The Dresden Inquisition

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
James Walsh
Who: Prof. James Walsh, Prof. Templeton Morse, Madelyn, Tina, Anastas, Hawthorne, Cinna, Addy, Bernadine, Carly, Marina, Luka, and Sighard.
What: The professors begin the Dresden Inquisition in an effort to figure out who was behind the office party.
When/Where: During the day April 2nd. The respective offices of Professors Walsh and Morse.
Rating: SFW

It didn't take very long for the headmistress to feel her blood pressure reach an all new high. The students had done an impressive job of ruining her office and it was clearly a highly organized effort if only a handful of them had been caught.

She needed to set up the inquisition and she had two professors in mind who could do it quickly and effectively. She let them into her office to see the handiwork done and gave them the names of the students who had been caught covered in paint returning to their dorms in the wee hours of April 1st. From there they could ask the entire student body or simply weed out the obvious troublemakers to make an example of; either way she wanted this resolved. )

Office Party

Luka stupid cute
Who: All of the students
What: The kids pull of a rather impressive protest/April Fool's prank
Where/When: Jillian Hulett's office. After curfew on April 1st.
Rating: NSFW

It took Luka exactly one afternoon to formulate a plan. The timing was almost perfect and after spit-balling around with Sighard he had a grand smirk on his face. The students would be ripe for rebellion by the time he activated the plan that Sighard codenamed: Hurricane Hulett.

They were going to have a party during their grounding. They were probably going to get caught. The upshot was that they'd all be there and as their headmistress said, she couldn't very well expel the entire student body. But the best part was that they were going to do it in Jillian Hulett's office.

He devised a charm with his top advisers that would allow the students to stand vertically on all of the walls and ceiling to maximize space. )

A Game Changer

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Mother Criss
Who: Mother Criss and Kiefer Hulett
What: She invites him for tea and elicits his support for her plans.
When/Where: Wednesday afternoon, March 21st. Her classroom.
Rating: SFW

The air in the divination room had always been a bit stifling. Criss didn't rely on incense for her work, but she liked the scent of it, the heavy feel in the air. It set her mind to the import of her abilities and seemed to keep the students focused.

This afternoon it was surprisingly devoid of such scent. The old woman had opened a window overlooking campus, her dark colored curtains whispered back and forth under the guidance of a light breeze. These wonderful temperatures might hold out a few more days, at least until the weekend. With the students locked in their dorms, miserable moods abounded; this was Mother Criss' simple way of saying she understood. They needed the fresh air.

Kiefer Hulett found it disturbing more than surprising, perhaps a sign of the times.  )

The Mandatory Assembly

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Jillian Hulett
On the advice of Professor Morse and what he assured her was a group of esteemed professors, Jillian Hulett assembled the student body in the Grand Ballroom. House parents took attendance as the downtrodden students filed in and took their seats. It seemed as though the threat of detentions until summer vacation was taken seriously. Eventually everyone was settled and quiet.

Sitting behind Jillian were the most intimidating professors of Dresden Academy. A calculated move at best, but beyond being highly strategic it settled Jillian to the task at hand. She could lecture the students and they might listen, but chances were they'd take her more seriously with their awe inspiring professors on board.

It's been brought to my attention that a majority of the student population is behaving well outside the established code of conduct. )

Irene Hulett
Who: Irene Hulett and the shadowy Board of Governors
What: Irene starts planting the seeds to get her sister sacked.
Where/When: A secret boardroom off campus. Sunday March 18th.
Rating: SFWish

Irene smirked at the circle of shareholders seated among the board of governors. Dresden Academy's finest, the grand and mysterious board that operated outside of Jillian Hulett's reach.

"Ladies, gentlewizards, I've assembled you here today to discuss the recent function of the Academy."

Now that she had their attention, she listed off the myriad of ways that Jillian had failed Dresden. )

Sharks In the Swimming Pool

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Pete Rosenthal
Who: Professors Morse, Rosenthal, Olivier, Montgomery, Walsh, and Dr. Dawkins and Mother Criss
What: Morse and Criss hatch an idea for a summer program for university students. They rope the other uni profs along and stumble onto the idea that maybe they need to have a school wide assembly addressing certain, recent batshit behavior.
Where/When: A boardroom in Dresden Hall. Friday March 16th.
Rating: SFWish (FREE PRESS)

Pete Rosenthal had no idea what he was doing sitting in this stuffy boardroom, assembled with the university professors as if he was one of them. He had in fact started the whole thing, but for the most part since Pepper's graduation he had nothing to do with it. "Technically," Morse argued over the phone earlier in the afternoon, "you are one of us."

