Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Audrey's room, for obvious reasons, didn't have any windows. Sometimes (even more than others) it felt like a prison. During the day, she would often lie awake, unable to sleep, staring at those walls, trying to remember what the sun had felt like. Really, she had no other vampires to which to compare herself so she had no idea if that was normal or not.

She'd been a vampire for three years. She remembered vividly the day that the man had finally taken her into the lab. She'd been excited, hoping that he was finally going to do to her what he'd done to her sister. Then they would be the same and everything would go back to making sense. She wouldn't feel so alone. But it hadn't worked out like that. The man's plan had been entirely different and forced Audrey to become something that felt painfully the opposite of what he'd done to her twin.

Languishing in her room, she could feel the sun set and she knew that it was safe to get up and wander about the house. She looked at the calendar on her wall. No appointments with the master of the house, the man responsible for all of this. For awhile, in her early childhood, she remembered thinking of him as her father, but she'd grown out of that.

In some ways it was easier now that Audrey wasn't human. Olivia didn't have to be nearly so careful with her. They were both strong and would live much longer lives than a human would. Audrey did worry that Olivia would age and in the future they would look more and more different from one another. But ultimately, she didn't have to worry about that for awhile. Her brain still measured time like a human.

Relishing in her sister's embrace, she forced a contented sigh. She still had the habit of breathing. "I'm okay," she nodded. It was a ritual, checking each other for distress or injury. It helped calm Audrey down when she felt like she might scream. "I still think he should let me in when you shift. You wouldn't rip me apart. You'd know me. And besides, even if you did attack, I could pin you." She quirked a smile at that last part.

"I wouldn't rip you apart," Olivia said softly. "I'd know you," she agreed, and she firmly believed that. "I think he just likes to keep us apart," she added honestly before she pulled away to go back to fixing some food. "I'm so hungry I can hardly think straight."

It had been a few days since she'd had a real meal. When she was shifted, she just didn't get fed enough. She was a little shakey as she worked to cook the chicken, and she leaned against the edge of the counter.

"I wish we could run away somewhere," she whispered.

She missed her parents, though they were dead - she'd been told so. And she missed her boyfriend, but he'd surely moved on by now.

And than raised them. Then when they were old enough, he infected them both? Though I suppose Olivia's boyfriend could have been another boy in the house?]

Audrey steeled herself against the smell and gently brushed Olivia aside. She would finish cooking. Her sister was clearly not in any condition to do so.

"Can you imagine I actually believed he would turn me into a werewolf? I would have loved to be like you again." Even if it was obviously painful to shift. She'd never seen it, but she'd heard it and heard about it. She poked the chicken around the pan, staring at it, willing herself to somehow magically want it instead of the warm blood pumping through Olivia.

"Where will we go when we finally do get away?" Sometimes she liked to talk optimistically.

"I was hoping he'd do the same thing," Olivia admitted as she allowed herself to be pushed aside so that Audrey could finish making the chicken. "At least I can keep you warm when we watch movies," she offered with a bit of a smile, though it was a sad one.

At the question, she looked away and nibbled at her lower lip with a quiet sigh through her nose. She wasn't sure where they'd go. They'd been kept in the house for as long as she could remember.

"Some place far away from here, some place with snow," she said softly.

Audrey finally plated the chicken, setting it on the table. It was easily twice what the would have eaten as humans. Now Audrey drank from a heated up blood bag or the neck of a drugged person the sorcerer brought for her. She always tried to resist the people, terrified she would hurt or kill them. But it was impossible and she always broke.

The memory made her shudder as she sat down at the table. Leaning her head on her hand, she looked over at Olivia. "Snow. That might be nice. God, i could probably sit right out in it and not feel a thing." That amused her a little.

"Thanks," Olivia said once the chicken was finished.

She fetched a soda from the fridge and went over to sit down at the table with her sister and started to eat, doing her best not to shovel bite after bite into her mouth because of how hungry she was.

"I wonder what I look like as a wolf. Maybe one day you can tell me, he won't," she said softly. "Do you think I'm white or brown or black or grey?"

"Do you think we could meet other vampires? I want to know more about this." The man hadn't really given her much of an educational course on what she was these days. She wanted to know if she'd ever be able to eat normal food again, even taste it. Or if the level of thirst she had would ever go away. She hated having to feed every night. And it had been expressly forbidden to ever feed from Olivia. She didn't understand why, but maybe it had something to do with the fact that she was a werewolf.

