True to his word, Mikhal had worked out attaining his own little apartment through his rich friend. He didn't like to think that he was prostituting himelf out, and really, he wasn't exchanging sex... exactly. Just the pleasure that his bite could give.

The apartment was beautiful with lovely dark hardwood floors. It came all ready furnished in rich colors, mostly reds to go with the dark floors. Mikhal had sent a letter to Greer with the address on it, and nothing else, other than his name and a date with a time. He knew that would be more than enough and he had absolutely no doubt that the young sorcerer would show up. Greer was too curious not to show.

Heavy curtains hung across the windows, blocking out all of the light from the outside, and even when night came along they stayed closed. Mikhal was most comfortable at the mansion, and getting use to this new place was going to take a bit of time for him.

At the moment he was listening to Johnny Cash while he read a book, though he couldn't focus for too long. His blue eyes kept sweeping away from the words upon the pages to flicker towards the clock as the time that he'd scrawled down on the card grew closer and closer.

He stared down at the glass, the tempting red liquid sitting prettily inside of it. Without too much hesitation, he reached out to indulge in one more drink that lasted far longer than he'd intended. "Do you have to eat every night?" He asked without even trying to act nonchalant about it.

"No, not every night," Mikhal replied as he came back to return to his seat. "Going a few nights without isn't so bad, pushing past that... Is not a good idea," he added honestly with a mild shrug of his shoulders. "If you do that, and you're not a strong vampire, you run the risk of losing control."

"Have you ever lost control? I think if I were a vampire I would go as long as I could without feeding. Knowing me, I'd probably end up losing it and only making things worse." Greer didn't know if his magical blood precluded him from becoming a vampire, and it wasn't something he wanted--but he couldn't help but be curious about what it would be like. Living forever, however, was not something he had any desire to do. He didn't have a death wish by any means, but the notion of outliving his own era was frightening to him.

"I did, in the beginning, when I was new," Mikhal replied as he wet his lips, dragging the tip of it along the center of his lower lip in thought. "But no, not anymore. I make it a point not to, it can get much too... difficult. I know some vampires that do, though. I think that maybe it's like some sort of a game to them, and for others, maybe it's the guilt."

Greer liked things to be clear cut. The idea that all vampires were different and that there were few universal truths annoyed his scholarly side. He wanted facts about them. But at the same time, he was relieved that they were as much individual people as any other supernatural creature, especially since he was finding himself quite fond of this particular vampire.

"When was the last time you fed?"

"Last night," Mikhal said as he drummed his fingertips against the arm of the couch. "A human at the mansion, his name is Shiloh. He's a lovely artist, you'd probably like his work," he added with a faint smile. "If you're going to ask if I'm hungry, the answer is yes, but I can wait until tomorrow night and go home. I didn't invite you over here to be a snack, I invited you over for company."

There was a strange sense of rejection to that, and it surprised Greer how much he'd wanted to offer Mikhal his blood again. "Oh, yes of course. I--didn't think you wanted a meal." He was a little embarrassed and he fidgeted with his pants, picking imaginary lint from the knee of his trousers.

"You're listening to Johnny Cash. His voice is amazing. Had I already mentioned that? We don't listen to much non-religious music at the seminary. Gregorian chants, choir music, that sort of thing."

Mikhal could sense that edge of disappointment, and it was very pleasing. He had Greer right where he wanted him.

"You haven't mentioned it, no," he said as he glanced over at the iPod while it sat in it's dock station. "I'm amazed at how far technology has come, I can't believe how many songs can fit in such a little device. I couldn't even work it at first, I had to have someone show me." Lewis was very helpful, and whenever Mikhal needed to learn about something new, he always went to the boy.

"It would scare me to have to live for so much longer than the era of my childhood. I'm curious what the future will be like--but I think I like to keep it at speculation," he laughed a little and leaned his elbow on the back of the couch, resting his head against his hand. "My dad had a record player that we used to listen to, jazz mostly he loves jazz of all things."

"Jazz, I haven't really given it much of a chance," he admitted with a shrug as his gaze swept around the apartment in thought. It returned to settle on Greer's face, and he smiled a little. "Maybe I will, though. Do you like jazz?"

He looked almost impish for a moment. "No, I don't like jazz very much--I like simpler things. Johnny Cash for instance. You can hear that easy one-two back beat and it doesn't take much interpreting to understand what his music is trying to say. Jazz is complicated, almost mathematical. I like the chants too. Blissfully easy."

