You raise a child
[And when the child grows up]
You got to learn to let go

You were there for me
[These angry people]
Who are waiting to judge you

first impression: Depending on when you meet her, Hannah can either be a quiet and caring mother or a loud raucous lunatic.

personality: Hannah is very loud and outgoing. She’s always been right there and in your face. She loves Quidditch and isn’t afraid to be a fanatic but draws the line at being a hooligan. Hannah gets along with most anyone that can put up with her brash personality and can stick around her being loud. People think that writers are quiet creatures with their noses stuck in a book; that’s not Hannah. She really hated studying at school, preferring to be working on Quidditch plays or writing stories. She’s never understood the institution of ‘school’ and magic is all fun and everything, but it’s dead boring (except for flying, of course).

Hannah loves spending time with Oliver, crawling about the floor and making noises and just playing. Her immense amount of energy goes into caring for Oliver (she’s a stay-at-home-mom!) and her writing. She hates sitting still and not doing anything, so she’s always got a pen and some paper handy.

She’s extremely affectionate and loves hugs and touching people, probably because her family was so ‘hands off’ (not that they weren’t loving, it was just a less touchy kind of love). Hannah doesn’t care what other people think of her, outside of her husband and close friends. She’s a live and let live kind of person (except when you threaten her baby) and doesn’t give a damn about what society thinks. She’s half-muggle and a little pudgy around the middle, but she’d damn proud of who she is and wouldn’t compromise her character for anyone.

astrology: Sagittarius is the ninth house of the zodiac and rules the liver, hips, and thighs. Positive traits include optimism, innate wisdom, a philosophical outlook, a love of nature, generosity, joie de vive, flexibility, a keen intellect, independence, energy, natural good luck, foresight, and the capacity to dream big; negative traits include restlessness, tactlessness, clumsiness, naivete, unwillingness to commit, and a tendency to ignore important details while looking at a big, sketchy picture.

Gryffindors born under this sign are exuberant and full of good humour. They are intelligent, but often do not make the best of students, because they would rather be outside enjoying the fresh air or off studying on their own. They aren't good at diplomatic silence; if a teacher makes a mistake, the Gryffindor Sag will draw attention to it right away, usually loudly and in front of the entire class. At length. These students can get into trouble - their hot tempers make for easy dueling matches, and their impish senses of humour inspire a great many practical jokes. Still, they rarely mean anything malicious. They're too jovial to harbour malice. These Gryffindors are likeable extraverts, on good terms with practically everybody, and they generally do all right in the end. Many excellent Quidditch players come from this sign.

first impression: With his height, broad shoulders, and prominent facial features, Mark initially comes off as cold and unsympathetic, but this impression is usually changed within minutes of talking to this rather friendly bloke.

personality: Mark is the epitome of a student who walked the balance beam between the Houses of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. While he fell over into the lion's den, his natural love for learning has kept him sane in a world where if you weren't loud and bossy, you don't get anywhere. His brains helped him keep up with his energetic housemates and also with his wife, who is quite the noisy Gryffindor. Mark likes to think that with his calm demeanor and Hannah's very loud and blunt way of doing things, they create a perfect environment for their son; things are never boring in the Wood household, but they're never stressful, either.

He is a hardworker and has gained much respect at St. Mungo's for being one of the most hands on and diligent Healers they have. With an expertise in artifact accidents (specializing in transfiguration of animate objects into inanimate), Mark has also begun work in the magical bugs field, and will not deny that this is because of the death of his first son, but will not speak any further about it (even Hannah doesn't know the full extent, he just hasn't been able to talk to her about any of it).

Oliver has changed Mark's life in many ways and he will always be grateful to Hannah for giving him two sons to love and adore, no matter their time spent together. It's the greatest thing he's ever done, become a father, and Mark's willing to do anything for his son, even if it involves sitting through countless hours of quidditch practices in the rain, sleet, or snow (oh...has Mark failed to mention that he has an intense disliking for the game? One he's managed to mask amazingly well by his wide knowledge of it? It takes talent and hard work to be in love with a quidditch maniac fanatic).

astrology: Pisces are . . . is a difficult sentence to finish. There are so many kinds of Pisces. Strange statement? Yes, because Pisceans are the most malleable of the twelve signs. They possess a gentle, patient nature, but one that is in want of molding. They can be impressed by and completely absorbed into their environment. They are in need of a container which will shape them, guide them. Without this guiding form, this rudder, they tend to drift.

While not the bravest of Gryffindors, the Gryffindor Pisces still exhibits a quiet courage. They aren't afraid to face painful truths, if there really is no way of escaping them. These Gryffindors are deeply compassionate, and full of emotional strength, often becoming the unofficial counselors in the common room who everybody runs to for advice. They are romantic to an extreme; their minds are stuffed full of fairy tales, myths, and legends. They often spend more time daydreaming than doing their homework, to the vexation of their professors. Still, their daydreams do sometimes produce uncanny insights.

