NAME: Priam Wincenty Avery Parkinson
DATE OF BIRTH: September 21, 1957.
PB: Federico Moyano.
JOURNAL: http://priam.scribbld.netMINUTIAE.PERSONALITY: Like any other middle-child, Priam developed a sense of fuck-all with many things in his life; he hardly takes anything seriously enough. With his education, he was bored with. Learning was a plus, sure, as was the prestige of an education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry but aside from the perks of the uniform, the House, and the fancy books, Priam didn't see the attraction in being caged ten months a year of quite a number of years of his childhood. With this opinion in mind, he had staged his defiance through a downright plummet of his grades. It was not that he was stupid--on the contrary, Priam regarded himself as a very clever and rather innovative individual--but instead, it became a case of dignity, pride, and adolescent stubbornness. The same attitude had applied to his social life and garden variety romance. He became imaginative with these particular ventures. Reckless and carefree, Priam became known amongst his brothers as the idiot when it came to women. Of course, his father had taught him many things about the art of love, dating, and the gentlemanly things one must observe to remain favourably masculine. However, as he was wont to do, Priam ended up disregarding all forms of guidance to instead create a game out of the whole notion of love affairs. Woman after woman--man after man, even--he explored various levels of foolery-et-fuckery with equally variable kinds of women, receiving slap after punch after humiliating dips, bumps, bruises. "All for the fun of it all," he would say to anyone who cared to listen.
Contrary to appearances however, Priam is quite capable of fulfilling many of his personal obligations. He had the ability to maintain his collection of broomsticks, all pristine, fully-functional, and worth quite a hefty amount of money. He also took good care of the pets he's had over the years: his dog Fahrenheit; his owl Tomlinson; his twin goldfish Gunter and Myles; as well as Aphod, a stray rat he plucked from somewhere underneath his four-poster bed at Hogwarts. It just so happened that Priam was also self-centered and, by proxy, friends-centered since (by Priam-inspired reason) friends were part of the self and vice versa and made sense in that aspect. In some way. The rebellion against other traditions and responsibilities only because he thought mostly of himself, the benefit of his own devices, and the general satisfaction of being submerged in a pool-sized ego. In short, Priam had the tendency to be a very selfish young man and despite his capacity to extend his compassion and sensitivity to other matters besides himself, there are times when Priam refuses to let such windows of uncharacteristic opportunity exist in his usual flow of things.
In regards to his family, Priam can be very appreciative. He liked people merely as people--walking, talking individuals with their points of view, their hobbies, their interesting lives, but his like for them stops there. He disliked them completely and absolutely the moment they intrude on his life. He appreciated other people's sense of humour, the fun their combined recklessness usually caused, the chaos that ensued more often than not, and their existence as a primary distraction from everything else that causes unnecessary stress.
MAGICAL STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: Usually favoring the hype of actual, in-action, out-on-the-field, prepped-and-ready-to-kick-arse type of magic, Priam had the tendency to favor spellcraft and and transfiguration over the long and tedious process of both potion-making and herbology. This, however, didn't mean that he was incompetent in either of his disliked forms of magic--in fact, he could raise quite the healthy mandrake sapling without
much help--but instead implied that Priam, like any witch or wizard, had good days and bad days, good moods and bad moods, and he just happened to feel a little prettier, a little more confident whilst uttering spells than brewing fancy bitter-water.
WAND: Thirteen-inches, mahogany, unicorn tail hair core, ideal for Transfiguration. Despite not finishing his school at Hogwarts, Priam manages to practice magic because of his father’s talented string-pulling. On top of that, he manages a Charm on his wand to remain Unseen by the Ministry whenever he performs any type of magic. He takes great care, however, not to show any form of wand-work too often in public.
APPEARANCE: Priam, with his usually self-centered disposition, gives his appearance a proper proportion of his time. Usually his hair would be neat—though neither overly slick nor strictly parted nor plastered and tame— but, instead, be a subdued and flexible mass on his head. His face is usually clear, never bearded; there was a time before his marriage to Priscilla when he cast Charms on his face to prevent five o’clock shadows. With clothes he kept in mind the propriety of the event, the day’s weather, etc. He was practical but generous with his splurges (which are few and far in between but always rather thorough and detailed). He prefers light robes and minimal “cloth-hangings” to the heavy dress robes many men usually wear. All in all, with a posture of ease and carefree fluidity, Priam gives off a casual air he had adapted (and maintained ever since) at Hogwarts to suit his equally casual, carefree lifestyle.
BACKGROUND.SIGNIFICANT DATES: STEPMBER 1968: First year at Hogwarts and sorted into Slytherin House.
APRIL-MAY 1974: Priam drops out of Hogwarts at the end of his fifth year to the disappointment of his parents. This, however, didn’t become much of an issue within the family and despite the small scandal that went with it, the Parkinsons eventually understood his situation.
