To Shiloh
Bernadette didn't often go searching for other people. Other people came to her. But tonight she was feeling particularly proactive and she whisked through the house, poking her head into every room looking for Shiloh. She missed his face and she missed his voice. He was rapidly becoming her favorite, a position that held both advantages and disadvantages. Thanks to him, she had long since forgotten the two little half-demons who had left her before she'd truly been through with them.

"Shiloh?" she called out in a sing-song voice as she traveled down one of the long halls of the mansion. "Shiiiiiloh." She amused herself a great deal and his name was followed by the sound of her laugh. She trailed the tips of her fingers along the crisp white beadboard until she came to a doorway. Swinging into the room, she scanned it and then let out a frustrated little sigh when she saw that it was empty. And so she continued on her way, still calling out his name.

She all but tugged Shiloh away from the man. "Come," she whispered with a little laugh, hand wrapping tightly around the boy's hand. Morris kept his eyes on her, face breaking into a deep set frown. He didn't like the way she handled Shiloh, like a possession. He nodded a little at Shiloh's promise to call him, having the feeling that he shouldn't expect to hear from him again, but that was probably just his own negativity talking.

Bernie sheparded Shiloh away, walking with purpose toward the car. It would be best if they didn't linger at the library.

Shiloh got up and let Bernie tug him away, though he did glance back at Morris a few times. He was all aglow, completely happy, and felt as if he was on some sort of a hight. He'd never experienced a real crush before. It was exhilerating.

Once they were outside, he turned his gaze to Bernie and smiled. She looked lovely. It was probably twisted of him to think so, considering that he knew what she'd just done, but he couldn't help it. He adored Bernie to pieces.

"He asked if I belonged to anyone at the mansion, and I said you," he told her. Even though Mikhal brought him to the mansion, Shiloh felt a strong attachment to Bernadette. If he belonged to anyone, it was her.

"You do," she assured him with the utmost confidence. She didn't expect Mikhal would challenge her on that, but if he did she had every intention of putting him in his place. Shiloh was hers and he couldn't have come at a better time in her life. For a long while she felt as if she'd been losing Lewis to Elgyn. Once again, she couldn't fully compete with a man, and it grated on her. But she adored both Elgyn and Lewis, so she couldn't be entirely bitter. In a way, Elgyn was hers too--as much as he could be anyone's. Or at least she liked to think so.

"I'm glad that you said you belonged to me." She grinned and leaned forward to kiss his forehead before dropping her mouth down to kiss his cheek.

Shiloh smiled as he took a hold of Bernie's hand. There was something reassuring about hearing her say that he was hers, and it made his chest feel warm inside. It probably wasn't healthy, the level of attachment he had with the vampire, but he needed Bernie. He wasn't sure what he would do without her. She was like the mother he lost and missed, except he would never lose her, and never have to miss you.

"I love belonging to you," he told her as they approached the car, "Because I love you."

Maybe it was because she'd heard the story of Shiloh's mother and had felt the emotions surrounding the event washing off of him as he told it. But hearing that he loved her actually moved her in a way that hadn't happened in a long time. She'd always been the motherly sort, but she hadn't ever been able to bring herself to feel the emotions of motherhood. It was terrifying really, because the feelings took her back to a very dark night at the darkest time in her life. Her son, dead in her arms, barely a few minutes old, and the fact that she barely had time to mourn before she had to keep going.

She felt a well of tears rise up before she was able to force them back down and she pushed her fact against Shiloh's neck as her arms squeezed him just a bit too tight, unaware of their great strength.

The hug was unexpected, but Shiloh welcomed it and clung to Bernie in return. He could barely breathe, but he didn't care. He was sure he'd let Bernie crush him to death if she wanted. She could crush the air right our of him and he wouldn't mind, because he felt loved. It was a feeling he craved but had rarely gotten, and even though Bernadette didn't say the words, he knew she cared for him.

After a moment, she'd composed herself entirely and she pulled back with a vibrant smile on her face, cheeks still flushed and full of life from her kill. "I feel like I could stay up past the sunrise." She said with a sigh added for affect. Whether that meant she felt so powerful that the sun wouldn't harm her or that she felt so happy she was ready to die, was not indicated by her tone.

Kissing the top of his head, unable to get enough of that, she finally stepped back. "Let's go home."

Shiloh appreciated the words. He knew that they were a sweet and beautiful, and he leaned in to press a kiss to her cheek before he nodded his head. He held onto her hand the entire way back, and Shiloh was oblivious to the looks of interest being cast their way. He slipped into the passanger side seat and got settled as he tugged his seatbelt. He was looking forward to the ride home. It was strange, that Shiloh's life was happily surrounded by death, but he was happy.
