BASICS NAME: Clémence Marie Vaisey. AGE & BIRTHDAY: Fifteen, 9 May 2006. HOUSE & YEAR: Slytherin, Fifth. SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Heterosexual. BIRTHPLACE: Coventry, West Midlands, England.
FAMILY PARENTS: Nikolas Vaisey & Tabitha Rivers. SIBLINGS: Léa Vaisey (16). BLOODLINE: Halfblood. SOCIAL STATUS: Nouveau riche, due to Nikolas' pro Quidditch career. FAMILY SITUATION: Though the relationship between Nikolas and Tabitha is completely dysfunctional, everyone expected that they would end up married because they were nearly perfect for each other. Their fights were legendary, and often caused by the silliest of things. The fights lessened a bit ever since Nikolas went into professional Quidditch, allowing Tabitha to live off his money without worry, and it is painfully obvious that neither of them were well-equipped to be parents. Parental neglect and constant favouritism run rampant in the Vaisey household.
THE LOOK PHYSICAL: Clémence is prone to using lots of adjectives - most of them in French - to describe herself to anyone and everyone. In reality, Clémence is a cute girl but there is something hard about her features; most of her prep time in the morning is spent trying to make her nose look softer and her lips look fuller. In terms of overall appearance, however, Clémence is generally unremarkable. She has dark brown eyes and her skin has a constant rosy glow to it because she has a certain fondness for skincare. Clémence's least favourite feature by far is her hair - she has a full head of dark brown, curly locks that reaches halfway down her back. She knows that she could do something about the hair if she wanted to, but Clémence loves having something to complain about, and her hair provides her that opportunity on a daily basis. DRESS: When it comes to clothing, Clémence truly believes that 'less is more.' While at school, she is guilty of rolling her skirt to make it shorter; when out of uniform, she never covers her legs if she can help it. Not even cold weather can stop her from showing off what she considers to be her greatest assets. Throw in a good pair of chunky heels and Clémence is set for life. She also has a passion for bright, gaudy costume jewelry and she wears it with nearly every outfit. PB: Tamsin Egerton.
THE GIRL Give me MORE! NOW! RIGHT NOW! There is something distinctly disturbing about Clémence - it's the fact that her entire aura screams "NOTICE ME!", from the clothes she wears to the way she speaks to the constant, incredibly loud volume of her voice. Clémence is the girl who will do absolutely anything to be noticed - she would jump in front of a moving vehicle if it were going to make front-page headlines in the newspaper the next day. Clémence is also the girl who has no problems with resorting to underhanded methods to get her way - and Clémence absolutely must have her way, or you'll never hear the end of it. If Clémence wants something, she will have it, even if it takes murdering a small child to get her there. Of course, Clémence would never resort to actually murdering anyone to get her way, but it shows that she is willing to do whatever it takes to reach the top, and she has absolutely no problem with doing her own dirty work if someone proves too squeamish or, even worse, too moral to do it for her.
Once Clémence has laid claim to something, she generally thinks of it as hers - even if it isn't. She has a tendency to get unreasonably attached to people and things, and she's incredibly possessive. She even labels every single thing she owns with a sparkly 'CLEMENCE,' just so to make sure that people know they'd better not touch something she owns. One very particular thing about Clémence is that she rarely, if ever, strives for material gain - it's status she wants. She has laid out a plan for her future well in advance, and it goes something like this: Prefect, Head Girl, THE WORLD. And if she has to make a few people cry, damage a few reputations, and kill a few small animals in order to get these things, then Clémence believes she is fully prepared to take on the challenge.
Clémence is also completely unapologetic in the way she goes about doing things. It's rare that she tries to pretend she's something she's not, and if there is anyone out there who thinks that Clémence is a nice girl, they must have been dropped on their head as a child. Simply put, Clémence is not a nice girl. She greatly enjoys laughing at other people's misfortunes and has no trouble telling a person what she truly thinks of them. This is partially because she finds it easier to be noticed if she makes it a point to antagonise anyone and everyone - it's also a severe point of contention with her mother, who would rather that Clémence at least try to be nice some of the time. This particular personality trait also makes it a bit difficult to find friends. Clémence is so used to not having many true friends that she has become very self-reliant, and she generally expects everyone to realize this. Those who try to offer her help, be it in schoolwork or with some serious life problem, will find themselves on the receiving end of a loud, angry diatribe.
Perhaps it comes with being the youngest child, or perhaps it comes with being her mother's favourite, but Clémence has always been under the impression that not only does she have to be noticed, but she deserves to be noticed. This impression isn't completely unwarranted - the value of hard work has been instilled in her by her mother, and not only is Clémence hardworking but she's also intelligent. However, there comes a point where one takes something too far, and Clémence has reached and completely passed that point in terms of the way she thinks of herself. Of course, there are her moments of weakness - though most people see her as a psychotic, heartless bitch, and though she often is a psychotic, heartless bitch, she has a strong desire for approval. It's completely at odds with the way she is, which is why Clémence tries to suppress it as much as possible - she can't have people thinking that she'd like to be a nice person sometimes, can she? Thus, one might find that Clémence is meanest to those she cares about the most.
LIKES: the colour pink, obnoxious costume jewelry, singing, Léa, French, the proper pronunciation of her name (it's CLAY - mahnce), being in charge, chocolate, CAPITAL LETTERS, winning, text messaging, male friends (girls are too much competition), perfume. DISLIKES: Incredibly nice people, surprises, rowdy parties, not being the center of attention, messes, sports, cooking, sleeping in, books that are over two hundred pages because it takes much too long to get to the point, her hair, children, eating too much, cold cuts.
