To Shiloh (or anyone at the mansion)
Shiloh hadn't called. It wasn't as if it had been a long time, or anything, but Morris was the anxious sort. Had he been imagining the fact that the guy was into him? Maybe that woman he was with didn't want him calling strange men he'd met at the library. Maybe it was the necromancer thing. Or maybe it just hadn't been long enough and he was being obsessive. The later was the most likely, but that didn't keep him from seeking out Bernadette's mansion and going there. He wasn't afraid of vampires in the least, though it wasn't as if he could do much to them. But he was definitely no push over, so he didn't hesitate to head up on the porch.

He eyed the place. It was a large plantation style home that would have looked out of place if it hadn't been in the nicest section of town. Two stories, with a wrap around porch on each layer, pillars made it look grandiose. It bordered on cliche, and he wondered if Bernadette hadn't been human in the south somewhere. He lifted his hand and knocked on the door before noticing a doorbell and ringing that once or twice to get the attention of anyone who might be inside. It was dark, so he figured people would be up and about.

"Seven's good," Shiloh agreed as the mansion came into view. He paused and swung their hands together. "I like anything, I'm not picky. Italian is always good, though. Or that diner, that place has the best burgers. And pie."

While Morris could appreciate how good Mabel's was, he wanted something a little more formal for their first official date. "Italian," he decided out loud. "And I'll keep working on the whole raising the dead thing, make sure I don't draw some body out of hiding if we happen to kiss unexpectedly again."

"All right," Shiloh said with a warm laugh. He let his hand rest against Morris' chest as he leaned in to kiss him again, letting it linger for just a little bit before he pulled back. "I'll see you tomorrow at seven then," he said with a nod. He couldn't wait to go inside and see Bernie.

Morris was pretty sure he could listen to that laugh all night. "Tomorrow," he nodded and gave Shiloh a little wave before he watched him disappear inside. It felt wrong to just let him go back in there with all of those monsters, but there was nothing he could do about it at the moment that wouldn't upset Shiloh.

Bernadette was waiting inside, looking nonchalant about it. She stood just past the foyer, arranging a large bouquet of Easter lilies. Her delicate fingertips brushed over the petals, moving them about gently to her taste.

Shiloh cast one last glance back at Morris before he slipped into the mansion. When he saw Bernie there, he smiled and went over to her to see what she was doing.

"I have a date tomorrow night," he said after a moment. "I'm not even sure what I should wear."

Since the visit from Hunter, Bernadette had been on edge, frustrated with the situation with the wolves. She had a difficult time being anxious when Shiloh was around though and seeing his pleasure made her smile. The mention of a date brought a bit of tension to the corners of her mouth though. "With the necromancer?" she asked in a tone of voice that was slightly higher than her normal pitch.

"Yes, we just went for a walk, and he's a really good kisser," Shiloh said as he grabbed a hold of her hand. "I wanted to talk to you about it. Are you busy?" Bernie usually was never busy when it came to Shiloh, but he was always polite enough to ask.

"I'm not busy in the least." She poked at the lilies one more time with her free hand and seemed to be satisfied with how they looked now. "Though I must warn you, I know very little about kissing men. I've never been a huge fan of it."

She squeezed his hand a little and walked them into the main sitting room. With one pointed glance, she chased the three occupants out of the area so that she and Shiloh could be alone.

"Well I'm sure you're good at it, I don't think there's anything you couldn't be good at," Shiloh said softly as he followed her into the sitting room. Once they were settled, he slipped out of his shoes and tugged his jacket off. "You don't like him much, do you?"

"That's kind of you. I'm good at arranging flowers and taking apart video games, but I'm terrible at sex." She spoke bluntly. "It only seems that I could be good because I've warped your poor little mind so that you'll fall in love with me." It couldn't be decided if she was being mean or merely teasing, but she reached out to tug his hand into her lap to distract him from what she'd said.

"No, I don't particularly like him. I like humans that feel alive. Morris does not feel alive and it's unnatural." Funny thing coming from her.

When Bernie took a hold of his hands, he remembered that they were dirty, and so was he.

"Oh, I should wash my hands," he said softly, not realizing that his cheek was also smudged with dirt. It probably looked like he'd had a romp in the grass or something. At her words about Morris, though, he glanced back up at her and sighed softly. "But he is alive," he pointed out. "I don't know... I like him. A lot. I can't explain why. It's just a feeling I get."

