[A Bit of the Old Ludwig Van |Insomnium - Change Of Heart]

God damnit, I'm so disappointed by my inability to write anything I like. I know everyone's their own worst critic, but I'm way too hard on myself. I spent an hour writing something on here, decided I didn't like it, and scrapped it. Grr.

The Grammys were tonight. Because apparently people actually give a shit about what a committee of dumbasses think is the best of the best in the music world. Same thing with the Academy Awards. Amazing films like The Dark Knight, Gonzo, and Tropic Thunder only get small nods, Gran Torino gets snubbed completely, yet stupid shit like The Reader, Slumdog Millionaire, Rachel Getting Married, and Revolutionary Road, which all got pretty shitty reviews, aside from Slumdog, but theres something about that movie that just pushes me away from it, are being hailed for being amazing films. Fucking asshats.

The premise of Slumdog Millionaire looks pretty cool. The story, from what I've heard, is great. Danny Boyle's an incredible director (28 Days Later, Trainspotting are the two first films that pop into my mind hearing his name), but I seriously think that it's being overblown. The Wrestler, The Visitor, and Frost Nixon, and even Milk, which some people didn't like, are incredible, yet everyone's making it out to seem like Slumdog Millionaire is just gonna shit all over everything and take home all the awards. The Dark Knight, which is nominated for Best Supporting Actor (Heath Ledger, who fucking better win that award. Best performance I've seen in a movie in a long time. One of the most iconic, probably ever), Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography. Nolan didn't get a nod for Best Director. No Best Adapted Screenplay. These people have no idea what they fuck they're talking about when it comes to good movies. The fucking Academy just doesn't want to acknowledge that a COMIC BOOK MOVIE was one of the best movies of the year, which is really pathetic, in my opinion. Last year was such a saving grace, as No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood got the big awards (Best Picture, Supporting Actor for NCFOM, Best Actor and a few others, including cinematography, for TWBB. Daniel Day Lewis is fucking UNREAL in that movie.)

I also heard Benjamin Button was really good. I just haven't jad a chance to see it.

Fuck the Academy. Fuck the Grammys. Fuck all those stupid award shows. They're full of shit. Probably rigged anyway.

[A Bit of the Old Ludwig Van |Lamb of God - Now You've Got Something to Die For]

So I think I had some kind of like, 24 hour virus type thing, because when I got out of bed this afternoon, I felt pretty good. I stayed at my parent's place last night, and opted not to go to class today, as a precaution, but by the time I left, I felt pretty good. I worked tonight, and got home and just relaxed, watched Goldfinger on TV. God, I miss Connery as Bond. I love Daniel Craig, and view him as second to only Connery, but damn. Connery was such a suave motherfucker. I'm sure he could still do it at his age now -_-.

I put together 32 of my favorite (currently) songs. I think I'm gonna post them in 2 parts online, so people can get a taste of what I'm into, and all that. It should be interesting.

I have work at 11 tomorrow, till 9. Then I'm off Sunday, due to a scheduling mix up, which is fine by me. I think Kyle's coming over, and we're gonna hang out, then Sunday probably go see Taken, because Liam Neeson's such a fucking badass. And probably get some drumming in, as well. I've been meaning to really test out the headphones I got for Christmas, so I'm gonna take them up with my iPod, and play along to most of the songs on that playlist I made, and see how well I'm doing. Haven't really played in a couple of months, due to countless parties in the attic, where the music equipment is. People think my drums are fucking toys when they're drunk, and they start pounding on them, which leads to me getting pissed, so I wound up just taking them apart and storing them in the corner with all the guitars and amps and such so no one fucks with them. As beat up and abused at those drums are, they're my pride and joy. I wish I had the money to properly take care of them. I need new drumheads, cymbals, drumsticks, cymbal stands... everything. Damn. Oh well. After Ireland I'm gonna start saving up to fix some stuff.

I'm off to bed soon. Probably gonna read a bit before I go to sleep.

[A Bit of the Old Ludwig Van |Bad Religion- Epiphany]

So I spent the morning in the hospital. Fun stuff.

