Developers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology have invented a system that uses a smartphone to map a person’s face and create a dynamic, digital avatar. A user takes photos of different angles of their face and then records a short video of their facial expressions to create a digital double that could be used in a variety of environments, like gaming or virtual reality meetings. It can yawn, smile, and frown realistically, and even accurately detail the wrinkles on skin.
