Kayla had been watching with interest from a safely hidden spot, but something was amiss. Her Father was not destroying these fools. Why? She didn't have much time to ponder the thought; when Zod yelled for her to run Kayla turned to do as he had commanded, not wanting to disobey him. She had gotten just outside the building when she stopped.
Her life spent as a spoiled child had never given Kayla any need or reason to think quickly or critically. She wasn't stupid, but she was very disinclined to put forth effort when she didn't have to. This is why it took her a moment to figure it out. Zod wasn't destroying the intruders because he couldn't. He was weak, physically. That's what he meant when he said Cadmus had used their kind up. Horrified and furious, Kayla turned and rushed back, not away from the scuffle, but towards it.
"LEAVE HIM ALONE!"