She mused over the question of Olivia's wolf appearance. "Maybe you should accidentally shift earlier than he expects. Maybe if I can distract him, his magic will blip out or something. Sometimes I think I can feel it fading." But maybe she was imagining things; she had nothing to which to compare. "And I'll bet you're blonde, or a chocolate brown." She laughed. "I miss chocolate."

"I'd love to mee others like both of us," Olivia said as she paused to sip at her soda. "I don't know - I think we need to be careful," she added, lowering her voice to a whisper. "Sometimes I think he spies on us. And if we tried to get away, and it didn't work, he'd punish one of us just to hurt the other."

He'd used that method before and it definitely had worked like a charm.

Audrey didn't always relish being careful. She provoked him at times, but he had quickly figured out the key to her compliance was to hurt Olivia instead of her. It infuriated her, that he could so quickly figure out their weaknesses, but she supposed it was obvious; she worshiped the ground Olivia walked on.

Falling silent for a few moments, Audrey just nodded. Yes, they had to be careful. After a little while, she decided to change the subject. "I think he's planning on bringing in someone else. He's anxious." Audrey was much more keenly aware of emotions now that she was a vampire--probably some sort of hunting adaptation, if she ever got the chance to hunt.

Olivia had picked up on a few off things, too. It was the predator in her, she supposed. She bit down on her lower lip as she finished her food and then she pushed her plate away, the sound of it scraping against the table louder than she remembered such simple things being.

"You mean like - someone like us, to keep? Or someone like him?" she asked with a worried frown as she looked over at her sister.

Audrey had assumed that it would be someone like them to keep, but at Olivia's suggestion, she reassessed the feelings she was getting from him. A strange need for approval. The anxiety was from wanting to impress. Frowning, she drummed her boney fingers on the table. "I'm not sure now that you've said that. It could be someone like him. I wonder how many sorcerers there are out there."

The idea of more than one of him made her sick.

"I don't even want to know," Olivia sighed as she straightened up a bit in her seat. "Why do you think he keeps us? So many have come and gone."

Her boyfriend, in particular. Thinking about it made her frown, and she pushed thoughts of him out of her head. She supposed secret meetings and longing looks didn't make him her boyfriend, not really - but the connection they'd had, that did.

It was easy for Audrey to to tell that Olivia was thinking about the boy. She hadn't found anyone like that and she didn't really expect to. She'd been more concerned that the boy would somehow replace her. But that hadn't happened and she'd been sad to see him go because it hurt Olivia so much.

"We're the youngest I've ever seen him take in. Maybe he really does think we're like his daughters." She snorted at that notion. He was the worst father ever, if his idea of care was infecting his children with strange diseases.

"Maybe," Olivia agreed as she put her chin in one of her hands, and propped her elbow up onto the table. "But I think it's - more than that. Now that we're getting older," she said as she shifted uncomfortably. "I can smell lust on him, don't you? I don't like it. I think that's why he sent Sebastian away."

The moment he'd changed Sebastian, made the boy like Olivia, they had bonded. More than their keeper had bargained for.

At the mere mention of lust, Audrey's face changed, hardened into something furious. The man had never tried anything with them when they were younger and as she grew up, she'd at least believed that he was only interested in them for the power trip and the experimentation value. But Olivia was right, the older they got, the more that feeling of safety had shifted.

That's when she got an idea. Maybe if she seduced him, made him want her, he would leave Olivia alone. She didn't utter a word about this though, knowing that Olivia wouldn't want her to do it. "I worry sometimes that he sent him away because I stopped hating him and it got boring to watch." She stared down at her foot, twisting it against the tile.

A part of Olivia wondered if their keeper had intended to have her mate with Sebastian. Another experiment, to see if a full blooded wolf could be born. But once he realized how close the two had become, he'd changed his mind and now Sebastian was gone. Possibly dead for all Olivia knew. Thinking about it made her frown, and she lowered her gaze down to the kitchen floor.l

"That's not why," Olivia assured her twin as she reached out to take a hold of one of Audrey's hands. "Do you really think we could find a way out of here?"

Now it was Audrey's turn to be paranoid about the man listening in on them. She looked around as if she could catch a glimpse of anything listening in.

"I do," she said with a firm nod. Sure, the man was magical, powerful, but surely the two of them had some sort of powers that could help them. If only they could find out what those powers were and how to use them. "I don't want to wait around until he decides that it might be a good experiment to kill one of us and see how the other reacts."