THE PAST HISTORY: The birth of the wonderful and incredibly talented and gorgeous Clémence Vaisey was a birth that was celebrated throughout all of England. At least, this is how Clémence assumes that her birth was celebrated, even if she is told time and time again that there was no great fanfare and that her parents very nearly groaned when they realized that they would have to deal with two infant girls - and sometimes three, for Tabitha could often resort to childish measures to get her way with Nikolas - in the house at the same time. Though no one was exactly thrilled to pieces with the arrival of Clémence, it is at least fortunate that she was born right into the lap of luxury - her father's lucrative Quidditch career allowed her mother to spend most of her time at home with cucumber slices over her eyes, directing the nanny to play with the children with a wave of her hand as she sipped on cocktails and tried to get a tan in spite of everything. Of course, all this time spent rolling about on the floor as a child allowed Clémence to become very close with her older sister, Lea, and to this day the two of them have a good time plotting and planning - they make an excellent team.
Clémence would describe her childhood as a whirlwind of private tutors, playdates with other rich children, and shopping trips with her darling mother. In reality, her childhood was significantly more boring. There were a few private tutors here and there, and the playdates with other rich children were typically cut short when Clémence stole the other child's toy, shouting "I CLAIM THIS DOLL...FOR CLEMENCE!", and Tabitha would never dare let her children hinder her on a shopping trip, even if it was her beloved youngest daughter. The Vaisey children were rather spoiled growing up, a fact that Clémence always conveniently leaves out for some reason when recounting the tale of her glorious childhood - they were never really taught the word 'moderation,' and this played a huge part in the sense of entitlement that Clémence has to this very day.
The year that Clémence spent by herself, when Lea went off to Hogwarts, was quite possibly the loneliest year of Clémence's life - but Clémence would never describe it as such, because that is much to cheesy and sappy and altogether too sentimental. Though she wrote her older sister nearly every day, it was also around this time that Clémence became very close to her mother - after all, she needed some sort of older female figure in her life, and she certainly wasn't going to turn to the nanny for comfort. The relationship has since been strained, due to Clémence's going to Hogwarts the next year and getting older, but Clemence will always consider her mother to be her favourite parent. Just don't tell anyone. Clémence's relationship with her father has always been strained, for reason she can't really understand (nor does she really want to) - all she knows is that the two of them don't see eye-to-eye on very much and that one of her greatest desires is to annoy him to no end.
Though it was completely expected, it was still a relief when Clémence was sorted into Slytherin - for both Clémence and her parents. She rejoiced at the chance to spend more time with her sister, and she had wanted nothing more than to be among those who wore the illustrious green and silver. Even as a child, Clémence had never been the easiest girl to get along with, but it was during her first year at Hogwarts that she began to show her true colours. She didn't even attempt to make friends with people outside of her house, thinking them all so very beneath her eleven-year-old self, and not much has changed in her four years at Hogwarts. Now that she is entering her fifth year, and now that she is ready to enter into her first year as a Prefect, Clémence is sure that this is the year that everyone will realize what a force of nature she is and bow down at her feet the minute she sets foot into the Great Hall.
INSIGHT WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S GREATEST FEAR? Vulnerability, and to a lesser extent, weakness. Clémence does care about people, but she's afraid to show it because any sign of caring about another human being automatically becomes a sign of weakness. She can't stand it in others and she especially cannot stand it in herself - her mother might casually hint that crying every once in a while makes men do things they otherwise wouldn't, but in Clémence's opinion crying makes one look like an absolute fool. She takes very good care to make sure that people think she's nothing but a psychotic, heartless bitch, and she will protect this image of herself to the death.
WHAT IS HIS OR HER MOST DEFINING CHARACTERISTIC? Clémence's most defining characteristic by far is the fact that she is completely obnoxious. But this doesn't mean that she is especially crude or classless - quite the opposite, actually, as Clémence would never even dream of uttering a four-letter word and she considers herself to be the epitome of class. However, Clémence is simply loud - her voice borders on high and screechy, and she is always speaking at unnecessarily loud volumes. She commands attention as soon as she enters a room, either by yelling "CLEMENCE IS ICI - THAT'S 'HERE' EN FRANCAIS, YOU KNOW," or by simply striking a pose until someone notices that she is blocking the doorway. Clémence refuses to be anything other than in your face.
TO THIS DAY, WHAT STANDS AS HIS OR HER BIGGEST SECRET OR REGRET? Clémence truly regrets not making and keeping more friends. As hard as she tries to pretend that she doesn't need anyone else, and that anyone who doesn't want to be her friend is clearly in the wrong and it's really their loss if they want to go cry over something she's said, she cannot escape feeling just a little bit lonely when she sees other people her age surrounded by a huge crowd of adoring friends. Fortunately for her she still has a bit of time to redeem herself and reach out to people, should she want to. However, Clémence often doesn't really even want to reach out to people - it's just too tiring, and she finds that being mean to people is so much easier than searching for a reason to be nice to them.
IN A PERFECT WORLD, WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER ENVISION FOR HIS OR HER FUTURE SELF? Herself at the very top of the social pecking order, flanked by people who listen to her because they are severely afraid of her and perhaps even one or two people who listen to her because they actually like her. She would also have access to the best of the best, and she would never have to want for anything again - everything would come handed to her on the shiniest of silver platters.
