Shiloh had seen Morris a handful of times since their stroll and kiss, but he was definitely growing closer and more smitten with the necromancer. They were taking things slow, and things could still get a bit awkward between them from time to time, but in the good kind of way. Tonight, Lewis had taken Shiloh into Seattle for Shiloh's very first concert. It had been amazing. It was just an Indie band, sort of mellow but fun, and in a tiny little venue. It was more of a show than a concert, but to Shiloh it was everything wonderful. He'd had a great time.

It was late when they started to head back, after one, and when they got to Cold Water, Lewis pulled off into a gas station to fill up. He headed inside for snacks so that he and Shiloh could eat them while they told Bernie all about the show, and Shiloh had been texting with Morris about it all night long. He was sitting in the car, still texting, music playing softly while he waited for Lewis to come back out.

Lewis's spine felt like ice as realization set in. He obeyed quickly, knowing that fighting back at this point would only make the situation worse. Then again, he didn't see this situation getting better anytime soon. If this man knew Bernadette and he was threatening to snap their necks--well, the relationship couldn't be a very good one.

As soon as the car door shut, Loki started the engine and drove off, heading the same direction as they'd been going before. He had no intentions of taking them far away from the mansion. No, he wanted them close so that as soon as he started in on one of them, Bernie would feel their suffering. He wanted to broadcast it and send the bitch running after them.

Silent for the whole trip, Loki kept his eyes on the road. It wasn't too long before he pulled into the driveway of a nice little rental only a few blocks from the neighborhood of Bernie's place. He wouldn't have a great deal of time once he started, but for now he was managing to cloak against any sort of detection the woman might have set up in her territory. It would have behooved her to kill him last time, but she couldn't bring herself to do it and had let him go.

"Inside," he instructed. He realized he would only have to physically control one of them to get the other to comply for now and he grabbed Lewis's shoulder, looking at Shiloh as if he dared the boy to make a run for it while he had his friend so close at hand.

Shiloh was nervous, and he'd held onto Lewis's hand the entire drive. He was trying to stay calm, but it was difficult when he knew something horrible was about to happen to the two of them. What if this vampire killed them? Then what? He blinked and stared down at the floorboards, and when the car lurched to a stop and Loki told them to get out, Shiloh's heart sank even more. He watched as the vampire grabbed a hold of Lewis, and he just stared for a second before he went up to the door to slip inside of the house.

It was dark, and Shiloh swallowed back the lump forming inside the back of his throat as best as he could. He wished he could reach out to Bernie somehow, or Morris. They were magical, weren't they? They were supernatural, could they sense things like that? He had no idea.

"Hmmm," Loki postulated dramatically. "I wonder what you're thinking. How could you possibly get out of this without any help? She can't feel you yet, you know. But she will. She definitely, definitely will." He squeezed the back of Lewis's neck so hard that the boy almost saw stars and let out a yelp as Loki kicked the door shut behind them. He could see quite well in the dark so there was no need to turn the lights on right away.

He ushered the boys into a room where he shut the door. After a moment, the lights flickered on because he wanted them to see what was going on. The room itself was empty. "Tell me, has Bernadette killed anyone lately?" He wanted to know if she was at least keeping her promise.

Shiloh really was the worst person to ask about such things. He was easily blinded by Bernie, and he just saw all of the good qualities in her. The question caught him off guard, and he looked a little stunned like a deer in headlights.

"I-I don't know," he said softly as he looked at Lewis with a frown.

Loki's threats were making him unbelievably nervous, and he swallowed hard, knowing that they were more than just threats. This man was going to hurt them both.

Lewis piped up quickly. "She doesn't kill. That's a rule." Lewis never knew why. He knew the woman could be ruthless when she chose to be and she lived vicariously through Elgyn's tales of gore and violence. But she didn't kill when she fed.

The words were met with a bitter laugh. "Well, good for her then. And good for you, I suppose. That means you'll live. But you're going to wish you hadn't." He was talking it up big, but he wasn't sure how the mood was going to strike him when he really got down to business. Sometimes Loki didn't have it in him. Sometimes these rages were just hollow. He fell silent as he looked back and forth between them, trying to decide which to harm.

Finally, his eyes rested on Shiloh and he let go of the hold he had on the house. Everything was out in the open now, no protection from the senses of the vampires mere blocks away. Bernadette would know immediately that he was in her territory and she would come to find him. With a quick move, he was on top of the boy, bearing his weight down on him. "Tell me what you love to do. What do you do, Shiloh?"

Shiloh wasn't sure where this line of questioning was coming from and why. To him, the idea of Bernie ever killing someone was just... impossible. Of course he knew she must have in the past, but he never really gave it much thought.

He opened his mouth to say something, but before he could Loki was looking at him, and he really didn't like the way the vampire's gaze had settled on him. Before he could blink, he found himself pinned to the ground, Loki on top of him. He let out a loud yelp of surprise, pain radiating throughout his head from how hard it'd smacked the ground.

"I paint," he got out, not sure if answering the question would help or not. "Sometimes I make things, sculpt things," he added nervously.

Running his hand down Shiloh's shoulders in something that was strangely like a lover's caress, he ended at the boy's wrists and snapped them quite simply. The bones bent to his whim and although it was a marvelously clean break and they would heal quite fine, he liked to think that they would ache when it rained. Loki wasn't about annihilating Bernadette's possessions, but he wanted to mar them just enough to be remembered.

Shiloh didn't at all like how gentle Loki's touch was, and the second his wrists were snapped, he let out a loud and painful howl. He squirmed as his eyes fell shut, and he tried to get away but his hands were essentially useless. It didn't register that Loki had chosen them based on the answer to the man's question.

"Lewis!" Shiloh cried out, his voice trembling as his eyes stung with tears.

