The knock comes on the door. "Sammy?"
Talk about timing. Maybe it was an unconscious hint on her part that she was always in at state of undress when he knocked on her door.
She grabbed a towel to wrap around her and opened the door. Peering around it, she smiled brightly and promptly began issuing orders. "Come in, sit down, don't freak."
"Don't freak...?" he asks, a little confused, but he starts to come in... and then he sees her wrapped in the towel and freezes momentarily.
"Don't freak," Sammy repeated. She dragged him in and closed the door behind him. "Breathe. I'm running late, I'm sorry, and if it were you in the towel I'd be volunteering for soap duty." She grinned and nudged him toward a seat. "Honest, just a couple a minutes and I'll be out."
After a moment of staring, he abruptly looks towards the ceiling. "Um... okay. I'll... have a seat." He almost tries to look her in the face, then decides he can't really trust himself with that, and he looks back to the ceiling even as she nudges him towards a seat.
Yeah, her ceiling was so interesting. She was going to develop an inferiority complex any second now.
"There's a file on my desk that I pulled for you to read. New job title, new security clearance. Take a look while I'm getting ready."
"Okay," he says, still looking at the ceiling. The ceiling is so much better. It means that he won't be tempted to look... um... elsewhere. Anywhere. Respecting her space is a good thing.
She made a face he didn't see, took the towel off and draped it over his head so intently studying the joys of helicarrier construction. before disappearing into the adjoining bathroom. "Enjoy your reading."
....eeep.
He waits until he hears the bathroom door close, or at least the water running, before he peeks out from under the towel, and begins to look over the file.
Oh. Moon Knight.
Suddenly, something else has his attention.
Ten minutes later and dressed, Sammy opened the bathroom door to see Qamar still immersed in the file. Since he was so well occupied she took a moment to put on some makeup and comb her damp hair again. Find her shoes. Dab perfume on her pulse points.
Glare at the ceiling.
"Is there anything helpful in the file?" she finally asked.
He was almost in another world when he heard her voice.
"Yes, I..." he says, glancing up, and then back to the file... and then looking back again.
"I... um... you're... beautiful," he breathes.
She smiled at him. Clothes. He looked at clothes. Well, it could be worse. "Thanks. Did you want to finish the file now, or can it wait until we get back? I don't mind if you do. I was hoping it might help answer some of your questions."
He glances at the file, then back at her. "The file's not going anywhere. You, on the other hand, are going out for dinner and dancing, and it would be very foolish of me to not join you."
"No one can accuse you of being foolish."
He offers his arm. "Shall we?"
She took his arm. "I've been looking forward to tonight all week." |
