[I'm rearranging the timeline a little. Haben and Noah's reunion maybe just happened a week or so after he got back from the month long trip. Does that work? Lol]

Haben, Robin, Sullivan, and Austin had been back at the Haven for a couple of weeks. The appearance of Noah had been surprising, but welcomed. Haben had managed to avoid Africa entirely on their travels, even though Robin had wanted to see where Haben had come from. He wasn't ready to own up to who he was, but Noah's presence was making him start to face the reason's he'd run away in the first place.

He was sitting by the water, feet dangling over the edge of the makeshift dock that jutted out into the small lake on the territory. Looking over his journal, he slowly paged through it, making notes here and there about the sketches he'd done of the memories he'd had.

Noah was on his way back from a shift, his jeans on, but his shirt had gotten lost. It was an expensive shirt, but he wasn't too upset about it. He headed over to the deck where he saw Haben sitting, and he smiled he went over to his friend.

"Hey," he greeted. "What're you looking at?" he asked as he settled down and rolled his jeans up to put his feet in the water as well. "Where's your bff, Julian?" he teased with a gentle bump of his shoulder against the other lion.

Noah always smelled so good after a shift. As much as Haben didn't want to go home to the turmoil of his country and the responsibility of his crown, he still could enjoy the familiar scent of a fellow lion. Turning his head, he leaned over to press his nose to the other boy's bare shoulder. He inhaled deeply, appreciating it unabashedly.

"Hmm, I don't know. Probably inside singing something to someone," he muttered good naturedly against Noah's skin. "And this is my travel journal. Some guy gave it to me and said I should write about my life in it." It had been one of the people who'd helped him--but had used him too. Haben had run into a lot of those people and even though he'd been far, far too young for the sorts of things they'd done together, he never begrudged them.

When Haben nuzzled into him like that, Noah couldn't help but smile. He let an arm loop around the other lion as he turned his head to press his nose in against the crown of Haben's head and looked down at the travel journal.

"Am I in there at all?" he mumured softly, arching a curious brow as he wiggled closer.

He always felt the need to reaffirm his place in Haben's life, afraid he didn't really matter as much to the other lion as Haben mattered to him.

He nodded and turned his head so he could see what he was doing and flipped back through to the beginning. "I sketched how I remembered you." There was a rough sketch of Noah as a young boy and of a lion cub. Lions shifted earlier than wolves, around age 8 or 9.

After a second, he turned the pages forward. "And this is how I thought you would look. Every year that passed, I drew how I thought you'd grow up." He was off by a little, but not too terribly much. Clearly, Haben had thought about Noah quite a bit. "Most of the time, when I was writing things down, I was writing to you and grand dad."

Noah looked at the pictures, and he smiled softly. It was nice to know that Haben had thought about him that often, and written to him. He turned his head and brushed a kiss against the other lion's cheek before he laid back on the deck and looked up at the sky.

"You really don't miss home at all?" he asked after a moment.

Looking at him very seriously, Haben shook his head. "I missed you and I missed my grandfather and my father." Two out of the three of those things were dead now. "But I never miss the scrabbling, the politics, or the shoes my father left to fill." He flicked his toes in the water, staring down at them. "I never miss any of that."

And he didn't miss the memory of sinking his teeth into his grand dad's neck or the way he couldn't control the way he tore at it. Clasping his hands together, he kind of felt like diving into the water and swimming away. Noah was both wonderful and horrible to have around. There were so many good things about him, but so many memories attached to him that Haben had been running from for a long time.

Noah could feel the sorrow pouring off of Haben as if it were a waterfall, and it caused a frown to tug at the corners of his mouth. He let his arm circle around the other boy's waist, and he pulled, coaxing Haben to lay down next to him.

"I'm surprised that I actually like it here," he admitted after a moment. "But I think it's mostly because you're here."

It was hard to not want Haben. He was attracted to him, definitely, and they were best friends. Sometimes Noah could be a brat, but Haben always handled him beautifully.

Haben was afraid for Robin to meet Noah. The trip had really brought the four of them together, but there was always room for derailment. Noah threatened to be just that thing that could throw them off track again. He kind of missed the time in his life when he could fuck around with anyone and have it not mean anything. Then again, that life had been hollow (after having left his best friend behind) until Robin had filled it up with meaning again.

He rolled onto his side, resting his head on Noah's chest. "I've been all over the world and no place really feels like home until you've met someone nice there." He'd met a lot of nice people, but none so nice as the people in the Coldwater Pack.

Noah tucked an arm up and around Haben's shoulders, and he let his fingertips brush back and forth against the other boy's arm as he watched the clouds move through the sky.

"I guess that's true," he agreed quietly.

He liked Coldwater, and the pack, even. He didn't want to really admit it, but he knew that it was true or else he wouldn't be sticking around so close. He'd stay in town more often.

"Tell me about Robin some more," he added after a moment. "What happened on your trip?"