It wasn't as if Lewis was a match for Loki, but it was a gut reaction. Shiloh wanted someone to help him.

Lewis hadn't had time to react before he heard the snap of bone. It made his stomach lurch and horror settle into his limbs. He didn't need Shiloh's plea to act, but it certainly fueled his courage even more. Lunging forward he may as well have been going in slow motion because Loki's reflexes caught him easily and slammed him backward before he even realized it.

Shaking his head to clear out the jolt, Lewis was on his feet again, attacking. Still to no avail. Loki pressed his knees down against Shiloh's ribs, bending a couple until he gave a jerk and snapped them too.

Shiloh wasn't use to pain. Even when he'd been on the streets and gotten a little roughed up, it was nothing like this. Even Elgyn's bite that one time the vampire had fed from him hadn't hurt as much as this did. Shiloh tried to fight the vampire off, his cries bordering on shrill and filled with pain. He didn't hold back at all with letting Loki know he was hurting him, Shiloh wasn't that talented.

"Stop, stop, please..." he sobbed softly, his breaths aching now because of his broken ribs.

It was beyond thrilling. Shiloh was definitely Bernadette's type and he could imagine how badly this would hurt her. He could feel the boy's pain radiating out from him and in turn from the house. "You're like a beacon, kid. A fucking beacon."

He was momentarily distracted and Lewis took that opportunity to lunge again, nails raking down the side of the man's face. It felt satisfying to take some skin with him, even if such shallow wounds healed a few minutes after. Loki let out a surprised cry and slammed Lewis back against the wall again, this time so hard that it knocked him clean out.

Minutes passed that could have been days and Loki didn't hurt Shiloh any further. He just stared down at him, drinking in the way he cried. "See? I stopped. Aren't I kind and gracious?" He could feel Bernie coming.

When Loki slammed Lewis back against the wall and the boy went unconcious, Shiloh's eyes widened in worry. He struggled with the vampire to try and get him off, wanting to get to his friend to make sure he was all right.

"Get off!" he shouted angrily in between his sobs. He lifted his knee and managed to catch Loki in the groin. "Get the fuck off of me!"

Dead or not, that still fucking hurt and he let out a snarl, resisting the urge to just snap the boy's neck. No, that would make him and Bernie even and he was not about to do that. How much pain and destruction she would allow for the death of his sister was unknown to him, but if he killed one of Bernie's favorite companions then he was sure her leniency would end.

That was when he felt the blow on his head. Feel was the wrong word. It came so quickly that it was more like going blank suddenly. He would recover quickly even though the baseball bat that Bernie was holding had crushed the part of his skull where it had hit. She was crying though she wouldn't admit it later.

"Sit up, come on, we're going. Come." She urged Shiloh up so that she could carry him.

When Loki was knocked off of him, Shiloh blinked in surprise. He hadn't even caught sight of Bernie, not really, he'd just seen a flash of something and then there she was. A look of sheer relief flooded him and he let out a little whimper that sounded a lot like a child would make when hurt and upon seeing their mother. He sat up, his face twisting in pain as a few cries escaped him. He moved awkwardly, and thanks to his broken wrists he couldn't really push himself upright the way he normally could. He managed to get up, though.

"Lewis," he sniffled, wanting to make sure Bernie realized the other boy was there, too.

"He'll be all right," she tried to comfort him. It would be easy for her to carry both of them, but she was worried about hurting them. There wasn't much choice though because if she called Elgyn she was certain that he would be difficult to control.

Picking Lewis up as well, she managed to get them out to the car and lay Shiloh on the back seat. Keeping him flat was probably best and instead of driving him to the mansion, she drove them to the small hospital in town. It was the last place she wanted to be, but she couldn't provide the kind of medical care that both of the boys needed.

It hurt, and Shiloh did his best to bite back whimpers of pain. All ready he was thinking that he couldn't paint, couldn't do much of anything, and for how long? He tried to stop himself from crying, but that thought alone sent him right back to it as he was settled into the back seat.

"Is he awake?" he asked Bernie in between quiet little sobs. "He was trying to help me."

Bernie was shaking and part of her was glad Shiloh was unable to sit up and Lewis was unconscious so neither could see her weakness. "He's alive. He'll be all right." She spoke definitively even though she wasn't entirely sure he'd be okay. From what she could sense, he was only knocked out. But Shiloh, she could smell the way the blood was pooling under his skin, and she listened to his strained breathing.

Once she made it to the hospital, she was well composed. It was a whirlwind of activity. People came out to help her and they wheeled Lewis in on a gurney. Shiloh was next and Morris was one of the people on hand, his ambulence parked just ahead of them. They'd been waiting for an emergency and the fact that it had come to them made no difference.

When he saw Bernie he was suspicious that she hadn't been the one to cause the injuries, but then he saw Shiloh and he was sure the woman wouldn't have hurt him. It was hard for him to stay professional, but he steeled his nerves. "Shiloh," he ducked his head into the car and slipped the carrying board underneath him so hey could get him out without bending him. "It's me, Morris. What happened? You're at the hospital now. It'll be okay."

Shiloh knew Morris had been working that night, they'd been texting on and off during the entire evening. Still, it hadn't even occurred to him that Morris would be the one to see him like this whle Bernie drove he and Lewis to the hospital. His eyes had drifted closed along the right, and pain his ribs were causing him made breathing a chore. Every small fraction of an inch burned, and he tried to adjust the way he was sitting, hoping that would help, but all it did was make things worse and he started coughing up a little bit of blood.

When he realized the car had stopped, and someone was talking to him, he opened his eyes and was surprised to see Morris' face. He blinked a few times, obviously a little bit confused, but it didn't take much for his brain to make sense of the situation.

"Morris," he said softly, "Where's Lewis? Is he okay?" he asked, his voice strained.