He missed his initiation, but it happened right about the time that Hawthorne Nikitin had stumbled out of favor with Gerard Best and became his TA. )

Super backdated: The Trouble With Dating In Class...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
adelaide: brain hurt
Who: Adelaide Legaux and Professor Walsh
What: Addy has a problem and tries to fix it.
Where: Professor Walsh's classroom
When: Backdated to February 28th, between classes.
Rating: Safe!

The first senior wandless class Addy assisted with after breaking up with Luka was excruciating. Everyone in the room knew that they had something, and that now they didn't, and that neither one of them wanted to be enduring an awkward cycle of pretending nothing was wrong in front of other people.

They avoided eye contact the entire lesson and didn't speak once. She didn't broach the area of the classroom where he was sitting at all; busying herself with a student at the front of the room and running back to her dorm after the class ended as though she were escaping a disaster zone. She buried her face in her pillow and howled with frustration. This was not going to work.

The only solution she could think of was a rather cowardly one, but it would have to do. She met up with Professor Walsh between classes the next day to extend her proposal. )

For Once, It's Good News

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Thorny likes the outdoors
Who: Thorn and Prof. Morse
What: Professor Morse has an idea regarding Hawthorne's summer vacation.
When/Where: Friday, March 9th. Prof. Morse's office.
Rating: SFW

Thorn was sitting in Morse's office yet again. It wasn't for any particular offense or concern. Rosenthal had spoken with Morse about Thorn's progress as an art TA, which was turning out to be a surprisingly good arrangement. This was mostly just to check in with Thorn, to see where he felt he was at.

His work in potions had progressed to the point that he could possibly TA for advanced if he continued his studies over the summer. Morse had an idea brewing in the back of his head, one he was certain wouldn't get much support for from the Hulett oligarchy. For this particular troubled youth he was willing to put his own money into the pot.

How have you been, Hawthorne? )

Who: Marina, Cinna, Carly, Tina, Prof. Olivier, and the cheerleading NPCs
What: Cheerleading practice is going "great" after all the tensions Carly's stirred up and things quickly denigrate.
When/Where: Thursday, March 8th. The quodpot field.
Rating: NSFW (extreme language and cat fighting)

Marina was about to punt Carly in the back of the head.

If it weren't bad enough being a general bitch to everyone all the time anyway. Carly seemed to have perfected the art of taking out her social frustrations out on all of them at practice. "Have you always been this useless?" she asked one of the younger girls. "From the top until Rachel gets it right."

Marina groaned and rolled her eyes toward Tina. )

Quodpot Tryout Results

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
James Walsh
What the students didn't know about the sudden decision to reduce their quodpot teams from 5 to 2 is that it was in the works since the fall semester. The quodpot coaches might have left their teams tied at the end, but then they couldn't decide who would stay on to coach and who would leave.

After Jaime stepped aside it was decided that they'd have two more matches at the start of the new year before breaking the news to the kids. The coaches of the winning teams from those last two matches would be the coaches of the new teams.

After some heavy arguing, Lars Holden and James Walsh (the newly crowned quodpot coaches) added one caveat. University students would once again be eligible to play quodpot and they'd be invited to the tryouts along with the other students.

It's Holden vs. Walsh forever )

OOC: Just let me know which of your kids made the cut, which position, which team. I'll leave it to you. <3

Dear Students,
It is with great regret that I must inform you that there will be no quodpot matches this weekend.

Instead there will be tryouts, as we reduce our number of teams from five down to two.

I expect that no one will be very happy with this decision, but it is with the school's fiscal function in mind that it has been made. I do hope that you will come to understand and respect this decision in the same serious vein in which it was decided.

Your headmistress,
Jillian Hulett

Holiday Gift Exchange

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Christine Allen
Every year Christine Allen set up the annual gift exchange, something a little different from a secret santa.

Students could drop presents by her office the week before the official exchange. Some packages were anonymous, some from parents who wanted their kids to have a little gift basket of snacks to finish off the semester, some were from professors or fellow students who wanted to share in the spirit of the holiday season.

By the end of the week she'd send out a fleet of little owls inviting anyone who received a present to drop by her office Monday afternoon to pick it up.