'Cause if I don't believe in love
[Then I don't believe in you]
And I do

Close my eyes, see the glorious sunset
[Through the windows of a store and I want it]
Anyway, if I ever felt haunted

appearance
basic physical description: Hannah is petite and while she carries a little baby fat (what mother doesn’t?!) she doesn’t care about that at all.

height: 5’2”.

weight: 135.

eyes: Brown.

hair: Brown.

build: Petite.

defining marks: Tattoo on her wrist.

dress style: Whatever’s clean and fits. With a toddler running around the house, you can’t really expect her to dress to the nines, now can you? When going out with her husband, she does make and effort to look extra special.

appearance
basic physical description: tall, dark, and handsome. What?

height: 5'11'

weight: 200lbs

eyes: blue

hair: blonde

build: broad shoulders, solid

defining marks: large scar on his side from when a candlestick lodged into him when one of his patients (who had thought it would be funny to create fake antlers from the candle holders for a halloween ball) hiccuped and jerked straight into him. It wasn't pleasant.

dress style: pretty neat or incredibly lazy. When he has the time it's usually slacks and a collared shirt. Since he's a Healer and has a one year old, Mark usually doesn't have the time, and it's almost always his pajama pants and a shirt or a pair of old (lucky) scrubs (cleaned, of course, and he's the only one allowed to clean them).

Now I'm not saying only bad news comes
[For the people who want it]
But you gotta play that music for who's listening

Open your mouth
[And if nothing come through]
Remember

background:
Hannah Cotter was born in a quiet house in Aberdeen. She has one older sister (34) and a muggle father, who’s a caretaker for the local schools. Her witch of a mum writes columns for Witch Weekly and her squib sister works at a restaurant in town. Hannah has always been louder and wilder than her family. While they were content to sit around reading and talking quietly, Hannah loved jumping around and making noise and just being active. She spent a lot of time outside where it was okay to be loud and yell and run around. Hannah has always felt that her sister resented her for being a witch, and while Hannah is not particularly talented in any branch of magic, she and her sister remain a little distant in that respect. They’ve always gotten alone fine but have never been ‘best friends’ or anything like that.

Hannah fit in well as a Gryffindor at Hogwarts and was just absolutely amazed by Quidditch. She’d had very little exposure to the wizarding world, despite her mother’s connection to it. Other than owls and quills that wrote themselves, Hannah had never really experienced magic (her mother said it was so they didn’t rub it in Florrie’s face that she wasn’t a witch) and especially not like this. She joined the team her second year and by her fourth year, the lack of older students left her as Quidditch Captain for the next three years.

She turned into a fanatic, almost a tyrant, when it came to her team. There was no way they’d lose, but when they did, it was devastating to her. She was asked to attend trials for the Holyhead Harpies, but had to decline because of her parent’s failing health. After leaving Hogwarts, she returned home to Aberdeen to help her sister take care of their parents and worked at a bookstore part time. She’s always tried to imagine what life would have been like if she had taken the trials, but then… everything would be different and she wouldn’t have the loves of her life, Mark and Oliver.

Hannah and Mark met by accident at a small café in Aberdeen. She’d been waiting for her sister to arrive and Mark had been waiting for a blind date, neither of which had shown up. Mark says he knew that Hannah wasn’t the woman he’d technically been waiting for (she’d been blonde, he says) but how was he supposed to let a pretty woman sit alone like that. Hannah knows the real story (having heard it from Mark’s drinking buddies many times) but it all worked out for the best (and the sex was really hot). What was probably meant to just be a one time fling, just wouldn’t go away. They kept bumping into each other, everywhere; in Diagon Alley, in Hogsmeade, in London; until finally Mark asked her out on a real date.

After a surprisingly long courtship (three years!) for Mark, he finally proposed and they were wed on March 3, 1974 in her family home in Aberdeen. Like most silly newlyweds they got pregnant on the honeymoon and their first child, Simon, was born in early October, far too early for an infant. Baby Simon put up a fight, but after a nasty wave of pneumonia hit the Wizarding population, he didn’t have the physical capabilities to fight off the infection. He died in January of 1975.

Hannah was devastated, alongside her husband who felt particularly guilty over not being able to save his son like he’d done countless times. The topic of Simon is rarely brought up, and the Woods didn’t try again for another child. Partially because they didn’t want to ‘replace’ their Simon, but they also didn’t want to risk the pain of something happening. Her second pregnancy was a complete surprise and also a saving grace for their marriage. Hannah had feared that Mark was drifting away, their relationship having been strained by the grief of a lost child, but after the initial shock wore off, they were ecstatic to try again, if a bit cautious.

Oliver was born healthy and strong, with a set of lungs that could shatter glass. They do their best to protect them as best as possible from everything, but Hannah is beginning to see that little boys need space to grow and accidents will happen. She’s a little more relaxed now that he’s nearly two, but they still keep a watchful eye on everything he does. Mark is a bit more strict about protecting Oliver and their one constant argument is whether they’re smothering him too much (Hannah insists that they need to let him breathe).

