If anything could make Sammy speechless, this would be it. Speechless, unsure her ears heard him right, and hope filling her that he'd really said it. Barriers, limitations, and muggers. It had to be a charmed combination.
She bit her bottom lip before asking, "Would you repeat that?"
"...I disturbed you with that," he winces. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything..."
"No, it's just..." Oh hell. She grabbed his jacket lapels for balance and kissed him.
Surprised at first, he melts into the kiss, warming to her as he does so.
When the kiss finally breaks, he repeats himself very softly.
"I love you."
She kissed him again, soft and lingering. "I love you."
His heart leaps into his throat with those words, and he can't help but smile.
He returns the kiss while hugging her, while one of the muggers begins to regain consciousness at his feet, moaning in pain.
"Come on. Let's go." He gives the mugger a kick to knock him back out until the police arrive, then offers Sammy a hand to escort her out of the park.
"I really enjoyed tonight," Sammy told him. She felt like cheering but kept it down to a bubbling glee. "In case I forget to say it in the morning, thank you for a lovely evening." | |
