When she saw Michi break out into a smile, Hunter immediately did the same, feeling some weight lifted off of her shoulders. She knew she had been crazy, but she had been harboring the tiniest fear that the younger girl would turn her down or something. "Me too, ain't nobody else I'd do it for," the blonde replied, her voice cracking a little and making her quickly clear her throat.
Crossing the short distance between them, the taller girl climbed up onto the bed bedside her girlfriend, scooching herself in and pulling up her long legs. "Fuck him, he ain't nothin' but a donor.. monkey's gunna be too much like his mom," the blonde assured her, picking up the nickname happily. It made her stomach feel fluttery, but not in the usual way. It was all new. Putting an arm around Michi and rubbing her back gently, Hunter leaned her head against the other girl. The crying was killing her, even if they were happy tears now. Her own eyes felt damp, but she hadn't quite cracked yet. "Or her mom," she added, smiling again. She nodded in agreement with everything Michi said, just smiling even wider. "You bet. Momma and dad-momma, and.. auntie Mack and auntie Kia. Even boring ol' auntie Sera, and we're.. all gunna love 'em. Like a real family, like it's supposed to be, like on tv.. all happy and shit," the blonde whispered. "Gunna be great."
Michi snuggled right in next to Hunter when she climbed up on the bed. "Exactly," she said about Pas. He had nothing to do with it now, he had no right. She wouldn't dwell on him now.
"Yeah, we're gonna be a proper fuckin' family. Better than tv," she reassured Hunter. "And hello! Two mom's, this kid is gonna be spiffy as shit." She was getting the warm feeling now, it was less edged with fear and anxiety. She was still scared, for sure, but she had Hunter, one hundred percent and she was sure that would get her through. "You still gonna think I'm hot when I gain eighty pounds in monkey weight?" she grinned mischievously.
"Spiffy as shit an' a Quodpot superstar, wait an' see! Professional!" Hunter chimed in, grinning wildly now at the thought. She squeezed Michi a little again, leaning over to kiss the side of her head.
The blonde pulled a little face at her girlfriend's question, sticking her tongue out. "Y'know I will! It ain't like y'all are gunna be the first preggo girl I been with," she scoffed, laughing a little. "Jus' first one that's mine."
"Oh definitely and a lil heart breaker," she added. "With momma's looks and momma-daddy's spunk monkey's never gonna get a break from all the other girls and boys," she grinned.
Michi snorted. "Oh yes, cause you hook up with so many preggos," she laughed lightly. "Well... at least I'll rock the shit out of those maternity clothes. And I plan on wearing heels like... until monkey comes," she giggled.
"Damn girl, I'm proud of this kiddo already and they ain't even here yet," the blonde grinned back, laughing lightly. It was hard to contain her excitement now, now that she had let everything out, now that they were on the same page and moving forward together. It wouldn't be easy, but she knew they had it under control.
"Hey! Ya never know.. I wouldn't know y'all were preggo to look at ya, but low and behold! I coulda been with a bunch and not even know it," the older girl reasoned, laughing again. "Baby, you rock anythin', don't I tell you that?" she added, poking the dark-haired girl's side. A moment after that, she was hopping up off of the bed suddenly and heading back over to the desk. She grabbed her coffee and the shopping bag from earlier before moving over and flopping back down. "Here, I thought it'd be.. y'know, like show ya I ain't scared. We can put lil monkey in one 'fore comin' home.. like from the hospital and shit. They're uh, pretty tiny," she said, briefly in awe of how small they really were when she thought about it. The thought had struck her in the store too, when she had first picked them up. Babies were so little and fragile and she was so.. lanky and everywhere. How old did they have to be before she could start tossing them in the air and all of that fun stuff? Waiting would be killer. "Somethin' in there for you too, ma."
Michi felt a thousand times better to know that she wasn't along in it, not that she thought Hunter would abandon her now. She beamed at her girlfriend. "Right? Monkey's gonna do us proud," she patted her belly lovingly.
"Oh hush, I've gained like eight pounds in two months," she sighed heavily. "I'm gonna be a planet," she giggled as Hunter poked her side. "Oh shit Hunt, you didn' have to get anything," she said when Hunter tossed her the bag. She pulled out the blankie first and grinned. "Awww, monkey's gonna be a cowboys fan," she giggled. She held the little onesies out in front of her and beamed. "Oh my god! Lookit how adorable these are! Monkey is gonna be so teeny tiny," she held them to her belly for comparison. "Oh god," she laughed. "That's gonna come out of me." When she reached the bottom of the bag she pulled out the silver bracelet. Her eyes grew big and she couldn't help herself. "Awwww, it's so sweet," she was already busy wrapping it around her wrist and securing it in place. She looked up at the taller girl and sighed. "I love you Hunter. I would be so... so fuckin' lost without ya."