Noah's bare skin was so warm and their energies combined so easily. There was something perfectly lazy, languid, about the way they slipped over each other and it made Haben feel weak, calm.

"He's an artist. He loves Sullivan and I think he looks up to Austin in a weird way. Austin is going to be the alpha when Hunter steps down, you know. Like the king. He's a lot stronger than I am. Actually, Robin is stronger than I am too--though he doesn't show it all the time. He's sweet, but get him riled up and he fights back. I tried to show him how I lived before I came to Coldwater, but--" Haben laughed a little, embarrassed. "I couldn't exactly make money the way I used to before I met him, so it was different. Austin and Sullivan paid for things."

Noah was quiet as he listened. He hated that he felt a tug of jealousy over Robin, because from what he knew about the boy, he deserved someone like Haben. He didn't know very much about what had happened while Robin had been missing, but he knew enough to take Haben at his word when it came to how strong the boy was. Noah just hadn't ever been very good at sharing, and he didn't like that he had to share Haben at all. Especially when he never really got to have him.

Instead of saying anything, Noah just stayed silent, and he closed his eyes as his fingers drew patterns against Haben's skin.

The tracing fingers pulled a shiver out of him and he moved closer to Noah, shimmying until he was practically on top of him. "You're giving me goosebumps," he said with an obviously mock frown. Sticking his finger out, he poked him in the chest as if threatening him. "You shall stop, by order of me." He wiggled his eyebrows up and down. He would have made a terrible ruler, clearly.

"By the order of you?" Noah repeated, arching a brow as a grin of amusement tugged at the corners of his mouth. "You're terrible at ordering people around," he added as he opened his eyes before he closed them again and relaxed. "Do you think I'll ever find someone like Robin to love like you do?" he asked after a moment.

Haben pulled back a little so that he could look at Noah's face to see if he was joking. "Well, are you looking?" For some reason, he'd fancied the idea that maybe Noah would just always be casual with the people he was interested in. He didn't want to deny him sex, or fun, but he really didn't want him to fall in love with anyone.

Why? Well, he'd only just gotten him back. He wasn't eager to lose him again. "I don't think you will," he finally said and maybe it was a little mean. "You're much too difficult, and you're too picky to love someone so much."

"I'd like to fall in love one day with someone who loves me back," Noah said as he opened his eyes and looked back up at the sky again, avoiding Haben's gaze on purpose. "And that's not true. I'm not too picky to love someone so much. You just think I am, but I'm not."

He loved Haben, after all. But he wasn't about to say so because it wasn't as if it would get them anywhere.

"You think no one will love me?" he finally asked as he let his gaze sweep in Haben's direction, and his expression was worried, like he was a little hurt.

Haben shook his head firmly. "That's not what I meant. I just meant that--of course someone will love you, Noah. You're perfectly lovable. I just think--" Haben's voice trailed off and he offered a casual shrug, passing the whole conversation off.

He rolled off of him and sat up, putting his feet back in the water for a minute before he got up from the dock entirely and started to pad barefoot back to the house, leaving a little trail of wet footprints in his wake.

Noah tipped his head back and watched Haben walk away for a moment before he got up to follow after him. He gently caught the other boy's elbow and tugged him back before he slipped a hand into Haben's.

"You just think what?" he asked after a moment with a frown. "It's okay, you can tell me."

Letting his mouth curve into a slow, easy smile, Haben offered an impossibly elegant shrug. "I'm Haben, I don't think anything. There's not a thought in my pretty little head." He made a joke out of it and leaned in to give Noah a quick peck on the cheek before continuing to walk, dragging the other lion along with him. He had his journal under his free arm. He wasn't going to stop walking for anything, not more questions, that was for sure.

Noah wasn't about to let Haben off that easily. He frowned, and once they hit the grass and were close to the trees, he let go of the other lion's hand and moved to grab him by the waist. He easily got Haben to twist around and then he literally fell right on top of him so that they landed in a heap on the grass.

"Don't lie," he said softly, knowing he had Haben pinned and that he couldn't walk away now. He got comfortable. "You don't want to share me as much as I don't want to share you. That's it, isn't it? We're best friends. We're both from the same Pride. It makes sense." Even if it was so, so confusing sometimes.

Haben wasn't about to admit to that. Having Noah on top of him though, made it apparent to himself that he very much wanted to be the one whom Noah loved. But that was selfish and unfair to everyone.

As soon as he felt Noah get comfortable, he frowned. The boy had always been able to get the better of him when they'd wrestled or fought back home. It grated on his pride. "I just don't think you should go looking for love or whatever. It's complicated and--well I don't think you could handle it. You don't always get your way when you're in love." Now he was just being a jerk and he turned his head away from Noah's so that they weren't so close.