Before I went to bed last night, I felt really sick. I wound up waking up a couple of times and throwing up, and when I woke up, I felt really drained and dizzy.. I called my doctor this morning, and she suggested going to the hospital, since there was a scare at school with a serious illness. After four hours of sitting in a bed with a big fucking needle in my arm, they told me nothing was seriously wrong, aside from a semi-nasty viral infection. So I'm not going to class tonight, and maybe not tomorrow either. I'm home at my parent's house for the night, just relaxing.

I'll post and actual update later. I might go nap or something.

Descend... )My god, I can't get over how beautiful this song is. I've seen it live twice, and especially hearing it live, and feeling it throughout my body and soul, even hearing the recorded version gives me such a chill. I love Machine Head.

Went for my MRI today to try and find out why I get migraines. Won't get the results till Thursday. I'm a little bit nervous.

I feel really drained today. I don't know why. I feel really worn out and miserable. I might go to bed early. God. That's a scary thought.

Maybe I'll update later. But this:

[A Bit of the Old Ludwig Van |Metallica - Master of Puppets]

So I woke up this morning with a raging headache, no voice, unable to move my head, or most of my body, for that matter. But it was so fucking worth it.

Ya know why? )

I can't find any more words to describe how unbelieveable it was. I also got a live download of the show, so I can relive it whenever I want. \m/

So thank you, Metallica.

[A Bit of the Old Ludwig Van |Marilyn Manson - Heart-Shaped Glasses (When The Heart Guides The Hand)]

So.... Metallica.... in T minus 18 hours. FUCK. YES.

Laura decided it was better if she didn't go. While I wanted her to go, in a way, because I wanted to at least maintain friendship, it's also better that she doesn't to avoid anything bad from happening. So I'm buying her ticket from her, and going with Fitzy. Mike, Danielle, Glen, and his sister are going, too. So it should be a wonderful time. I'm so excited. My first time seeing Metallica. Same for The Sword, but I've never really listened to them. This is also my second time seeing MACHINE FUCKIN' HEAD, who are absolutely AMAZING. I'm a little drunk, still. We just got done with an amazing session of Rock Band. We downloaded all these metal songs to go nuts to. I practiced "This Calling" by All That Remains, and "Blinded By Fear" by At The Gates on expert. 81% for ATR, and 73% for ATG. Pretty damn good, considering those are two of the hardest songs in the game. Drunk Rock Band is amazing.

I'm done rambling. Gonna go get some sleep. Need my energy for tomorrow.

[A Bit of the Old Ludwig Van |Sportscenter]

God damnit. I'm tired. I'm pissed. I'm ready to fucking snap at anyone.

I put up with loud, drunk, moderately violent roommates tonight. I had a couple of beers, but not as much as everyone else. Around 1:30, I told Mike I was going to bed, and asked him to keep the noise down. And I know he tried. He turned the TV down, since everyone was playing Rock Band 2, and the tv is right behind the wall that's behind my head when I sleep. I heard him telling people to be quiet. But NO ONE FUCKING LISTENED. HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT TO LOWER THE GOD DAMN VOLUME OF YOUR VOICE? <---- I appreciate some good irony.

So they finally stop playing, and people start leaving. Then, all of a sudden, there's about six different voices in the hall, right outside my door. Phil, who was/is HAMMERED, refused to crash here or have someone drive him home, demanding his keys and saying he was going to drive home. People almost kicked his ass. Including me. So then, the girls next door come home, raging drunk, and none of them have their keys, so they're sitting in the living room waiting for someone to let them in. And I have to be up for work in.... 6 hours. AWESOME.

Fuck.

[A Bit of the Old Ludwig Van |Light This City - The Anhedonia Epidemic]

I'm not sure if I find it ironic or downright pathetically funny, maybe both, when HBO says they "Take Comedy Seriously", and the only things they're advertising are Lisa Lampanelli, who is right on the bottom of my list, along with Dane Cook, of talented comedians, and Meet The Spartans. I mean... that's gotta be some prank or something, right? By saying the take comedy seriously, and advertising the two shittiest things they can think of?

Oh... dear god... they weren't kidding.

Fuck you, HBO. Fuck you.

