Cassie didn't get up right away. In fact, she didn't do anything right away.

She wiped away the tears from her eyes- or at least tried to as they were quickly replaced.

Maybe whoever it was would go away. Probably not. She just didn't want to talk to anyone right now. She didn't think she could even say anything that sounded remotely intelligible.