"I suppose one cannot deny emotion." But she didn't like the notion of sharing Shiloh. It was bad enough that she hadn't been the one to bring the boy here. She liked having her hand in the important things, having the illusion of control.

She noticed the filth on him an she wrinkled her nose in slight disgust as she looked down at her own hands. "Yes, a good wash." She stood up again and led Shiloh to the bathroom where she ran the water like a mother making her child wash their hands.

Shiloh trailed along after her, and once she started to run the water, he dipped his hands underneath the faucet before he lathered them up with some soap.

"Danielle said something about Elgyn to him," Shiloh said after a moment as he rinsed his hands, then cleaned off the smudge of dirt on his face. "He's afraid Elgyn might hurt me. I told him you wouldn't let that happen... Not unless maybe I did something to deserve it," he added after a moment with a frown.

She considered Hugo and Boy and just how much control she seemed to lack over her own little group of vampires. The notion brought the slightest of sneers to her face and she looked away from Shiloh for a moment. "Elgyn has a way of getting what he wants regardless of what I say. But I would find some way to protect you." Exactly how she protected him may be objectionable to Morris, but she wasn't going to say as much.

Plucking up a towel, she wrapped his hands in it and squeezed them while she leaned forward and gave him a kiss on his now clean cheek.

Shiloh lowered his gaze to watch as Bernie dried his hands off, and when she kissed his cheek, he smiled softly. He was tired, though still very much giddy over his little adventure with Morris. He couldn't wait to see the sorcerer tomorrow night, and he wondered just how things were going to go.

"Thank you," he said softly as he gave her hands a squeeze back. "Sorry, I was so excited I forgot to wash my the dirt off."

As much as she wanted to be snitty about this whole situation, she simply couldn't bring herself to continue. Seeing Shiloh this pleased was heartening and she sighed. "It's impossible to crush your spirit, you realize this, don't you? Here I wanted to be upset about you being so excited about that man, and instead I find myself pleased that you're pleased."

Shiloh slipped his hand in her's again, and he led the way back out of the bathroom to go to where they'd been sitting. Hearing her words, though, he paused to look at her.

"I don't want you to be upset," he said very quietly with a very serious frown.

Bernadette couldn't keep the amusement from her face. "No? And what would you do if I told you that I didn't want you to see the necromancer again?" While she did not want to hurt him, she got a little pleasure from seeing his expression take such a dark turn so quickly.

Like Bernie wanted, his expression did go from illuminated to somber, and he frowned as he thought about that notion for a few moments. "I don't know," he said softly. He wasn't about to lie to Bernie. He really didn't know. "I'd be terribly sad, I think."

"But you do not know if you would defy me and see him anyway?" She kept her voice sugar sweet, no trace of danger there. It was up in the air of she was going to turn angry about Shiloh's honest answers or if she waz really just playing with possibilities.

Shiloh was silent for a few moments before he swallowed hard and let out a quiet breath. "I'd tell you, I'd rather be honest with you and have you be angry or disappointed than lie to you, he said honestly, his voice very soft.

Her eyes flicked down to the way Shiloh's Adam's apple dipped with the prominent swallow. She loved it when humans did that, when she unnerved them a little. It was even more intoxicating when Shiloh did it. She leaned forward as if she was having a hard time hearing him, though her hearing was preternaturally acute. "Well, so long as you tell me, and you never leave me, I suspect I'd let you do anything, darling."

It really was like a child interacting with their mother. Shiloh really couldn't imagine disappointing Bernie, or angering her. In fact, he could've sworn he'd just die if he did. "Why would I leave you?" he asked, and his tone was genuinely puzzled.

Mind flitting briefly to the baby she'd lost many, many years ago, Bernadette lost her amusement. Slipping a delicate hand onto Shiloh's cheek, she regarded him with sobriety for a long moment. Being this attached to a human was a bad idea and she patted his face before she withdrew.

"Because that's what humans do. That's what they're supposed to do eventually. But don't worry, I trust you."

Shiloh knew, deep down, that Bernie was right. He would be with her until he couldn't anymore, and that meant someone or something would have to drag or take him away. Whether that be death or something else. He didn't like to think about it, and he held onto Bernie's hand a little tighter. He was definitely very attached.

"Can I sleep with you today?" he asked, though she really didn't sleep. But he knew that she'd know what he meant. He just wanted to be close to her while he slept.