[A Bit of the Old Ludwig Van |Clint Mansell - Winter: Lux Aeterna]

I reeeeeeally wanna take Clint Mansell's "Lux Aeterna" (from the Requiem For A Dream soundtrack) and put some drums to. Like, keep the song the same, just add something cool in the background. Don't get me wrong, the song's amazing the way it is, but for some reason, kinda like what Travis Barker did with those rap songs, putting real drums to it could expand on it a bit. I'm about to go and take some pictures of my kit, so I'll post those here.

[A Bit of the Old Ludwig Van |Flobots - Stand Up]

I never really updated about this the other night, even though I was so excited about it. Wednesday, Phil and Glen came over, and we jammed with Mike, which I guess could be considered a first like, official band practice. We worked on a song Phil wrote, just trying to get everything down, and putting drums to it. Here's Phil, playing the guitar part of the song, and the drums are pretty much what you hear in the video, just with a little more work put into them.

So yeah. We're gonna keep working on it next week.

I feel really sick, and I don't know why. I feel like I have a fever or something, and my stomach's been bothering me all morning. I'm gonna see how I feel before my class at 2. Might just rest until work.

[A Bit of the Old Ludwig Van |Disarmonia Mundi - Swallow the Flames]

Edit: Took it off. Didn't like it anymore. I'm too picky ><

On another note, I'm really looking forward to the Friday the 13th remake. As much as I HATEHATEHATEHATEHATEHATEFUCKINGHATE Michael Bay, I think the director (who also did the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake) captured the tone of the movies (at least the first 4, before it got all retarded and like, sci-fi ish) perfectly. The guy playing Jason looks to have it down perfectly. The body movements, the imposing presence, and the... fuck I dunno what else. Regardless of it starring a bunch of typical teen actors (Calling them actors is a compliment. From the look of the cast, they couldn't act their way out of a fucking wet paper bag), the fact that they're all getting butchered makes that fact a little bit sweeter.

I still haven't seen many of the big movies of the year that I wanted to. The Wrestler is at the top of my list, followed by Milk. I've heard amazing things about The Visitor, and it's coming to Starz or Max or whatever pretty soon. I'm really looking forward to watching it. I've also been watching Funny Games alot lately, since it's been on one of those channels. That movie is so... guh. Amazing. One of the best of the year, by far. Michael Pitt sure knows how to play a creepy bastard. And the actors/actresses are a huge improvement over the original. The wife in the 1997 version was fucking hideous. She looked like a zombie. Not saying it matters who played her, because the German actress in the original did a great job, in terms of her performance, but just.... blegh. Especially considering there's a scene where they make the wife strip in order to save her son's life.

I'm done rambling. Going to bed soon. Friday tomorrow. Joy. Class, work, home, pass out, work all day Saturday. Fucking weekends. I also have a mass comm project I have to do, which I haven't been keeping up on. Oh well. I'll bullshit it Sunday.

[A Bit of the Old Ludwig Van |Kanye West - Love Lockdown]

It's been a really rough week, but it's also been pretty good. Monday and Tuesday, I was getting really bad migraines, which really sucked. I get them from time to time, and when I get them, they're always pretty much crippling. I can't get out of bed, much less even really open my eyes because light hurts like hell. I got some medication for it, and I'm going for an MRI next week to figure out what's wrong. I did get to miss two days of class, though, so I guess it wasn't all bad. Wednesday was a snow day, so I got to just relax and play some video games and watch some movies. Today, after class, I came home and passed out for a good 4 hours. It was pretty nice. I walked home, and damn near killed myself on the ice.

I should be in class right now, but didn't feel like leaving the house again. It's freezing, and I have some work to do for 411mania.com, so I figured I'd get it done instead of leaving again.

The Metallica show is Sunday. I still haven't met with Laura to see if we can be around each other without emotions or anything getting in the way. I dunno what to do =(.

1. Metallica
2. Dethklok
3. In Flames
4. Marilyn Manson
5. Daft Punk
6. Pagoda
7. Aesop Rock
8. Amon Amarth
9. Oomph!
10. Ensiferum
11. The Doors
12. God Is An Astronaut
13. Nine Inch Nails
14. The Mars Volta
15. As I Lay Dying
16. Darkest Hour
17. The Sound Of Animals Fighting
18. Rob Zombie

21. Explosions in the Sky
22. Mogwai
23. Lupe Fiasco
24. Alestorm
25. 10 Years
26. Ice Cube
27. The Nightwatchman
28. Stone Sour
29. TV On The Radio
30. Anti Flag

1. How did you get into 29 (TV On The Radio)?
I read a review of their last album, Dear Science, on 411mania, and decided to check em out. They turned out to be amazing.