"Never said I was going looking for it," Noah pointed out quietly. "I just said that one day I'd like to be in love with someone who loves me back. Who knows when that'll ever happen, if it'll ever happen," he added with a frown before he rolled off of Haben and tucked his hands beneath his head to stare back up at the sky, but all he saw now as mostly trees. "It hurts that you think I can't handle it. Why couldn't I handle it? Am I too selfish?"

Staying where he was, Haben closed his eyes as if he could take a nap. Really, he just wanted the conversation to end and maybe if he pretended like he was asleep, Noah would drop the issue.

But when the other lion said that it had hurt him, Haben sighed. "I'm sorry that I ran away and that I ruined us--or whatever our potential us might have been. I'm the one who's selfish and couldn't handle it, not you. You'll find someone and you'll be happy. I know it."

Noah was quiet for a moment before he rolled onto his side and propped his weight up onto his elbow so that he could look down at Haben. It was sweet of his friend to say those things, but Noah wasn't sure how true they were.

"You didn't ruin anything. Besides, you wouldn't have met Robin if you hadn't run away, and you love him. So maybe it was just meant to be this way."

Haben loved him very much. But still, Robin loved more than just him. It worked out overall, but there were still moments of it feeling unfair. He wanted to consume Robin the way Robin consumed him.

He nodded, keeping his eyes closed and instead using his sense of hearing to determine Noah's position. He'd heard his skin move across the grass as he rolled onto his side. "Are you ever going back there? Will you tell them that I died, or something?"

Noah lifted a hand up to allow his fingertips to move along the side of Haben's arm in a silent tip toe. He wet his lips as his head tipped to the side, and a quiet sigh escaped him.

"I don't know if I'll ever go back. Without you there, what's the point, really? I'd like to go back to Africa one day, but not to the Pride, no."

He wanted Noah to be touching him all the time and he reached out to capture the man's hand, bringing it to his mouth to kiss his palm lightly. "They're going to tear themselves apart, if they haven't already. We'll all turn into the other cats. Loners, with no structure whatsoever." He was of the same mind as his father had been. What made the lions great and powerful was their ability to band together. And it was no secret that he felt pretty damn superior to other werecats. Not that he'd really run into any--which made it that much easier to judge them.

Noah smiled when Haben took a hold of his hand to kiss the palm of it. He dipped his head down and nuzzled in against the side of the other boy's neck with a quiet sigh.

"We have structure here, though, don't we?" he asked softly.

It certainly felt like it. Hunter was very good at keeping his pack in line, and together. It was actually amazing to see, something Noah knew lots of lions wanted for their Pride but had never gotten.

Haben nodded. Part of him had wanted to take something from it, learn something from Hunter about how to run a pack. But he was too afraid to admit that part of him wanted to make his father proud and go back and clean things up. He was too young, he thought to himself. And he would fail and probably get himself killed along with Noah and anyone who supported him.

"He's a good leader. He's powerful and kind. Hey, maybe he can go to Africa and straighten things out."

"Yeah, I'm sure the Pride would love to take orders from a wolf," Noah said with a snort of amusement before he let his head settle down against Haben's chest.

He turned his head in and nuzzled his nose against the other boy, inhaling the familiar scent with a lazy smile. It was nice to be around another lion, and especially nice that it was Haben.

"D'you ever think I can cuddle with you and Robin?" he asked after a moment.

Haben laughed at the very notion of a pride of lions taking orders from a wolf. But when Noah asked his last question, Haben's laughter died off. "You would want to?" He didn't think Robin would react well to such a request. Then again, the time away had done wonders for all four of them--or at least it had in Haben's optimistic opinion.

"Yeah, if you and he wanted to," Noah said after a moment as he opened his eyes to stare over at the grass. "It gets lonely on my own sometime. I miss the way we'd all pile up together back in Africa sometimes, you know?"

It'd felt safe, secure, and Noah had felt wanted. Now he didn't really feel any of those things, and it made him frown.

Haben could feel the well of loneliness in Noah. Their connection was strong and that emptiness made Haben frown as well. He leaned down to kiss the top of Noah's head and his mouth lingered there.

"I'll talk to him. I think he'd understand about needing to be in a pile." He didn't mean it with any kind of sarcasm, or jab against Robin, just that he needed that security only a pile could offer.

"All right," Noah answered as he looped an arm around Haben's waist.

For a long time, he'd been so angry at Haben, even when he'd been trying to find him. Their fist meeting in town had been less than stellar because Noah was so hurt and angry, but he'd gotten better. He'd forgiven Haben, mostly. It was still hard most days.

"I should get up and go shower," he said after a moment.

Noah laughed softly, though when Haben pulled away he felt all of the mirth sink out of his bones. He'll be shocked to find Haben as well and try to bring them both back. Now that I type the last one out, I kinda like it best lol]

Haben glanced back over his shoulder, offering a sweet smile at Noah as they walked inside. He just loved having him here and he never wanted him to leave. He worried that if he found someone else to love though, that he'd want to go away with the person.
