It's an established track, not random riding in the desert - which would have been illegal. Nevada has quite a few laws in effect to protect our desert ecosystems, and I wouldn't have wished to violate any of them. Brush grows a couple meters outside of the railing in some places, but I assure you there hasn't been anything growing in the actual lanes for years.
