If someone already has a character from, say, the Greek pantheon, can I have their counterpart from the Roman one?
 Short answer: No.

Longer answer: It's more like strongly advised against, because, say, Zeus and Jupiter are pretty much the same guy so it wouldn't make sense.

Addendum: It's possible though, under extenuating circumstances since there's nothing under the rules against it. It would just take a very good application and a note to the mods about it. :)
Can I play the Judeo/Christian god or Allah?
 Short answer: Nope!

Longer answer: No, because this particular deity is, essentially, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent which is a bit much. We like our deities (in the context of this game, of course) to have some human foibles. :)
Okay, so you've nixed having the Judeo-Christian God present, but would lesser aspects of the religions be alright in-game? I'm thinking angels/demons/saints, stuff like that?
 Short answer: It depends!

Longer answer: An extremely good case would have to be made for them as they don't really fit into the game world. However, the argument could be made for some saints/demons/angels who were correlated with ancient deities (like Brigid).
What about Cthulu?
Short answer: Let sleeping gods lie?

Longer answer:I really don't think Cthulhu or other Lovecraftian horrors fit within the game world, sorry!
What if I want to bring in a character who has some previous history with an already existing character?
Short answer: That would probably be cool, with caveats.

Longer answer: Talk it over with that other character's player first. We like existing histories since it makes the place feel more real, but something like that will need to be worked out ahead of time just to make sure everyone's on the same page.

And on that note: If, in your character's previous life, they were a deity with a [canon!] relationship with another character's previous life deity, it would also behoove you to make sure you and that other player are on the same page. For instance: Diana is the incarnation of Loki. Loki, in myths, was married to Sigyn. If someone brought in a character who is the incarnation of Sigyn, we two players should work out their shared history to make sure we're both on the same page in regards to how their relationship went because if I believe Loki truly loved Sigyn even if he was a jerk sometimes and the other person believes Loki abused Sigyn or whatever, well...that won't work so well, will it? Big point I'm trying to get across here: talk things out!
What if I want to play a plain old mortal?
 Short answer: Sure!

Longer answer:Feel free! The whole world isn't made up of reincarnated deities, after all! :D
Will you put a character/PB on hold for me?
 Short answer: No.

Longer Answer: Sorry, but I won't. I tried this for a while and it didn't run so well so all characters and PBs are now on a first come/first served basis.

New Short Answer: Yes.

New Longer Answer: We are now trying out accepting holds, however, you will be required to post your character's name, their deity (if applicable), your desired PB, and fill out, at minimum the character appearance section as well as one more section of your choice. Holds will be made for one week and you may be granted a single one-week extension. When making a hold (on the applications page) please make sure the subject line of your comment says HOLD.

Addendum: If a particular PB/character leaves the game, that PB or character may come up for grabs.

This means if a character leaves and their PB becomes open, a new character may come in using that PB. They shall not, however, be considered to be "identical to that guy who used to be around here" though characters may feel free to think that there's an eerie resemblance or that that guy just has "one of those faces" or something like that.

This also means if a character leaves and their deity becomes open, it will be handled one of two ways: if they were never openly known as being that deity, it doesn't matter if someone else comes in as that deity. If, however, they were known openly (by other characters in the game) to be that deity, there will need to be some explanation for how this came about. Whether this is by the previous character dying and the deity jumping into a new body (though this usually happens when a person is born, not afterward) or some other means, this will need to be worked out.
Do we have to RP in posts or can we do so in instant messenger or Google docs (or whatever), too?
Short Answer: Only if you want to.

Longer Answer:IM logs are all fine and dandy but try to remember to give opportunities for other/new people to join in too by making open posts for people to show up in. If you see an open post and have a character available who could plausibly be there? Don't be afraid to jump in!
Is there any particular format I should stick to when posting?
 Short Answer: Yes!

Longer Answer:Posts in the community should have, at the least, a general description of location and a general time of day/date that the thread is taking place on. For every character involved in the thread, please tag the post with their name! See this post to use as an example.
