Something Familiar (Cerdian).
J'anna had made contact in one form or another with nearly everyone she was close to since her ressurrection. There were three exceptions to that: her mother, her father, and Cerdian. She couldn't face her parents, not yet, but Cerdian was another story. He'd been turned a monster, too. Even then she'd put it off as long as possible, not out of dread but out of fear. J'anna wasn't sure what she was afraid of exactly, but the whole world seemed scarier in ways she couldn't express since she'd died. When she had her third panic attack in the university library in as many hours she realized that she needed to reach out to the only person she trusted who would actually understand where she'd been.

Ditching school early she waited for Cerdian and their usual burger and shakes place, a strawberry milkshake before her. It wasn't for her, though. It was for him.

Cerdian shows up, having walked from the beach to the burger joint in Star City. It felt odd to him that so much of his life was tied to this city, but it was nice to see J'anna.

After the way he ran out on Lian the other day, he didn't think she'd want to see him again.

"J'anna, put the milkshake down. Please tell me it's not that bad yet." Cerdian says, a little worried when he sees J'anna with the milkshake.

	"It's actually for you. We made a promise once that once we both had died we'd meet up somewhere for strawberry milkshakes." She pauses. "However, I'm driving one of Tim's cars and I'm certain he wouldn't appreciate me totalling it because I'm under the influence of dairy so...you drink. I'll watch." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	"How is Tim, anyway?" Cerdian asks, sitting down and taking the milkshake. Milkshakes are one of his secret loves. Well, not really so secret, because J'anna and Lian know...but still. "Tim's thrilled that I'm not a pile of ash in what was once our apartment building. It was difficult to get him to stop hugging me for a few days, though I am not complaining. I'm...I'm personally kind of godawful right now, though. How about you?"

One thing she is very grateful for is that they, unlike some stories she's heard from the returned-to-the-living, didn't meet up with Cerdian as a zombie for tag-team terrorizing. That is a blessing.

"I'm...pretty crappy. I killed, in order, my mother, most of Atlantis, Lian's father and a lot of other people who didn't deserve it. Then, I tried to drop a tidal wave on Star City and nearly succeeded." Cerdian says grimly.

"Oh, I also tried to kill Lian and her kids, and nearly succeeded in killing the man who had a bullet put in my head. The same man that stopped me from dropping a tidal wave on Star City. Then, I came back to my father and King Orin trying to marry me off to Cait." Cerdian says.

"You can imagine how /that/ went down." Cerdian tells her.

"From what I heard, they did come back. A lot of things about that time are still a bit fuzzy to me. The things I do remember seem like they happened to someone else." Cerdian says.

"Now, things are just...weird." Cerdian says. "Lian is having children and my father is trying to marry me off to bolster his standing.

You really need to make up with your dad and be normal for the rest of us, J'anna." Cerdian says.

"I'm a green, terrifying alien with issues. I don't think it's possible for me to be normal, Cerdian. I also have a tail. Really, normal never even stopped by my crib as a baby. I'm sorry, but you're stuck with a band of freaks," she says.

"You need me to talk to your dad about why marrying you off at random for status is a bad idea? I may actually have a powerpoint for this."

"Hey, your dad totally listens to me. It freaks him out that I can do that whole shapeshifty thing so he usually heeds me. Given the other friend examples in your life, I usually seem to be the reasonable one. J'anna J'onnz: designated driver for everyone's life since the womb."

She smiles a little, but it's weak.

"Tim's offered to go with me, but I almost don't want to take him up on it. He shouldn't have to sit through the type of dysfunction that is my family. Why he hasn't run screaming I will never understand."

"His actions tell me more or less everything that I need to know. The way he looks at me when he comes home at night, the way he puts things in the fridge when he unloads the groceries because he knows what I like. He also occaisionally talks in his sleep," she smiles.

"I know you well enough to know there is a reason you're asking me these things, Cerdian, and it has nothing to do with whether or not you approve of Tim. What's going on? And remember if you lie, I'll know with my Martian ways."

"Which is why...I may not be coming back to the surface very often after this. Perhaps it's better that I simply focus on Atlantis and rebuilding the damage I helped cause." he muses.

Doesn't Tim deserve someone who is focused on him completely? If he were having this issue with /his/ father, what would you tell him?" Cerdian asks.
