"You're going to kill yourself with those, you know," Charlie scolded, wrinkling her nose up as Jenny puffed out a plume of smoke. She had been keeping track of the girl's smoking all night, knowing that Jenny would regret it sooner or later if she kept it up. She took Jenny's hand with a small smile to show her that she was mostly just teasing the older girl and tugged her gently towards a path that led into the moonlit woods behind the Dubinsky house. The path looked well traveled, and she wasn't worried about it leading to anywhere too dangerous. She assumed that it was a well used highway of neighborhood kids if the way the dirt was worn was any indication.
"How about, we go for a little walk and enjoy the first morning of the new year," She suggested, pausing at the mouth of the path. She wouldn't go down it if Jenny wasn't feeling up to it, anywhere Sera wasn't seemed like a pretty good place to be right now though. Charlie wouldn't mind avoiding Alex for a while either, especially with the disagreement they had gotten into earlier. "And then we can go back to mine and build a blanket fort, watch a few movies or something? I promise I'll keep my hands where you can see them!" She poked Jenny's side playfully, smiling sweetly at the girl. "Then you don't gotta worry about hearing anything you don't wanna about El's and Hendrix's sex life. I'll even make breakfast in the morning, like, Mickey Mouse pancakes or something!" Giving the older girl's hand a small squeeze, she grinned good naturedly down at her. "What'dya say Jen?"
"I know," Jenny sighed easily, giving Charlie's hand a little squeeze as they began to head down the path. It wasn't as dark outside as she would have expected, the moon was pretty full over their heads, but she took one last glance toward the house before they disappeared into the trees entirely. She scooted up close to Charlie's side, snuggled down in her jacket still. She lifted her arm from inside, taking a drag from the cigarette again as they paused at the head of the path, and she took another look behind her at the house as the younger girl made her offer.
"Well," Jenny began slowly, immediately trailing off a bit before she exhaled gently and gave Charlie a serious look. "I guess as long as you don't mind bad eighties movies and I'm not like.. intruding or anything. Your parents won't mind?" she asked, as she squirmed a bit at the poking in her side, her eyes squinting shut as she grinned. "Gross! They don't even have a sex life!" she laughed, making a face once she was free of Chuck's prodding. Smiling sweetly right back, she gave a little nod of her head at the taller girl. "If you make me a peanut butter sandwich, and your parents really won't care.. then I guess we have a deal," she agreed softly, swallowing thickly for a moment. She thought of Sera for a split moment, of the stupid asshole she had been with all night, and felt a sudden flare of jealousy. She squeezed Charlie's hand tightly again. "Y-You don't have to keep your hands where I can see them," she added, half-joking but with a little blush even in the darkness.
"Sixteen Candles is my favorite," she responded immediately with a large grin. She couldn't deny the soaring feeling she felt as Jenny agreed on the plans for the rest of the night. It was something she wasn't used to, someone asking rather than demanding. The small act of hand holding was making her feel pretty good as well, it wasn't for any personal gain other than to feel close to one another. "My ma wont mind, she's workin' a graveyard shift tonight anyway. The twins are at a friends house, so, we'll pretty much have the place to ourselves."
She laughed at the face Jenny made at her, rolling her eyes in mock exasperation. "I dunno Jen! They looked pretty cozy tonight, you know how babies are made, right?" The younger girl couldn't help but let her already too large grin extend from ear to ear as Jenny squeezed her hand tightly. She could tell that the older girl was partially joking, and she had no intention of trying to push the tentative boundaries of their friendship. The girls light blush was making her want to pull the other blonde close and kiss her again though. It was too cute, and Charlie already adored so much about the way Jenny acted. It couldn't hurt to flirt a little bit, right? Drawing the other girl closer, Charlie leaned down to whisper in her ear. "You just tell me where you want them then, princess," she purred huskily, letting out a low chuckle. It was too much fun, making people flustered, especially when they were as cute as Jenny. "I'm sure we can find some other uses for that peanut butter if you get bored with just the sandwich." She straightened up with a satisfied smirk on her face, and tugged the girl gently down the path. "So, miss senior head girl," she said, as if the topic of sex hadn't even been brought up. "When are you going to find time in your busy schedule to come visit me and Fido in the parking lot, huh? He misses you, you know. No one else will hand out and play with him while I tinker like a mad woman."
"You knew Molly Ringwald was the way to my heart.. you sly dog," Jenny joked back, smiling a little as Charlie told her that they'd be alone. She sort of preferred the idea of it anyway, she wasn't sure what sort of state she was in to be around other people. She was glad to be away from the party, and to just have a few minutes to breathe and hang out with Charlie, one on one. "Just us?" the blonde asked, quickly making another face as the older girl teased her again about her sister.
