The Coming Storm
Asgard had seen a rare period of peace. That peace was about to be shattered. Dark forces gathered in a far corner of the realm. Trolls, dark elves and giants fathered their forces and prepared for an assault on the city and the cursed Asgardians.

Soon the city would fall and Asgard would be theirs to rule.

Alfun looked at the assembled troops and smiled. They would make a great distraction. Alfrun knew they wouldn’t succeed in defeating the Asgardians and taking the city. Countless times they have tried and failed. The Asgardians always won.
Until today. The troops were a distraction until the real weapon could be brought onto the battlefield. With the two, the Asgardians would fall. This would be their Ragnarok. The final battle for them.

Alfrun ran her fingers lovingly over the parchment. How very nice of that dwarf to give her this wonderful piece of parchment. With it she could bring about the downfall of Odin, Thor and the rest of Asgard. Then she, Alfun daughter of Eisa and granddaughter of Loki, would sit upon the throne of Asgard as queen.

“Send them!” she said. “I have to start the ritual.”

Treg grunted and then bellowed orders. The troops started moving.

Odin takes Vincent into the same back chamber as the others.

"Ver' soon, Bifrost shalt be shattered by the Demogorge, and none mayst return to Earth, possibly for some time, possibly fore'er. So thou hast now a decision to make."

He holds up a scrying sphere, showing Vincent a scene from Earth - a scene of Franklin before the open gates to hell, scenes of the rest of the F4 battling all manner of mutant threats, and a great citadel rising, horribly, from the middle of New York City.

"Thou'rt a child of two worlds, two bloods. But tis not blood that makest an Asgardian, tis their eternal duty. So now thou /must/ decide where thy heart lies.
If thou'rt to be a child of Asgard, then thy Earthen brother and adopted family shalt battle and suffer alone in this time of trouble. If today ist the end, then ne'er wilt they know what became of thee. And e'en if today is not the end, one day, thou wilt need to abandon them fore'er, leaving them and all that is of Midgard behind. When Ragnarok comes, they wilt ne'er see thee again, and thou wilt abandon them to whate'er trials and struggles art their due to fight alone. And if so, when Ragnarok comes... thou wilt die alone and unheralded. There shalt be no triumph, there shalt be no glory. Merely leaving behind thy Midgard family to die... as all Asgardians must.
If this is thy choice, then thy heart is Asgardian, and I shalt restore Amora's blood to thee, at some cost to mine own power.

Or, thou mayst choose that thy heart be human, and belonging to..." a picture of Andrea emerges in the scrying crystal. "This one, always. If so, I shalt return the immortal blood to thy veins, that thou mayst live as long as she wilt, to die upon the same day, and not a moment before, no matter how many days that mayst be. And I shalt teach thee the secrets of mortal magic, that thou mayst become a more powerful sorceror to make up for the loss of strength, durability and other gifts of being born Amora's son. I wilt show this to thee o'er three days, after which thou wilt be sent back to Earth, more gifted in sorcery, but Asgardian no more. But thou mayst be in time to join them in their battles for Midgard, and mayhap warn them of some of what ist to come, mayhap to save many lives.

So, what wilt it be, Vincent of two bloods? Where liest thy heart?"

Before Odin, and at his words, Vincent feels small. Moreso than even the swell of magics that make Asgard the Golden Realm weigh upon his now mortal body. His stomach twists at the very notion of abandoning either Andrea and his family or Asgard and his heritage.

"Lord Odin..." He hesitates, steeling himself as the worlds to respond gather in his mind.

"You offer me so much, and yet the choice you place before me is no choice at all. I can no more declare myself only a child of Midgard or a child of Asgard than you could declare yourself only the father of Mighty Thor or only the son of Great Bor. My duality is my nature. There is no choice to make."

Vincent conjures images of Kristoff and his family on Earth. "My family that I have gained are mighty and wise in their own measures, and there is no force on Midgard that I would have more faith in than they, to face whatever trials the gates of the underworld would spew forth."
The image of Andrea comes to the fore. "As for Andrea... she has my heart already, whatever its stuff may be, and has entrusted me with hers. Whatever the span of my life, it is already well spent for having had her love and having given her mine."

He drops to one knee, raising an arm across his chest. "I am Vincent, son born out of Amora the Enchantress of Asgard, fathered by Victor Von Doom of Midgard, and raised by Kristoff Vernard of Midgard. I will not abandon the realm of my birth in this time of crisis, for its need is great, and even a grain of sand may tip the scales in battle."

He lifts his head, his eyes locking on Odin's all-seeing one. "However, there is no choice to make. I am only what I was born to be, a child of two worlds. I can no sooner deny one world than deny the sun in the sky. I will do battle in your name, spill blood for our realm of Asgard, and give up all that I am unto the breaking of the world, with even what little remains to me."

Vincent winces as he lays it bare. "For so long I despised my mortal half, cursed it for leaving me an outcast in my childhood, banished to Midgard in my formative years, and tied by blood to a man I call a monster... but it has also been my link to those I have cherished most in the greater portion of my life. I cannot deny it, nor cast it aside.

Teach me what thou will, restore to me what thou will, and task me with what thou will, but I say to thee a third time, Lord Odin... there is no choice to make."

He lowers his head, and stands again. A very small laugh escapes his lips, as he smiles weakly at the All-Father. "It is the cursed and blessed fate of humans to rarely accept the paths laid before them..." He tightens his jaw, as if demanding tears not to well up through sheer force of will, as the thought of never seeing Andrea, Kristoff, or the rest of his family again ravages his mind.

Odin looks on Vincent for several long moments, looking almost sad.