Olivia frowned. She hated thinking such things, but it was a possibility. They didn't even know his name, they were to call him Master. It was so degrading.

"I just wish we had someone to help us," she said, shaking her head. "But we can do it. We have to. I want to get out of here and go somewhere, just me and you. Be happy. Do what normal people do - or well, as normal as we can get," she said with a sad laugh.

Audrey gave an indignant little snort. "We can do it on our own, I'm sure." She didn't like the idea of help. What would the person who helped them want? That was the kind of world Audrey believed was on the outside: the same as it was in this house.

She got up and gave a stretch because it was what she always did, though her muscles didn't need it now that she was dead. "Okay, now I'm actually hoping he sends in some poor little human so I can rip their throat out. I'm starved and annoyed." Such were Audrey's mood swings. The hunger made her ruthless.

Olivia frowned. As much as she would love to think they could manage on their own, she was practical. They knew next to nothing about the outside world. They'd been with their captor for as long as she could remember, really. And she didn't know much about herself - what he'd done to her, what he'd done to Audrey. It was going to be tricky.

Just then, the doorbell rang, and Olivia sat up straight. The scent had just hit her, even through a door and down long hallways.

"Not human something else," she frowned.

Audrey was ever fascinated with here sister's sense of smell, though she didn't have much time to marvel over it right now given the news of an arrival.

"Not human? Like either one of us?" She knew better than to get up to answer the door. She waited for the sound of the master opening the door and greeting the newcomer. She listened as hard as she could, trying to get the sense of what kind of visit this was. From as far back as she could remember, no one had ever actually come to the house of their own accord, though she'd heard the man chatting on the phone with what could be considered friends, she supposed.

Tipping her head to the side, Olivia furrowed her brows as she tried her best to listen in on the conversation. Her sense of smell, appetite, and hearing had seemed to change overnight once she'd survived the infection.

"Like him, I think," she frowned.

The last thing they needed was another sorcerer. Great. She sighed and bit down on her lower lip as her brow furrowed together even more.

"Wait, there's two. Two more. Like him."

any storyline you have for Andrew's background :D]

"Two?" Audrey said with alarm. What was this, some sort of evil person party? "They better be playing poker or something and it better not have anything to do with us." She folded her arms in front of her chest and backed up toward the back door. Not like it was unlocked, but somehow it made her feel better being close to a psuedo-exit.

The master, Alex was his name though he had never told the girls that, welcomed his guests with a flourish. He recognized Andrew and his father as like minded individuals, so he had no qualms about showing off his two little pet projects. He'd also wanted to speak to Andrew's father about acquiring a few other rarities. Fae, mostly. Difficult little buggers to get and it was impossible to make your own.

Olivia wasn't sure what to think or how to feel. She was a bit freaked out, but she didn't want to show it and she got to her feet to go stand beside Audrey so that she could take a hold of her hand.

Andrew wasn't entirely sure why his father had wanted him to come along to what seemed like a simple business venture. While his father did deal with very rare magical collectibles, it was usually jewelery or books, or other trinkets. Honestly the only reason why Andrew had been able to get Joshua was because of who had him - his father wanted a better life for the kid and he had a feeling Andrew and Joshua would become something more than what Andrew even realized at the time.

He was quiet as they stepped inside the house, and Andrew kept his hands tucked into the pockets of his black peacoat. His head was dipped down, nose hidden away behind his scarf from the cold, but once he was inside he pushed it aside and drew in a quiet breath. Right away he could tell that there were other powerful beings in the house, and he tipped his head to the side and furrowed his brows a bit as he tried to figure out who - what, they were.

Alex always had the tendency to assume to much when it came to other sorcerers. If he'd associated with, or even seen, another sorcerer at a black market event, he figured that they were the sort of man who viewed all other creatures (humanoid or no) to be inferior.

"That little fairy stone you sold me a few years back made me think to call you," he began. Alex was short and had to straighten his spine to feel adequate around Andrew and his father. His narrow features tightened at the inconvenience and then relaxed again. "I've been making my own little collection of rare spell ingredients and while it's easy to create some of the nastier beings of the supernatural world, it's impossible to make a fae."

During his preamble, he ushered them into the kitchen and stopped to present the twins. "Vampire, werewolf," he pointed without saying their names. "All my own work, my own strains of the--what would you call it--virus."
