Florian pulled his jacket tighter around himself and ducked his head as he stepped out of the back of the grocery store. He had two hours before the second shift he had asked to pick up started. His mother was fine for the moment. At this point in the day she'd still be surrounded with her art students and the other teachers would look out for her. Which meant he could take these two hours for himself and go down to the community pool.

He took the back alleys and side streets avoiding people when he could. He'd been having visions whenever he made contact with others. Terrifying things from the depths of their souls: drowning, fires, wild animals, nameless shapes in the dark, all filled with insane terror. He hated it.

The worst was his own reflection he glimpsed sometimes out of the corner of his eye. Sharp teeth, yellow skin and eyes...It only moved to prove to him that something was wrong with his new found ability.

With a glance over his shoulder he slipped into the back door of the community center and smiled when he saw that it was empty.
