There are a handful of passages in what the researcher could find of the ancient tongue. Some of the symbols make sense now, and stop seeming to twist and defy the eye so much. However, the journal does explicitly state that he does not know the prayer needed to put Cthulu to sleep, or the passwords - he's never been to the temple after all. They're on their own, but have the apparent keys, if they can figure out the language.
