Entry tags:kendall broadmoor, rose knightley, thomas mccormack

Who: Kendall Broadmoor, Rose Knightley & Thomas McCormack
What: BIRTHDAY RELATED THINGS!
Where: Cafe! Flat! Field! SO MANY PLACES SO LITTLE TIME!
When: Now!
Status: Finishing in Comments!

If Kendall was being honest and not at all modest, he was quite impressed with himself (and Rose) for the massive amount of planning that went into Thomas’ birthday and he was still not the wiser. Yes, he was suspicious, but then again, when was he not. Especially around his birthday.

He chewed on the nail of his thumb as he looked over the itinerary he drew up one more time as he waited for Rose to show. Everything was in place. The only obstacle that remained was actually getting Thomas out of his house and to the portkey on time. Kendall was heavily relying on the fact that one can not complain while spending one’s birthday with friends, especially when said friends put so much effort (and money, let's be honest) and time into planning, as technically today was his birthday and Kendall really hadn’t anything to acknowledge it other than a quick Happy Birthday via journal.

But yes, this was either going to be awesome and the best birthday surprise trip ever, or well--- no Kendall wasn’t even going to think of the other option, because that was not going to happen. He looked up as the chair across from him was pulled out. “About time you showed up, you are very nearly late. Almost had to think of a plan b.” he said with a wry smile.

Rose fell down into the chair, throwing her coat down with a bit more force than necessary. She hadn’t planned on being late, when was she ever late?! Never! Exactly! Everything, as always, had been on time until she had gone over to Octavius’ to say goodbye and--- poof! Time lost to a hot (in all the wrong ways) exchange that ended with no snogging and an icy send off. It left her feeling incredibly frustrated, the hence hint of sourness still apparent on her face.

“Sorry,” she replied shortly, crossly. Taking a bit longer to arrive to the cafe would have calmed her mind, but apparation left little time to do anything slowly. So-- so--- she needed to compose herself.

“Sorry,” Rose said again, shaking her head. Tonight was the beginning of not worrying about frustrations and anxieties, a well deserved celebration! It-- there was nothing she could do now, not for a while. So--- she dropped her shoulders, and took a deep breath. A deep, expelling breath that once exhaled, made things seems a bit better.

“I’m fine. I’m ready,” she asserted, reaching to pick her coat back up. “What do I have to do again?” There had been so many versions of this plan, Rose had lost track of which one Kendall had deemed to be the ‘final’ one.

Kendall’s brows rose as Rose insisted she was fine and ready to go. Both statements Kendall could probably challenge the validity of but thought it would be best not to get into a disagreement right before showing up at Thomas’ flat.

Honestly, Kendall didn’t even know which plan he had deemed the final one, and that really wasn’t his fault. So many ideas were thrown around, he had lost track of the good ones and terrible ones, at this point they all blended together into one giant mess of something that had some semblance of a plan. Simplicity was probably the best approach. “Convince him to leave his flat? That shouldn’t be too hard.” It seemed like someone had a crisis almost every other week, making up a believable one shouldn’t take too much effort. “I bet if you start crying he will follow you anywhere. And if you can’t just convince him to apparate to the field with you, I’ll just show up and strong arm him into going. Basically what ever it takes to get him there by five.”

Kendall shrugged his shoulder, it didn’t sound like much but it was effective. That and it was a whole lot safer than the suggested plan of showing up in the middle of the night and actually kidnapping Thomas. Kendall was positive someone would end up in Mungo’s if such a stunt was pulled.

Rose glanced down at her watch. Five o’clock was in twenty minutes. Show time? “Alright!” she replied, standing up. “If we’re not there in.... thirteen minutes, your services as back up will be necessary.” This was starting to make her feel better already. No guilt or second-guessing, no sir. As Kendall got up to part ways, she reached over for what felt like at the time, a very necessary high five. This was going to be awesome.

At Thomas’ door, Rose began to knock incessantly, hopping from one foot to the other with each rap. For good measure, she also began to call out his name. This was exciting! And actually happening! Thomas had no idea! He was going to walk over, open the door and--- wait, what was she going to say? She immediately stopped hitting the door once she realized she hadn’t fully thought through her plan of attack. What--- she--- erm--- um---! Well----

By the time Thomas appeared, Rose had formed something of what to do. Of course, whether it made sense or was even going to work was a completely different story. Why wasn’t Kendall doing this part again? He was much better at this kind of thing.

“HI!” she rushed, clapping her hands together. “What are you doing right now?!” Hopefully her rather animated look wouldn’t appear too suspicious.

Thomas glowered at Rose and kept his grip on the door because he was quite ready to shut it in her face. He had never, not once forgotten her birthday in all the years he had known her, especially after she and Kendall had dared to tease him about it and---he should just shut the door. He really should! And then he should open it again and tell her to tell Kendall that he should no longer mention him as his best friend in interviews anymore as that was simply false and insulting.

Nothing,” he said, though his day hadn’t been dreadful. Samantha had surprised him with birthday treats and other boyfriend and girlfriend things, but an emergency call to work had pulled her away. He could use her return as a reason to get Rose to leave, but Thomas was an undiagnosed masochist and wanted to hear what his supposed friend had to say. It better be good, and she better have something for him, too. “What are you doing here?”

Ooh, he was upset. Rose pulled her lips back to control the smile threatening to creep onto her face. It was understandable! She would have been much more visibly miffed than he was appearing if she thought her closest friends had effectively forgotten her birthday. It was only because she knew the truth that his apparent anger became amusing.

Actually! It made her rather pleased. Apart of her had thought their avoidance of him wouldn’t work, with Thomas catching on to their plan relatively easily (because how many stories did you hear about being left alone all day only to find a huge surprise party planned for the very night). But he didn’t! From what she could tell. That was good, right?

“Perfect!” she gushed, liking how this was going. “Oh,” Rose rolled her eyes, waving his last comment off. “I have--- there are-- things! There are planned things! For right now, so we have to leave right now!”

With a large smile, Rose jumped forward to grab Thomas before he got any smart ideas. “No complaining, it’s for your birthday!” That should definitely intrigue him enough to come along.
