However... our current situation has left us vulnerable.... and there is the princess' happiness to be considered.
As such, when Mera agreed to endorse this possibility, I told her what I'll tell you now. I cannot fly in the face of the council's decrees, or try and gain special favors for my family... as such, I cannot support this resolution... but I won't oppose it either. If the council agrees to allow the princess to marry as she will, I'll step aside."
As reasonable as he's going to get.
