GENERAL
NAME: Padma A. Patil
AGE: Seventeen
HOUSE/YEAR: 12th Year Ravenclaw.
SOCIAL STATUS: Not quite the creme de la creme of the aristocratic society circles, there is no doubt in anyone's mind that the Patil family is a force to be reckoned with by surname alone.
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual.
APPEARANCE
Padma, while in many ways identical to her twin sister, also has several differences that tend to help the general student population differentiate between them. First, Padma is approximately an two and a half inches taller than her sister, putting her at 5'3 1/2''. Because of the height differences, Padma tends to pay more attention to the way she carries herself than her sister might. Her head always seems to be perfectly centered between her shoulders, and there isn't a student outside the Ravenclaw Girl's dormitory that's seen her in a slouch. Her skin color is also a shade or two darker than Parvati's. Subtle, but more along the lines of her mother's direct Indian heritage over her father's slightly lighter skin tone.
Padma is very comfortable with her body type. She'd probably never earn her way in to movie roles or a modeling career, but she is quite happy with how things look. On average she tends to have a bit more flesh on her lower half, her torso being cut well enough for someone who doesn't stick to a regular (or balanced) diet and never exercises (in short, completely relying on teenage metabolism to get by). She lacks muscle tone, and there would be no doubt that she would have something of a "muffin top" if she tried to squeeze in to pants that were a size too tight. Below belly button level is a bottom that is the only thing Padma isn't entirely as pleased as she should be with. Apparent and not quite as small as she would like it to be, she has what would be her mother's genes developing on her backside. Her fingers are shorter than one might expect for a girl who is just above the average height, but her feet make up for this. Padma has, what she believes to be, quite large feet, which she finds terribly strange given the small statute of her legs. Though, despite what she thinks, the rest of the world tends to view her as quite proportional.
Clothing tends to fall in to the range of her house colors. Lots of blues and bronze tones. She isn't a fan on anything without sleeves, so even in the summertime she always sports clothing that would be deemed more than appropriate back at school. She is, however, tending to buy shorts in surplus these days. She doesn't mind the lack of coverage on her legs, as they tend to be warmer than the rest of her body for some reason. However, no matter the season or what she may be wearing, Padma always has something on her feet. From socks, to actual shoes she doesn't like the feeling of her bare feet on the floor. Most of her clothing is of a loose fit. Even her tee shirts have the feel that they've been stretched out and used. Padma has one pair of jeans that she tends to wear over and over again. Though, if you asked Padma to describe her fashion she'd say "Comfort, which is key". Anyone who's ever borrowed a shirt from the girl has agreed so, too. In fact, Padma's clothes are so comfortable at times she manages to fall asleep in them.
DESIRED PB: That Getty girl Parvati's player uses.
PERSONALITY
Case in point, Padma is a pretty relaxed individual. It's difficult to get her over the edge angry, but not too hard for a bit of blunt sarcasm. Her humor is dry. Some of that dry humor seems to be a bit too dry for the rest of the student masses, which is probably why she likes to keep that side of herself hidden more often than not. A keen observer, she embodies the art of people watching like a second nature. Conversations are met with listening ears and short responses, especially to those outside of her friendship circles. She's pretty good at reading people, but in the same sense tends to over analyze things. Within the first few moments of meeting Padma has already determined whether or not she likes you. She doesn't like to think she's wrong, but there have been occasions where first appearances were not everything.
Any Ravenclaw house member wouldn't deny that Padma is quite intelligent, but they also wouldn't deny that once you get to know the girl she tends to come around quite easily when she is familiar with you. Her fellow Ravens who see her on a day to day base see a more open Padma. Still reserved, but not so in an insanely uptight manner. She thinks before she speaks, which often causes a delayed reaction from her which could be construed as apathetic, or just plain silly. Padma typically never means it that way, though there have been occasions where she has used this known trait about her to delay the moment so she can think of the best way for her to react to any given situation.
As far as academics are concerned, Padma tries. She takes the effort to stay after class and rewrite any given essay seven times over to reach the point of virtually no mistakes. Trying, of course, being the key word. She's very focused on her studies. She has a particular interest in human biology because of the technical lab work, but finds many of her business courses just as interesting. If anything, Padma aspires to be a doctor after school - quite possibly having her own private practice when she is much older. But she isn't positive that's how she wants to end up, and the fact that she's indecisive about this one, final important issue bothers her to a decent extent.
Padma's biggest fear after leaving school is not her career, it is her personal life that she worries about more than all. More specifically, the fear of her mother being more intrusive than usual. When you family has been well bred for so many generations, and having only two granddaughters (great granddaughters for some of the older existing members of said lines) to show for your legacy, both of which have dated outside of their "social class". Naturally Padma's parents are hardly concerned about political affiliation, but there is no secret that they would very much prefer both of their girls in a financially stable environment. Along with other things, Padma puts a lot of hope on the idea that their mother will bypass her oldest twin and set her sights (read: claws) on Parvati for marrying first. Or, if this is not possible, perhaps Prathna could get the mummy's little bride treatment before her. She's had her share of ex boyfriends. Not nearly as much as some, but over the years at School she has acquired the interest of a few. And she only went for looks the first time around. She'd be the first to admit that in the beginning when the dating world was new to her she went a little off the boy crazy boat. Crushes were more frequent than boyfriends. This upcoming year having a relationship is an interest, but not an entirely strong one.