"C'mon, y'all know I don't mind a li'l junk in the trunk! Yer still sexy to me, baby!" the blonde insisted back, giving the younger girl another little poke as she watched her pulling things out of the bag. She looked a bit sheepish and wave a dismissive wave of her hand as Michi told her that she didn't need to get anything. "I wanted to, don't be silly.. y'all know I'm gunna spoil this kiddo. Do it right," she murmured.
"Bein' a cowboys fan bein' part of doin' it right, of course! I'm gunna take 'em to games and everything, you wait an' see," she informed her girlfriend eagerly. Even if things like that would be far down the road, the thought of it made the tall girl's stomach flutter with excitement again. Her, taking her kid to a real Cowboys game. That would be crazy. Watching the other girl hold the onesie against her stomach, the blonde beamed. "Super teeny tiny, gunna hafta be real careful.. that parts kinda scary," she whispered. "Their necks freak me out," she admitted. Trying not to gulp, she nodded as Michi laughed, and she laughed a bit herself. "You gotta get the good drugs and it'll fly out like a greased up watermelon in no time!" Chewing her lip a little as Michi put on her bracelet, the blonde girl scooted closer still and reached out, putting a hand gently on either side of the younger girl's face as she looked up. She hesitated for only a second before speaking. "I love you too, momma. Don't you forget it."
Michi snorted at the junk in the trunk comment and shook her head. "Hey, maybe it will give me a butt," she grinned. "I've been trying for years."
"Yeah, this kid is gonna be spoiled rotten," she said brightly. "We aint gonna neglect monkey er anything," she said gently. She could just imagine it already, they were going to struggle and they were going to trip up every once in a while, but she couldn't do this with anyone else. They were going to be happy. "I know," she said with her eyes wide. "I mean... it's kinda freaky to think that the little guy has like such a tiny neck and little feet. Can you imagine the feet?!" she giggled a little. "We'll figure it out though." Michi gently pressed her lips to the other girl's and smiled. "I won't, not never."
"Don't forget them tiny li'l fingers.. and those little nails, they're so tiny!" The blonde added, half horrified and half amazed. "And their little bald heads. I had dark hair when I came out, all went blonde after that! Weird shit, them babies," she mused. "We'll figure it all out. Together, the whole damn way. The three of us, right?"
Kissing the younger girl back, Hunter smiled widely in return. "Good. Now what d'ya think of the name Rihanna!? Y'know, if it's a girl, name 'er after my girl, right?"
"I bet monkey is gonna have a full head of black hair," she laughed gently. "My ma could put mine up in a teeny tiny bow when I was firs' born," she grinned. "We'll get through this," she reassured herself.
She snorted. "Oh man, I feel like that's asking for trouble... then again... look who's raisin' this kid," she smiled warmly. "Trouble any way you look at it."
"Least with us havin' a baby like this, we don't gotta worry about 'em lookin' like my sister.. y'all wanna talk 'bout some ugly babies," the blonde joked, shuddering dramatically at the thought. Elizabeth had, she supposed, looked no more strange than any other slightly early baby. But when the younger girl had been born, Hunter could tell almost right away that the two of them would never get along and something about that just tainted her opinion of her sister, even right from the start.
"Can't escape trouble when it's my middle name," Hunter reminded her girlfriend, with eyebrows waggling. "C'mon, Rihanna Sommer has a ring to it!"
"I seen the pictures," she grinned. "Talk about potato head baby," she laughed. "Our baby is gonna be fuckin' cute and sweet," she insisted.
"It's true," she poked Hunter in the side. "What about... Bubble? Bubble Sommer Passos?" she joked. "Er somethin' fancy like... Brunhilda," she snorted.
"Cutest an' the sweetest," Hunter agreed automatically, surprising herself with how much she meant it. A few hours ago, a few days ago, a kid would have been the last thing she wanted to think about. But now they were doing it, it was real, and she was going to make it the best that she could.
It felt sort of like waiting for Christmas morning or something. Would it be a boy or a girl? Who was it going to look like? When would they actually be born, early, late, on time? It made her stomach flip a bit to consider it all. Laughing loudly at Michi's suggestion, Hunter grinned and poked her girlfriend back. "I love Brunhilda! It's a real tough name, y'know?" she giggled back. "What about Big Bertha Sommer Passos? That's a tough guy name!" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
