Avia was not, by nature, a materialistic girl. She enjoyed a comfortable lifestyle, certainly, but far more of her money went to charitable causes than to personal possessions. Though she was not of Earth, Christmas was a holiday she really enjoyed--when enjoyed properly, though the celebration of family and giving, that is.

For the most part, her gifts took the form of donations in the names of her friends to various charitable causes.

For Michael, it was to a cause that supported offered scholarships to inner city students wanting to be architects.

For Maria, it was to a cause that aided in retraining for ex-cons.

For Jon, it was to a scholarship foundation for poor farm kids.

For Corinna, it was to a foundation that worked to provide medical care and equipment to kids with disabilities.

For Alina, it was to an organization for building better schools in Mexico.

For Petra, it was to a "save the polar bears" foundation.

For Dinah, one that helped get technology into inner city schools.

For Riley, one that helped get sports equipment into the same.

And for Cindy, it was to an organization that helped fund start-up loans to immigrants wanting to start a business.

And then there was Will. Not having had a true non-fling boyfriend for Christmas before, she was at something of a loss as to what to do. She'd censored her own idea of "threesome." She'd done that for a former boytoy's birthday anyway, and was reasonably sure Will wouldn't really enjoy it.

She'd almost gone with some boudiour photography, but decided at the last minute she'd wanted something that wouldn't make him blush to death around anyone else if they asked what she'd gotten him.

...Relationships were hard.

Finally, she'd settled on a leather jacket she'd thought would look great on him, a photo album of pictures from their first date (having friends with access to a time machine was a blessing), and a donation to an organization that helped kids with speech issues.