DEFINING CHARACTERISTICS
By all accounts Padma was predispositioned to spend her life behind a stack of books and a list of variables in her lab work. The chips seem to fall that way in terms of her personality as she was brought up and interests, but that simply is not the case. While it's true that she certainly enjoys her studies to a certain extent, she prefers her social connections to any mixture of academic interests any day. She can partially blame this on her more social twin, but the fact of the matter is Padma is a hands on learner who even likes a little time in the spotlight. She has a bit of pride about her that is undeniable, and much like her Gryffindor counterpart she favors her stubborn side from time to time in the ways of proving that she is correct in doing so. Less unsightly traits aside, Padma is the dry humor, delayed reaction, set in her routine please don't congest the hallways I'd really hate to take away house points from you fine fellows essence to the Ravenclaw house.
LIKES
Her Slippers, The Nervous System (when studying), Foreign Films (Kung Fu Asian flicks, specifically), Flowering Tea, Solid Colors, Horses, Small Animals, Chess, Being right.
DISLIKES
Most yogurt, Tuna, Glitter, Romantic Comedys, Neon Colors, The scar on her arm from the toaster oven, Jack in the Boxes, Mosquitoes.
INSIDE SCOOP
1. Despite her relatively spotless transcript as far as school marks are concerned, Padma cannot take tests. She spends days studying and tries to cram the night before, but as soon as the blanks start to accumulate, they mirror this effect in her head. Padma seemingly bears this burden alone, though. She never asks for help from anyone, and if it's ever brought up you can almost guarantee whatever comes out of her mouth will be less than truthful. 2. Even though the title of Head Girl has been trumped by the mere presence of Hermione Granger in her year, Padma still believes that she has an honest shot at it. 3. Padma has a certain taste for ugly shoes. More specifically, ugly and cheesy slippers. She owns approximately twenty four pairs of different ones, ranging from the uber-fuzzy moon and stars classic to the ones that make you look like you have duck feet. Her favorite pair hails from the monsterfeet collection. 4. She does her Human Biology homework best when ever she's listening to that pop Parvati keeps in her CD player.
HISTORY
Padma wasn't born poor. Actually, she and her twin were quite the opposite from birth. While the surprise of twin girls wasn't something the couple had anticipated, they were welcomed in to the family with as much love from their parents as they received from the immediate members of the rest of their family. That wasn't where the surprises ended, either. Instead of falling in to the same routine that many other parents did with the onset of multiple children by grouping the two together, Padma and Parvati had relatively separate relationships with their parents. Padma, as a staple, tends to be closer to her father, but gets along with her mother just as well. But even at a young age Padma and her father shared a mutual understanding (which has grown to respect) for one another. She was most talkative around Parvati, most active and willing to go along with her twin more than she might have had she not shared a womb with the girl for nine months. Adults, aside from her parents, she tended to avoid. Yet despite her quiet nature around adults, having a twin proved to be quite beneficial to her motor skills. In a setting with children she was well known as the mediator. Solving fights that arose and always lending a hand. To children of a younger age she was a mother figure, and they so rightly flocked to her. This notion of having say in how someone acted at her young age was empowering, and as she grew in to childhood she merged in to a bossy edge with the little ones. Anger didn't strike, but hearing Padma out before anything was done was usually made appoint. With older children Padma tended to let Parvati do a lot of the talking. When Prathna was born Padma wasn't quite sure what to make of her at first. As the three of them aged Padma tried to impress her influence on her obviously talented younger sibling. However, the two of them clashed on several issues (such as the fact that Prathna could hardly sit still, and always seemed to lose Padma's quiet games). She gave up at some point between the ages of eight and nine, and has never looked back since. Though, she figures now that having two high spirited sisters has probably made her out to be a better person that she might have been in the company of completely like minds. That was until Hogwarts College had put Padma into Ravenclaw, and Parvati in to Gryffindor. Being first alphabetically through first name (an interesting twist their mother had put on her firstborn), her new house had left her with a sinking feeling. There was no way they'd put the brash Parvati in to Ravenclaw just to appease her sister. Turned out she was right in thinking so, as off to the lion's den she went.. along with her new found friend, Lavender. Over the course of the next two weeks, Padma sent letter after letter home bound, begging to have her mother take her home. When they returned answered in a very prompt "No", Padma gave in to the idea that she'd have to bear the burden of going through the year without her sister. And, it wasn't entirely as awful as she thought it would be. Padma came home over Christmas holiday with an eagerness to return back to school, the same feeling carrying over from the summertime of her first year. She found herself making friends easily in her own house, and not seeing Parvati as often as she would like didn't sting quite so much when you were in the company of like minded people. Yet, Parvati had not disappeared from her influential position entirely. During their fourth year, just when Padma was beginning to settle in to the idea of finding a date, Parvati set her up with Ron Weasley to the Yule Ball. Padma had never met him, or Harry up until this point face to face, though later she would guess as to why they were never properly introduced. At first she was against the idea of going with Ron, but always persuaded by Parvati she reluctantly agreed. Ron turned out to be a pretty lousy date, especially given the sulking factor. When things didn't lighten up, she went alongside Parvati and found two nice Beauxbaton boys who were quite interested in catching the last few slow dances. Padma continued to see her date off and on for the rest of the school year, but hasn't heard from him since. Speaking of Relationships, it was during the transition from her third to fourth year that Padma had her first real boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. The boy was a fifth year, and quite the handsome one. But Padma would be the first to realize looks didn't make the man entirely. After sixth months of shallow dating, Padma broke it off and left herself with a very peeved ex that avoided all friendly contact with her until leaving school. Her fourth and fifth years were spent discovering the interests of beginning to personalize her class list. She picked up business courses, and a Biology class. This later turned in to Human Biology, which gave her a real career option with something she enjoyed. After her fourth year Padma had decided to some extent that working in the medical field would be interesting. And, if that didn't work out, she would always have those business classes she stuck with as a fall back.