"Thou dost not understand, I fear. Tis not me presenting thee the choice. Thou'rt unique in all the nine worlds. For all mine power, I hath no choice. I wilt live mine life, and die at the jaws of the Fenris Wolf. Mine son shalt fight, take seven steps back, and die after slaying Jormungandr. This /ist/ what it ist to be Asgardian. We art not gods because we hath great power. We art not immortal beings because of some cosmic accident. We art blooded so because we hold the world in our hands - one day, nothing else shalt matter. All we hath sown, all pleasures, all friends, all loves, all passions shalt be set aside... and we... shalt... die. This ist our fate, this ist what it meanst to be of Asgardian blood.

Tis not me presenting thee some fool's choice. Thou'rt special, thou'rt blessed... thy mother's indiscretion hast bought thee a moment in which thou mayst choose... ist there a verse of the Prose Edda written for thee... or ist there not. E'en with mine sacrifice, until this ver' moment, I cannot see thee in the weave of fate. For this moment, and this moment only, unique of /all/ born of an Asgardian, thy fate ist thine own.

This wilt determine thy place not only today... but upon the day of Ragnarok. If thou choosest to abandon all of thy Midgard friends, then fate shalt draw thee here. No force on all the nine worlds wilt stop it.

/OR/ thou canst untwine thyself from fate. I shalt teach thee magics that wilt replace some part of what thou hast lost. But if thou'rt not willing to make the sacrifice of /everything/, friends, family, love, passion... that all others of the blood hath, then thou'rt not an Asgardian in thy heart. Thou canst return to Midgard, and none shalt hold it against thee, and thou shalt hath what mortals hath, and more... a life of thine own choosing, thine own loves, thine own family.

E'en for all mine power, Vincent, I cannot give both paths to thee. I wouldst if I couldst, but this is the moment where either thou shalt take up the sword and grab fast to the threads of fate, and be fore'er bound in them...
Or thou mayst fly to thy friends aid now in their time of trial, and mayhap e'en their deaths. Thou mayst defend Midgard as one of its heroes, and mayhap by thy warning, save them. Thou shalt learn powerful magics, and thee and Andrea's days shalt be one and the same. And in so doing, thou shalt hath thy thread of fate cut, and be thine own man to define.

But thou /cannot/ do both. It ist blessing enow that thou hast a choice which Odin dost not, which Thor dost not, which Amora dost not, which Svalin dost not... tis a blessing, but it ist only thy blessing once.

Choose. Death for Asgard, forsaking all else, or stand with thine friends and family, truly a member of the noble Fantastic Four - family united to the end. The choice is thine. But... thou...must...choose."

For a long few moments, Vincent cannot find words. Then, like clay coming off of steel during forging, something crumbles inside of him, giving way to resolve. His eyes flash as his gaze latches onto Odin once more.

"Then I am an Asgardian, until Ragnarok, the end of all things, and the breaking of the world." His fists tighten. "I bare all truths now. I make this choice not to restore the blood of my mother to my being, for truly, blood is all she is to me. I make this choice to defend the golden realm and to seek the definition of myself.

I have and will always be a child of two worlds, but both of my blood have been trifling pieces of my life. Before you, and at your side this day stands not Vincent, son of Amora, not Vincent, son of Doom, but Vincent, lover of Andrea Denker, apprentice of Jennifer Kale, and brother of Kristoff Vernard. Let me be known and judged accordingly. I seek my true self and a true name. "

He raises a hand and pinches the bridge of his nose. He will not cry. He will not.

"If there now be a verse of my fate, then I would hear it, my lord."

Odin nods grimly. Vincent can feel his Asgardian born strength and durability returning to him, and the world becomes just a little sharper in focus once more.

"Then thou hast found true nobility at last, and thou shalt pay dearly for't.

In the end times, the child of two bloods
shalt heed the gall of the Gjallerhorn.
He shalt forsake everything he lovest,
His wife, his home, his family, his child,
To prove at last he ist Asgardian born.
And he shalt stand bravely,
Using all his magical might to defend the south tower.
In the end, the view from on high
Wilt let him see Death coming.
Dozens shalt fall before him,
But the demons wilt swarm on.
And he shalt die in flame and agony... and courage.

His soul, like those of all Asgardians,
Shalt fade to less than dust, and all he is, all he was,
Wilt be no more, leaving behind
A wife, a child, a home - that though they shalt ne'er know his fate,
He shalt know in the end that his sacrifice helped save them.
For their names shalt be the last words he speakest."

Odin eyes Vincent a few long moments.

"In making this final decision, Amorason, thou hast found thy place, and who thou art. Therefore I find it most fitting to decalre this - thy experiences and thy influences amongst heroes hath shaped and changed thee. Thou hast an understanding of true heroism and sacrifice at last. And e'en in Asgard, we know well the Fantastic Four, and the heroes they art.

So if with Asgard you stand, and no more wishest thou to bear the evil and chaos that come at times with thy name, then thou needst search no further for a true name... for thine father needst not always be the one who bore thee, but the one who teaches and shapes thee.

So go forth proudly, Vincent Richardsson. Thou hast a war to help fight."

Vincent can barely contain his pride, and nods sternly to Odin.

"The end of days will be a great day to die; but it is not this day."

There is a moment's flash of realization as Vincent reacclimates himself to his powers.

"My lord... if the bridge is not yet broken, is there still the means and link to Midgard to send a message to my family?"

"Nay, we hath been a'ready cut off from Bifrost and surrounded. When the shield wall falls, we wilt be engaged. Be of good speed, and prepare thyself for battle. Time growest short."