SEPTEMBER 1974: Priam accompanies his father and older brother Timaeus in their travels around Europe. A passion for Quidditch is fuelled during a month-long stay at Germany, after watching innumerable national Quidditch games. Alongside this is the conception of a passion for broomsticks (and, eventually,
racing broomsticks) and the notion of collection and trade of high-quality wood.
NOVEMBER 6, 1975: Priam returns to England and moves in with his older brother Krasimir at a cousin’s old (but not
too old) home in Liverpool.
NOVEMBER 21, 1975: Priam works at the small tea shop his brother’s fiancée Louise opened near their home.
MARCH 1976: Priam is hired by the Ministry as a consultant for sports.
DECEMBER 1976: Founds a small yet fully-functional arena for broomstick racers somewhere north of Cardiff, Wales with brother Krasimir and older cousin Pontius Avery. In a few months’ time, it becomes a well-known facility for Quidditch enthusiasts.
JUNE 1977: Engagement to Priscilla Crouch (a former Ravenclaw), the younger sister of a very close friend.
MAY 1978: Collection of broomsticks reaches national acclaim by many sports enthusiasts, making him one of the more recognized young sports icons (who isn’t even an active athlete).
AUGUST 1979: Invited into the International Association of Quidditch.
OCTOBER 1979: Signs a sponsorship deal with Quidditch team
Wigtown Wanderers and it becomes his pet project for the next few years.
NOVEMBER 1979: Discovers that he has an illegitimate son to an old and long since forgotten love affair. Offers a settlement with the lady and permits his son Charles to carry the Parkinson name, who was already three years old by that time.
JANUARY 11, 1980: Marries Priscilla Crouch.
FEBRUARY 1981: Pansy Parkinson is born.
DECEMBER 1982: His brother Timaeus’ wife and brother-in-law (both Macnairs) are imprisoned for being Death Eaters.
MARCH 1984: Priam buys ownership of Quidditch team
Puddlemere United.
SEPTEMBER 1991: Pansy attends Hogwarts and is sorted into Slytherin.
ALLIANCE & PURISM: By default, Priam has been associated with the Pureblood faction of Wizarding society. His parents have both been Pure, as have been his predecessors several generations before him—mostly, at least. But what differentiated the Parkinsons from many other Pureblood families was the fact that they weren’t nearly as obsessive as others were when it came to Purity. Squibs weren’t necessarily killed simply for being thus; children weren’t disowned for marrying “the wrong people”; siblings, spouses, and cousins weren’t in murderous rampages against each other for choosing different lifestyles for themselves. Because of this, Priam had developed the awareness that such prejudices existed in society yet, all the while, retained his own opinion of them without fear of being estranged from his family. He knew full well how individuals are sometimes measured by the purity of their blood or the size of their Gringotts banks and he made no outward, aggressive act to bridge the gap between the factions that exist. (He who has always been immune to disillusionment, Priam understood the rationale beneath the futility of equality, justice, etc.) As for Voldemort, an older and much wiser Priam learned to remove himself from the Death Eaters’ societal territory—he made it a point to mind his own business and take everything in stride whilst keeping both himself and his name out of the reach of anything beyond his interest. Therefore, he observed neutrality during Voldemort’s wars, maintaining a respectable distance from them and, like many indifferent wizards, turned a blind eye towards the turmoil caused by him.
POTENTIAL RELATIONSHIPS: For the specific parts, there are his parents Phocas Parkinson and his wife Reinhilde Avery. Both have attended Hogwarts, Phocas a Slytherin and Reinhilde a Hufflepuff. Both were also children of rather well-off families. However, it is a well-known fact that Reinhilde was wealthier than her husband since the Averys have thrived long before the Parkinsons even managed a foothold over 19th century poverty. Also, Priam has a grand total of five other siblings. By order of age: Timaeus (born 1946); Krasimir (born 1949); Amalia (born 1954); Quintina (born 1961); and Yulian (born 1963). Generally, the older Priam was more involved in Wizarding media than politics, business, or education. He worked for various Quidditch teams, various broomstick-makers, various broomstick-wood-breeders (or whatever you call them really) and was generally the Parkinson most associated with sports and outdoor activities. Through this, he would have made friends, acquaintances, and well-taken cared of connections among athletes, musicians, actors (?), and other performing artists and sports icons. When it comes to society, he was never much into "digging really deeply" into the roots of all things traditional and held sacred by Elders of Wealthy Doom and such but he was considered to be rather flexible when it came to his socializing. For romance, he may have had quite a lot of misadventures--it would be a bit later on in life before he would find the future wife to father Pansy with--and none of the love affairs would last long enough to even make it to public gatherings and photo opportunities.
