariously through Harry Potter; if anything, she was much more focused on finding out every detail of Britney Spears's latest rehab stint.

Of course, Parvati was a growing girl - and with growth, came maturity. She's since realised that Vogue is no longer a top priority: what matters now, in this chaotic world, is making sure her friends and family are safe. She's come to worry about Harry Potter, and even Hermione - with the events of the summer, she can't help but wonder what misfortune will befall them next.
