The question surprised him more than anything. He'd never truly considered what his life would be like without the League of Assassins. Not many assassins did.
Usually, those who left the League ended up dead in short order. If Morgaine was still alive, he could just give the League to her and walk away.
"If Morgaine was still alive, then yes, we could. Or James. James would not do us harm. But if my cousin Henry became the Demon's Head, he would hound us to the ends of the Earth until he was sure I wouldn't take it back." Damien says.
"And then I would have to kill him and reassert myself again, just to keep us safe. I guess, in the end, that the answer is no." Damien says quietly.
"I wish it were otherwise, Beloved."