"Gross! I know all about it, but that doesn't mean I want to think about my sister making babies! Or Hen! Oh yuck, they're like-- off limits. I'll break my brain," she laughed, becoming a bit more seriously when Charlie pulled her in and whispered against her ear, making her shiver a little against her will. "P-Pervert," she laughed weakly, blushing harder once Charlie was on the move again, taking them deeper into the path. "When are you going to take time out of your busy schedule to come see me? Last I heard, Lexi keeps you pretty busy," the shorter blonde replied, regretting it as soon as she had said it. Her interaction with Alex tonight, while minimal, had been unpleasant. The mood that she had put Charlie in hadn't impressed the older girl either. "Sorry, I didn't mean to-- I just.. guess we both had people we didn't really need dragging us down tonight, huh?" she sighed sadly.
"You might have mentioned it once back in the day," Charlie sing-songed, making a goofy face back at Jenny. The goof quickly melted away and was replaced with a small smile. "Yup! Just you and me kid, promise." She was looking forward to a chance to spend some time with Jenny away from everyone else. She wouldn't have to look over her shoulder to make sure Alex wasn't about to bite the other girls head off. It would be nice, to be able to be herself fully.
"Fine, fine!" Charlie finally caved, "I won't say anything else bout babies or your sis!" She blushed a bit when Jenny called her a pervert, and rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. Charlie hadn't meant to be so forward, it had just kind of slipped out. "Sorry," she mumbled, giving Jenny a shy smile as they walked. "I couldn't help it, you're just so cute when you blush." Charlie let the barb about Alex roll off of her and quickly abandoned Jenny's hand to wrap her arm around the smaller girl's shoulders. "Hey, it's alright," she said quietly, giving Jenny a small squeeze. "Alex is really demanding of my time, it's true. I've missed you though Jen, especially on Saturday mornings in the parking lot." She was too mad at Alex deep down to let Jenny's comment bother her. It was easier to just ignore how much it had truly hurt her and focus on the girl who was currently in front of her. Letting her usual goofy smile slide back onto her face, she figured that keeping things light would be best for both of them. "I did hear a rumor from my personal assistant that a block of time just opened up," she teased, giving Jenny's shoulder a small squeeze and returning her hand to the other girls. "Seems like she might have penciled you in for a few places in the near future. What do your people say about that, huh? You got some time for little old me?" She squeezed Jenny's hand, and turned to face her so that she was walking backwards, leading Jenny down the path as she looked at her. "It could be fun?" She offered, tilting her head to the side. "I have been known to show a gal a good time."
"Don't be," Jenny replied quickly, looking up at Charlie and giving her a weak smile, "I don't mind," she assured her. Leaning into the arm that came to wrap around her shoulders while they walked, Jenny sighed a little. "I missed you too," she admitted. "I guess with Head Girl stuff and everything this year, and there was the explosion and stuff, and then all of this happened.."
Trailing off, the shorter blonde chewed her lip a bit, sighing. "Between all of that and spending time with Sera.. I forgot I had old friends who still cared about me, I guess," she replied, looking a little sad but perking up once she saw the goofy grin on Charlie's face. It cheered her up rather effortlessly. "Oh, you heard that, did you? Well I was talking to my personal assistant earlier, and she that she made some time for you between my next midday sobbing and my next pint of mint chocolate ice cream," she joked back, squeezing the younger girl's hand back again and grinning at her as she walked backwards before her. "Don't trip," she warned her automatically, ever cautious. "I think it sounds fun. I mean, if you really don't mind someone so mopey.."
Charlie was glad to see the other girl perk up so quickly. She knew how down Jenny was feeling inside, the older girl was an emotional mess. She hoped that if she could distract the smaller girl with something fun it would help her forget, even just for a little while. "Well we don't have to miss each other anymore," she said with a happy smile. "As long as you share that pint of ice cream with me, then I suppose we can make whatever this is work."
Grinning automatically at Jenny's warning, she leaned forward and gave the girl a small peck on the cheek. Jenny had always been a little worry wart. Charlie found it incredibly endearing, it was pretty cute that the girl would show concern for her. "You're cute, you know that?" she asked quietly, slowing her walking so that they were almost nose to nose. She dropped the girl's hand again to drape her arms loosely around the older girl's shoulders. "I've thought so for a very long time," She admitted with a small smile, her face flushing. "I think Charlie always knew, but he never said anything. Good guy." She felt a little bit worried that this would be too intimate for Jenny. They were still dawdling along the path, Charlie's legs being spaced wider than normal. She wondered if Jenny would be mad at her for "accidentally" tripping and bringing them both down onto the wooded path. Fake stumbling a bit, she grinned devilishly as it bumped their bodies closer together. "Ooops!" She giggled, winking at Jenny. "That was a close one." | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
