APPEARANCE: Standing at 5'6, she's a little above average in height for her age and she has a relatively slim frame. Her dark brown hair hangs past her shoulders and she has a beautiful smile and deep brown eyes.
She tends towards the "cute" with her style of dress. T-shirts with animals or cute sayings on them, skirts that are cute but not too short, adorable little dresses when she wants to dress up. She tends to wear flats, but she'll put on some heels if she wants to feel more attractive and less girls next door. Overall, though, she doesn't think she's usually what comes to mind when you think of "sexy." PLAYED BY: Amelia Warner

DETAILED PERSONALITY: First and foremost, Melia is completely and utterly devoted to her family. Well, that's not entirely accurate. Melia is completely and utterly devoted to her older brother. The rest of her family means a great deal to her but it doesn't compare to the relationship she has with Zak. He's the only person she's certain she cannot live without. Not that she intends to spend the rest of her life under his feet. She knows that, one day, she'll have to grow up and start a life of her own. For now, she's living in the moment.
While the girl does know how to have fun, she's a bit of a homebody. She's quite happy puttering around the house, specifically in the kitchen. Marriage is easily the furthest thing from her mind but, one day, she'll make a very good wife. After all, she has the perfect temperament for it.
Growing up in the south has left her a little more sheltered that most girls her age. She's innocent in most ways and too naive for her own good.
Melia is loyal and compassionate. She has a great sense of humor and is very tenacious. Once she has her heart set on something, there's no dissuading her. She is the take charge type. At least, when it comes to work. If she sees that something needs to be done, she'll get to it. Which is why she often finds herself working around Zak's shop when she'd originally come with the intention of just hanging out for a few hours.
A few of her less than positive traits... Like most girls her age, Melia can be quite moody. Her emotions do swing violently and she often uses them to her advantage without trying. After all, she's not the type to intentionally manipulate anyone. Needless to say she can, upon occasion, be a little oversentimental. A sappy movie, a romantic novel... it's not unusual to catch her crying over these things. On top of that, she can be a little clingy, especially when it comes to her older brother.
HISTORY: Melia was born on June 30, 1990 into your average die-hard Catholic family. She was the younger of the Ridley children and that suited her just fine. Zak was an amazing older brother. Honestly, amazing doesn't really cover it. He was patient, attentive, and caring... more so than your average older brother. Most of Melia's early memories involve him in some way or another. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that he has made more of an impression on her life than either of their parents.
Her childhood has been mostly uneventful. At the age of five, she broke her arm while trying to master the art of riding a bicycle without training wheels. Usually, her older brother would have been there to catch her but she'd decided to give it a try before he'd gotten home from school.
Three years later, her parents divorced. The divorce didn't bother her as much as it probably should have. From her perspective, not much changed in her life. Sure, she didn't see her mother nearly as often but she still had Zak and, as far as she was concerned, that was all she needed.
It was difficult for her when her big brother went off to college but she put on a brave face and wished him the best of luck. After all, it wasn't as if he could postpone his education. Even at the age of eleven, she understood that. She missed him horribly, though, and spent quite a bit of time in her room as she mourned his sudden absence. It got easier with every passing year, of course, but that didn't keep her from wishing she could follow.
Recently, she's gotten her wish. Her father has shipped off to Iraq and while that isn't the most amazing thing, ever, it's meant that she's gotten the chance to move to Chicago and in with her big brother. Ever the optimist, Melia is focusing on the positives of that situation rather than thinking about what could happen to her father while he's overseas.
