Kellen could tell he was unnerving Rex, though it wasn't by much. But it was something. When the two men took him inside the house and down to the little cage, his stomach turned. Even if he could shift, he had no room to do much. They could just inject him and put him out. He'd have to think of something else.

When Rex left them alone, and Quillan asked him if he wanted anything to eat or drink, Kellen met his eyes for a moment. Rex was cold. This guy was different. Maybe this guy could be his way out if Kellen reasoned with him. Maybe if he showed the one that he wasn't a monster, then he had a chance.

"Some water, please," he said softly.