A warm laugh escaped Mikhal's lips, and he smiled. "I was going to say the same thing about jazz, it's always seemed too..." He paused, considering the right word he wanted to use. "Busy," he finally settled on.

"Busy, yes," he laughed, liking the description. Greer's father had always been a busy one, so the music suited the man. After a moment, Greer sat up more fully, feeling as if he might drift off to sleep since the couch was so comfortable and the wine was relaxing his muscles. "Can I have a tour of the house?" he asked sweetly.

"Sure, of course," Mikhal said as he rose up to his feet and held out a hand. He waited for Greer to take it before he led the way down the hall, towards the bedroom. There was a lavish masterbath and a beautiful balcony with lush red curtains. "I suppose that this is where I'll be sleeping later tonight." If you could call it sleeping.

Greer paused, trying to picture Mikhal sleeping soundly--like the dead--in this room. It was more angelic than creepy and he smiled at that. He moved to the curtains, checking their weight with his hands. "Heavy enough to block out the sunlight," he noted as if he approved. "Don't you ever get scared that someone's going to come and open up the blinds or something?"

Mikhal didn't like to admit insecurities, but for some reason he felt that it would be endearing to Greer if he did, and he definitely wanted to be all things positive to the sorcerer.

"Sometimes," he finally admitted outloud as he leaned against the doorframe and kept his eyes trained upon the other man. "I prefer the mansion, it's safe... Sort of like a security blanket. Whenever I'm away and I stay in the city... it's nerve wracking."

Mikhal's instincts were correct, the admission was quite softening to Greer. "I could cast a protection spell on the room. No one who meant you harm could cross the threshold." He was particularly proud of that spell since he'd crafted it himself from scratch. It was easy to see that he wanted to show it off, and while pride wasn't the most accepted emotion in the clergy, he was feeling it right now.

For some reason, that really surprised Mikhal, and he hadn't been expecting the offer at all. He blinked and a slow smile spread across his lips, and it was a soft one.

"You'd do that for me?" he asked after a moment.

"Of course," he said quickly, not even having to think about his answer. He liked the idea that he could protect Mikhal, who was clearly powerful in his own right. "It's quite simple; it wouldn't be any trouble." It only worked on one room, anything much larger than that and Greer simply didn't have the power to sustain it.

Mikhal was quiet for a few seconds before he nodded his head and pushed away from the door to step into the room, and he met Greer halfway.

"I'd like that very much," he said, his voice quiet. "Thank you."

Having Greer offer to do something to protect him caused a strange feeling to course through Mikhal's body. It was warm, and odd, but good. He wasn't sure what to make of it. He was beginning to wonder if the sorcerer was affecting him as much as he was affection the sorcerer.

He could not hide how pleased that made him and he literally rolled up his sleeves. "Not even a draft will be able to get in here if it could harm you," he grinned. His fingertips brushed over the drapes one last time before he went to stand in the door frame.

Silent for a moment, he centered himself in the doorway and shut his eyes. Energy swelled up around him and he knelt down so he could press his hands to the floor, pushing the energy down into it. He drew a line with his finger and muttered a few words before standing up. Greer was especially good at ritualistic magic, finding power in words and actions.

Watching Greer, Mikhal stayed still, not sure if he should move or not. It was fascinating, and the power he felt glide through the room was enough to pull him towards Greer a little bit more. The power was coming from Greer, after all, and he wanted to be near the source. By the time that the sorcerer was done, Mikhal was kneeling beside him, closer than probably should have been.

When it was done, he felt an invisible string tying him to the room. It was the smallest of power leaks so he could continue to feed protective magic into the room. It certainly wouldn't drain him, but he knew it was there. But he liked that thread of connection to where Mikhal would be sleeping. Looking up, the vampire's proximity startled Greer. "Oh, hello," he said quietly. The rush of working magic always made him a bit breathless and Mikhal himself had that affect on him too.

When Greer looked up, Mikhal's eyes locked with his, and the greeting caused a smile to curl at his lips. He could feel that string of power, he just wasn't sure what it was exactly, but he certainly felt it.

"That was interesting feeling," he said after a moment before he got up, though he reached up to help Greer as well.

This was growing into torture, moreso now that he realized how disappointed he was every time Mikhal didn't just reach out and take him. Ridiculous how the vampire had more self control than a future priest, god maybe he really was making a mistake with his life. He kept a hold of the man's cool hand even when he was back on his feet. "There's an old voudon spell that I came across in a book that gave me the idea for this one. I like to tinker with spells in my free time, learn or make new ones. I think it's good for me to keep on top of my powers. Sorcerers who don't practice can end up down a bad road."