She’s an author of children’s books (well, juvenile and young adult) in the Muggle world under a penname. It was easier to get published and also kept her ‘secret’ identity (being a witch) more secret. Her novels are a series of high fantasy and depicts the struggle between the forces of good, called The Light, and the forces of evil, known as The Dark*, to which Simon is a main character in the first novel.

goals/dreams: To have a Quidditch team of her own, made of her sons and daughters. No matter who they are, Hannah is adamant they all play Quidditch. Hanna also wants to finish her sequence of books and start on a lighter series.

likes/dislikes: Hannah LOVES Quidditch. She’s a fanatic and was given season passes to the Pride of Portree home matches for her last anniversary and enjoys taking Oliver to watch them when she can. They listen on the wireless to every game and Hannah loves telling Oliver Quidditch stories and plays.

quirks/habits: Hannah always looses her pens. Whether she sticks it in her bun or behind her ear or in a pocket, she can never find them again. She has a habit of scribbling ideas on anything and everything; napkins, newspapers, bits of scrap paper, boxes; anything she can get her hands on when an idea comes. Hannah has a box of just idea scraps in her office. Mark is also not allowed to enter the office for any reason, at any time. He has his own office and she has a very sophisticated filing system where only she knows where things are in the mountains and piles of papers and books. It may look like a mess and that Hannah doesn’t know where anything is, but that’s just her fooling you, of course.

phobias/fears: She has only one overwhelming fear, and that’s something happening to Oliver or Mark. Without either of them, Hannah wouldn’t be able to go on. Her heart still aches for Simon when she glances at his picture on the wall or sees Oliver doing something particularly mundane and all those what-ifs come flooding back.

background: Mark grew up in a family of doctors and lawyers, so when his parents found out that he was a wizard, they weren't surprised. 'Of course he's special, he's a Wood,' they'd told their friends, when he was sent of to a very special, very top-notch, very secret school up in Scotland that they couldn't give too many details about. As an only child (and a slightly spoiled one at that), Mark found it difficult to adjust to his five roommates, who were all very different than he was. All had known about magic their entire lives, so for the first time in his eleven years, Mark was not the top of his class and not the best and not a Wood, a name that carried such pride back home. His first semester at Hogwarts was horrible, often leaving him crying in Professor McGonagall's office about how he should just go home. The professor convinced him, though, when she explained that he'd received the highest grade out of all the first years on the latest essay, that there was plenty of potential inside, and from that day Mark strove to be the best in all of his classes, which he quickly managed to do.

He was named Head Boy in his seventh year and received many different applications into the Ministry and other very good jobs, but Mark had always been set on becoming a doctor, a Healer. There was no question in his mind, when he finally received notice that he'd become eligible to train at St. Mungo's that he would take it, and he's loved every minute of his job since. The first few years were rough, but he's managed to create quite a name for himself and has a brilliant staff supporting him, which makes work so much easier.

Hannah has...she's created a wonderful spark in Mark's life. Before he'd met Hannah all Mark's world had been absorbed in work, work, work, and quite suddenly this spunky, sexy woman literally walks into his life. They kept on running into each other and after building up some nerve Mark asked her on a date. Things progressed from there, and their rather long relationship (by wizarding standards, anyway) was only due to his job. Mark wanted to make sure that he accomplished the goals he'd set for himself before tying someone else down into the stress and mania that was becoming a full-fledged Healer. Thankfully, Hannah had waited (not so patiently, but) and they were happily married. Simon followed a short nine-months later, and even though it's been some time since the newborn's death, Mark still feels like the baby is still with them. The death almost crushed the rather young marriage, but from the start Mark knew that he and Hannah had something so special that it would help them through this travesty.

Mark blames himself for Simon's death, no matter what Hannah or the other Healers tell him (and they've told him, numerous times). He was Simon's father, even if he wasn't a Healer or wasn't specialized in that field, he was supposed to protect his son against everything. The death of his son will always be Mark's biggest failure, and the fear of losing Oliver will always be his boggart. There's nothing that can change that, not even the loving words of his wife. Mark knows it's wrong to blame himself entirely, but some part of him believes that's what's helped him get through this what was really a senseless death. Giving Simon's losing battle a reason for being lost: Mark.

goals/dreams: to become Healer in Charge of the artifacts accidents wing and the magical bugs wing. Either or, really.

likes/dislikes: Likes potions work and museums and...hatesquidditchwithapassion

quirks/habits: Mark, more often than not, falls into deep thinking modes, where he will daze out and stare at a random spot on the wall for seconds, minutes, hours, until someone jerks him out of this daydream. At work it's usually a nurse and at home it's usually Oliver knocking something down or tugging fiercely on one of his limbs.

phobias/fears: Seeing Oliver die.

You got to have someone you wanna sing it to
[Oh, what a beautiful thing when you sing]
Hear all them bells ringing out in the street

You build a house and if the house comes up
[You gotta work on that house]
If you want to make it your home