Winter Social - Friday, December 9th (open to all)

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Dresden winter
The events committee pulled off a rather impressive decorating scheme given their limited budget this year. Old silver and blue candles lit every alcove, sparkled above students heads as the floated around the ceiling. A spell created snow that fell among the candles and dissipated just as it reached the shoulders of the students partying below.

Recycled ribbons and streamers in a wintery palette draped on the walls, off the back of chairs and the small stage that graced the far end of the ballroom. Tables were draped with cloths in various shades of icy blue, some silver, some pristine white (at least until the students managed to spill their beverages).

Music hummed in the corner as a local cover band warmed up their instruments. The usual spot for photographs was set up just inside the doors. Professors wandered around the periphery, making sure the students were on their best behavior, though as these things usually ended up, the students were a lot better at misbehaving than their professors were at stopping them.

Who: Anastas and Valentin de Kooning, Dr. Dawkins
What: Dawkins picks a schedule for Stas, Val acts as translator
Where: Dr. Dawkins' office
When: Evening, December 2nd
Rating: SFW

Of all the offices he'd been shunted in and out of since making his decision to attend Dresden, this was the tidiest. The walls were clean, mostly bare except for the various framed degrees and one very abstract painting hanging behind the desk. The man sitting just under that painting was bald, though he wore a scant beard and moustache. He was wearing a gray suit with a pale blue bowtie.

He introduced himself as Dr. Nathaniel Dawkins. )

Getting Sorted

What: Stas gets sorted into a house
Where: Mother Criss' classroom
When: Afternoon, December 2nd
Rating: SFW

He couldn't say what propelled him to finally agree with his brother. He needed to finish school and decide what he wanted to do with this second chance at life. Both Stas and Val had come to campus today to sign some last minute papers, meet with the headmistress, tour the campus, and get sorted into a house. This sorting was nothing like the one he experience at Blue Ridge.

The ancient woman on the opposite side of the table stared at him in silence for so long that Anastas thought maybe she was having a stroke. )

Scheduling for Spring - Friday Dec 2nd (University students only)

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Nathaniel Dawkins
Each year Dawkins removed a set of folders from his filing cabinet. In the spring the set was rather large, covering all of the students above year two. In the fall the set was much smaller, comprised only of the university students.

Each semester the university students could decide if they wanted to continue in their chosen subject or to study something new. He posted a sign outside his door for the students to choose their preferred slot.

He expected throughout the day that some of the chosen mentors would be drifting in and out of his office as well. They liked to be involved in the process, particularly if the student needed some discussion to encourage them to continue.

Dawkins leaned back in his chair, blue bowtie firmly knotted, waiting for the first student on the docket.

A World of Troubles

What: Thorn screws up pretty badly and the parents are called in.
Where: Professor Morse's office
When: Backdated a bit. Tuesday October 18th, evening.
Rating: Mostly SFW

Thorn was probably the worst TA in the history of Dresden's University program.

Professor Morse knew what he was getting himself into, but he didn't think Hawthorne would test his patience so early in the year. )

James Walsh
Who: Professor James Walsh and Bill Ford
What: Parents Weekend! Old friends catch up.
Where: Professor Walsh's office, St George's Pub
When: Afternoon-to-evening, Saturday 24th September.
Rating: PG? SFW...ish? Those teachers are a lot more interesting out of student earshot.

Parents’ Weekend was a yearly ritual that James Walsh could do without. It had originally started as a way for the new students to reassure their parents that they were in good hands and to show them the type of environment they were leaving their children in, but had soon become almost a publicity event for the school. Advanced students were poked and prodded into showing off the marvelous things they’d been taught, and the sporting teams played rough to show off who was the toughest and best before any in-season punishments could be dealt out. He’d very strongly encouraged (read: ordered) the Champlain Quodpot team not to participate in the exhibition match because knowing Lars, he would have very carefully not recommended that the Clemons players take out their biggest rivals by means of in-game ‘accidents’.

The worst part though, was the overinvolved parents who took the opportunity to harrass the teachers about their child’s progress (or in most cases, lack thereof). He got it more often than other professors, if by virtue of the classes he led. Wandless Magic was a particularly difficult subject at the best of times, and because of the dangers an irresponsible user presented to other witches and wizards, he did not take even the slightest misbehavior lightly. Just as many kids had been thrown out on their asses as had passed the class.

Apparation was far worse, because any student at all could take it. )
