The whereabouts of the Merridew family still remain in question. While Aurors did not find remains in the house, they are still unsure whether it is due to the family not being in the house at the time of the fire, or that the Aurors were simply unable to recover them.

“The house was burned all they way to the ground. There isn’t much left of anything,” states an Auror on the scene. “Though that doesn’t mean they aren’t alive,” he goes on to add hastily. “We’re fairly confident that they simply escaped, and are still in hiding.”

The Ministry, while confident that the family will soon emerge, urges the public to come forward with any information about the Merridew whereabouts or conditions. A party consisted of Aurors has been created solely for the search of this family.
