Antlions create a conical trap in soil not unlike Star Wars’ notorious sarlacc pit, trapping ants on an unstable slope and dragging them to their doom. Entomologists at the University of Illinois in Urbana studied the ants’ unlikely defense mechanism with high-speed video, and the results are incredible.
