It had only been a couple of weeks, when Shann had re-entered the room of the Saints. Luckily, she was able to get the guard to “wait outside the door” while she went in alone with her cart. She had them check the initial part of it, it was clean. However.. she had her own.. surprises hidden deep within the compartment of her cart—with surprises they would only assume to never forget of.
She walked towards Romeo’s body and checked his vitals. They were getting better, but they still were far from being able to move him as of yet. She knew one way to get him out and on his feet again, but it would take some finagling. Feeling her phone vibrate out of her pocket, she picked it up and answered it. “Yes…” she said with as best of an American accent as she could administer.
“It’s me…” she heard the voice of Detective Patrick Duffy on the other end of the conversation.
Shan sighed inwardly in a little bit of relief as she said in the quietest of voices, her true voice escaping. “Were you able to attain the product I needed detective?” She inquired. The item in question was going to have to play a huge part with what they needed to do to get Romeo out of the prison – so that all she’d have to do, is worry on her boys.
“We got it... took a little longer than we expected. I should be able to drop it off to you later on tonight.” Duffy confirmed as she almost thought she heard him smile on the other end of the phone.
“Patrick...You’re a saint. You know that?” she thanked him as she looked down at the two sleeping boys on the other bunks. “You remind me of two boys I know…”
“Tell em’ we give our regards, and that we’ll see em soon.” Duffy told her, “Be careful Shan. I’ll contact you later. “Just as the phone receiver went dead.
As she closed her phone, she heard Connor’s voice say from his bed in a quiet whisper, “Duffy..?” he asked her without even opening his eyes as of yet.
She smiled a little as she quietly walked over towards his bed and sat on the corner. “Aye… they came through on what I needed to get Romeo out of here and out of danger from these cannibal fuckers.” She muttered as she let her fingers run through his hair just slightly. “You holdin luv…?”
“As best as can be expected bein within hell’s walls…” he told her honestly as he opened his eyes, transfixing them upon the young woman wearing the white uniform. “…However it makes a Saints heart ease a little when such an angel’s been watchin over us…” he teased, his lips turning up into a partial smile.
Smirking slightly herself, she poked at his chest in rebuttal, before she motioned with her finger for him to get out of bed and to follow her. As she turned around, she could hear the quiet creak in the bed as Connor swung his legs over the side, and followed behind her.
Getting over towards her nurses cart, she hit a particular portion of the plastic framing as a door popped open, and in thick rubber padding—lay four large pistols with silencers. Their guns.
Staring at them in a huge amount of Shock, he gingerly picked them up out of the holders. “Where in heaven were you able to get them…?” he asked her before he glanced back to stare her in the eyes. He knew that when they were caught – their particular firearms they had at their last standoff were confiscated and if not… destroyed.
She smiled at this and with one word said the only logical explanation. “Seamus.” Seamus was the boys’ gun dealer in Boston. She had gone to see him just a few days before to request if he had any other ones—ready to pay what was needed to him before Seamus shook his head.
“Any family of those boys.. is family here. Give them my best m’dear. And tell ‘em that should they be needin anything..do not hesitate to call.” She quoted to him the message from their contact.
Connor shook his head in bewilderment. He should have figured… somehow the good L ord always seemed to know and put the right path ahead of them when it was deemed necessary—and he had blessed them with a lot.
His thought patterns were halted when she felt Shan’s fingers reach over and grasp ahold of his arm, seeing a small gash that was getting a little red from infection. “I Swear, what in the Saints have you two been doin when I aint here?” she cursed a little as she sat him down on a chair while she got to work breaking out the antibiotics and disinfectants to clean up and bandage his wound. “Sometimes I wonder..” he could almost hear her voice start to waiver a little, and a glimmer of unshed tears in her eyes.
Connor’s facial features softened a little as he cupped Shan’s face in his hands gently, brushing his thumbs across her jaw line by the corners of her eyes to prevent any tears from making their way down her perfect features. “Now listen te me.. if it wasn’t for you… we’d probably have gotten our selves killed already from making a stupid mistake. Yer the only thing keeping us sane Shann.. yer the only thing we’ve got keeping us alive. Don’t forget that, ye hear me?” Watching her nod just a little in understanding, he leaned in and gave her a short if not almost ghostlike kiss against the corner of her mouth. “I love ye.. ye know that. Its as I said before.. none of that has changed.”
Feeling his strong fingers hold her chin in his hands, she looked up at him before giving a small nod in understanding. “Just promise me, that you both will keep yourselves alive till we find a way to get the hell out this mess… then we’ll find a place... if we have to let Uncle Jacob find us an even quieter place back home in Ireland..”
Smiling to himself, he realized that that had to be one of the best ideas that he ever had heard. Being somewhere far away from things, and living with the two family members who meant the world to him? “Promise…” he swore to her, before pulling her towards him, and wrapping his strong arms around her thin waist. Closing his eyes, he leaned his head down against her neck, taking the opportunity to draw a little more strength from her before she was forced to sneak out again.