2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22 (Mogwai)?
Oh god... I think it was... Mogwai Fear Satan. Someone showed me that song and I was hooked.

3. How many albums by 12 (God Is An Astronaut) do you own?
Physically, none. But I have them all on my computer.

4. What is your favourite song by 5 (Daft Punk)?
Hm... their live version of Technologic. Or Robot Rock

5. What is your favorite song by 15 (As I Lay Dying)?
Either The Sound Of Truth or Reflection

6. Is there a song by 6 (Pagoda) that makes you happy?
A few. Lesson Learned, Death to Birth, and Botus always put me in a good mood.

7. What is your favourite song by 10 (Ensiferum)?
ONE MORE MAGIC POTION!!! That song is amazing. The lyrics are really funny, too.

8. What is a good memory you have involving 30 (Anti Flag)?
First time I got drunk in college, we listened to the Underground Network album, because it was all we had on CD at the time.

9. Is there a song by 19 (Incubus) that makes you happy?
Dig, for some reason. The lyrics are really personal to me. I love it.

10. How many times have you seen 23 (Lupe Fiasco) live?
Once. He played a show at my school at the end of Freshman year. He was AWESOME. Even though the atmosphere was terrible. All the kids who think they're the shit because they listen to like, Biggie and 2Pac came, and they were trying to act like thugs inbetween songs, and Lupe did a moment of silence, since this was right after the Virginia Tech shootings, and these kids were yelling, and he looked up and was like "Shut the fuck up please. Just get out. I don't want you ruining something like this". It was really funny, just because of the way he handled the situation.

11. What is the first song you ever heard by 26 (Ice Cube)?
My boss played me Robin Lench and Givin' Up The Nappy Dugout at work like, two years ago. At least, that's the first like, memorable stuff I heard by him.

12. What is your favourite album by 11 (The Doors)?
L.A. Woman, hands down.

13. Who is your favourite member of 1 (Metallica)?
Lars! He may be a dick sometimes, but he's one of the reasons I started playing drums. And Rob, just because of his crab walk LOL.

14. Have you ever seen 14 (The Mars Volta) live?
No, sadly. I heard they put on an amazing live show.

15. What is a good memory involving 27 (The Nightwatchman)?
None, yet. I've been listening to him alot at work lately. Something's bound to come up.

16. What is your favourite song by 16 (Darkest Hour)?
Aequitas, Veritas. It's such a beautiful instrumental piece.

17. What is your favourite album by 18 (Rob Zombie)?
I love Hellbilly Deluxe, because it's like... a horror movie in CD form, but I LOVE Educated Horses. I like the kind of retro feel to it.

18. What is your favorite song by 21 (Explosions In The Sky)?
Hm... I'd have to go with Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean. It's so beautiful and like... guh. I dunno.

19. What is the first song you ever heard by 25 (10 Years)?
Wasteland, just because it was their first single, and it was before I got really into them.

20. What is your favourite album by 2 (Dethklok)?
The Dethalbum. Sadly, that's my only option.

21. What is your favourite song by 3 (In Flames)?
Damn that's tough. I think it's My Sweet Shadow.

22. What is your favourite song by 8 (Amon Amarth)?
Cry of the Blackbirds!

23. How many times have you seen 17 (The Sound of Animals Fighting) live?
NONE =(. They like, don't play live or something.

24. What is the worst song by 12 (God Is An Astronaut)?
I don't think they have a bad song. Lol, seriously. All their shit is magnificent.

25. What was the first song you ever heard by 28 (Stone Sour)?
Bother. That song hits me so hard every time I listen to it.

26. What is your favourite album by 7 (Aesop Rock)?
Labor Days. I love the concept of the album and every song is GOLD. And right up there with it is the Daylight EP. Again, total fucking gold. Th man's a genius.

Real update a bit later. Just got home from class, eating lunch, relaxing, etc.
